[ Signy has paid the confetti and pudding no mind at all, and if the transportation was jarring, she’s still relieved to be somewhere else, with people around. With a view she can take in and maybe start to do something with. Her posture is pure military commander, and if she’s wearing rather and repaired clothes, there’s a Captain’s patch on her jacket. She looks mid thirties, other than her eyes and the silver-gray of her hair. She should really do something about that, since Norway isn’t part of Earth Company any longer. Then again, she’s not part of Norway at the moment.]

This is Signy Mallory. Formerly Captain of the Norway in the Merchanter’s Alliance. If there’s anyone here from Union or Mazian’s fleet, I’m sure we can find a way to get along.

[ It hurts to say ‘former’ more than she expected. Damn her pride, and, too, her worry for her crew. Di can handle it, of course, but until she believes why she’s been taken, there could easily be some greater threat that her abduction is a part of. ]

I have to say, from what I’ve seen of this fleet so far…I’m still waiting to be impressed.

I’m given to understand that the Atroma are controlling us. What resistance attempts have been made to date?

What other active threats are there?

I'm starting to think Atroma has a thing for recruiting ship captains.

[Ehem...pardon the introduction and the awkward throat clear and smile that follows]

But to answer one of your questions, I've talked to a few people here and there that are interested in getting out of here, but there's no formal resistance yet. I've been trying to focus on gathering intel for the last several months, and I'm not the only one. It's all we really can do, for now.

If they're in it for the entertainment of conflicting methods and opinions, I can kind of follow their thinking, if not agree with it.

I don't know that I agree that it's all we can do. This fleet seems to entirely lack any real formal structure. Even if it's opt in, there have to be others than myself who would prefer that, even if it includes putting oneself under another's command.

Yeah...I don't know. It's not that easy. Yeah, there's at least a few of us who are used to that structure, but we're all from different chains of command. Different organizations with different goals. And like I said, a lot of former captains. People who are used to being the one in charge. It'll take more than just throwing your hat in the ring for people to follow you. They need to be given a reason.

[As if to soften the harshness of those words, though, he rolls his shoulder in a slight shrug]

But, that said, I wouldn't be opposed to a more cohesive effort.

[ Signy offers him a half-smile. ]

I wasn't necessarily proposing myself. I was a freighter pilot and rider captain long before I was a ship captain. I can take orders, as long as they make sense.

But I've also dealt with having people in my service who weren't necessarily there by choice. At the end of the day we still had to make a crew.

True, but you have one now, for better or worse.

I'd rather have one that believed in orders and rules, even if I weren't the one making them.

I get the feeling. The first few weeks here were difficult because I had no orders to follow, no routine, no one obviously in charge. And I can't just blame that on a ship full of civilians, because pilot or not, we go where the Marsiva goes.

Routine can be established, and we’ll have a greater chance of enforcing our will against our captors if we have a common will.

[ That’s obvious, and Signy’s not down with accepting any sort of helplessness around her own situation. ]
