MINGLE - Blood Drive!

Who: Anyone Participating in the Blood Drive!
Broadcast:
Action: Open to All!
When: BACKDATED TO LAST SUNDAY, March 15th

[Hey remember that whole Blood Donation network post that came up a few days ago? Well it's time for the actual blood drive! On the network, there will a message posted reminding everyone of the blood drive located on the SS Blue Fish - which is parked in a volcano in Mor. You know the volcano.]

[If your character is Donating, please fill out this form here! ]

[If your character is Volunteering - they'll have been sent a message asked to arrive before the blood drive start to set up and go over procedures. Only Volunteers with Lab Assistant Augment or a Medical background will be helping with drawing blood! Volunteers without that (or lab assistants not interested in drawing blood) can be assisting with greeting people, helping people with paperwork, checking on donor's well-being, handling payments, or manning the cookie table. There's lots to do!]

[Be warned that since it's a blood drive, sections of this post will Contain Content with Blood and Needles. If that stuff makes you uneasy and you wish to handwave your character's involvement with the blood drive- that's totally fine! Otherwise go, have some fun full of blood and cookies!]

I'd be happy to. About three hundred years ago, humanity made our first contact with a species from another planet. Or at least, first known contact. That species was the Vulcans, who had been traveling the stars long before we even managed to get a spacecraft into orbit.

[She smiles ruefully.]

Admittedly, we did not get along so well at first. Vulcans value logic above all else, and they seek to purge themselves of all emotions. If you have spent any time around humans, you know we are not always exactly the most ... rational of species. I'm sure you can imagine some of the conflicts that arose. Still, they genuinely wanted to help us, unpredictable emotions and all. Together, along with some other species who shared similar goals to ours, we formed an interstellar Republic called The United Federation of Planets.

Unless a great deal has changed or the relation is very distant, I doubt there is much connection between us and these Vulcans. The Eldar are no more rational then Men. [A little scoff] At times I wonder if we are not worse.

But I did not realize that you had experience with space travel. This is all so new and strange to me. You must find it much less so.

They do not like to talk about it, but deep in their species' past, the Vulcans were a volatile race. The adherence to logic isn't an inherent trait of theirs, it is part of a philosophy they've developed over thousands of years. And even humans and Vulcans share a common genetic ancestry, billions of years ago. Things may have just developed differently in your universe.

And yes, this is not so different from my life at home.

[She eyes the needle.]

Well, we have mostly moved beyond needing needles and having to draw blood in my time. Fortunately, I am trained in such things, in case of an emergency. Though, I doubt being kidnapped to be put on a television show is exactly what my professors had in mind.

Strange are the paths that fate has us take, are they not? You find yourself here, making do with what you regard as antiquated medicine and I am here, astounded by the advances that I see.

My sister is a healer, you know. She would be delighted by all this; you would hear no end to her questions.

Strange indeed. Though I'm sure your sister could teach me a thing or two... the old methods still have value.

[She finishes drawing his blood, unties the tourniquet, and cleans and dresses the injection site.]

There! You're all done! A little dizziness is normal, so I'd like you to stick around for a half hour or so, just in case. Make sure to drink plenty of water for the next few days and if you experience any problems, call me right away.

I will. [He stands and gives a slight bow.] You have my thanks for your care, Dr. Crusher.
