When: Backdated a couple days ago - before the new planet mingle

[The feed opens up to one of the larger, empty rooms in the Iskaulit. There's a few boxes stacked around, but otherwise the room is starkly empty. Sokka grins, raising his arms in the middle of the room. In the background, Maglor seems to be moving stuff out of boxes.]

So, hey guys! Me and Maglor have decided it'd be a great idea to build a forge on the Iskaulit. So many people don't have a clue what they're doing with guns, we figured giving them a chance to have weapons more suited to their time period might help them out a little.

Plus, you know, Atroma can suck it with taking our weapons away from us. We'll just make new ones.

ANYhoo, it's obviously gonna be a while before it gets set up, but anyone willing to come help build it, or gather materials, that kind of thing would be really appreciated. We'll put your names on a little plaque or something. Hopefully, we'll get something awesome out of this.

I was. [ Something flashes through his eyes, there and gone again, a grief too deep for words ]

I have been many things in my time. Captain and Commander, Prince and Warrior and King-Regent. None of those matter, any longer. I am only a simple bard, now.

[evervigilante]

[ Yuri notices, but says nothing to that effect. ]

Most nobles don't learn the art of the blacksmith. Hence why I asked.

[ Maglor chuckes softly at that ]

Oh, Father might have been haryon - I think the term would translate as...Crown Prince?- he was an inventor amd...I think nowadays you would say scientist, although our term is loremaster - first and foremost. To take him from the forge would be unthinkable. He insisted all of us learnt at least the basics in our turn.

But even my cousins turned their hand to trades that interested them. After all, none of us ever expected to inherit our parents' positions!

Sounds unorthodox, but fun.

[ Certainly more freedom than Estelle had ever been accustomed to. ]

It was. [ Maglor smiles in wistful rememberence ] Those were good days, when we could do as we pleased and explore our skills without fear or shadow. We all found our niches, for a time.

[evervigilante]

[ And then everything changed when the fire nation attacked. ]

At least you had that. Not everyone does.

[bythewaves]

[ Well technically in this case he IS the fire nation, but yeah ]

I know - we are fortunate indeed compared to others! I just miss it, sometimes. What of yourself?

[evervigilante]

I'd probably be the "others" category. I was poor and an orphan. Never a good combination.

[ Not that his childhood was bad but it was rough around the edges. ]

[bythewaves]

I am sorry. [ Maglor says softly ] That is no easy thing to bear, and I know it is often worse in the villages of Men.

[evervigilante]

You're making it sound way more dramatic than it actually is.

[bythewaves]

Am I? [ A small wry smile ] Forgive me - my brothers have oftentimes said I am apt to being a little overdramatic at times. But I have seen how hard it can be, and that is always a grief.

[evervigilante]

Just because things were hard doesn't make it a cause for grief.

[ And Yuri would be the last person to make his circumstances seem like a tragedy. ]

[bythewaves]

I have always felt it is when children especially are involved - they have so little with which to defend themselves with.

[evervigilante]

You're not wrong. But when everyone is in the same boat, people tend to be more helpful.

[ The Lower Quarter was one big family, blood relations or not. ]

[bythewaves]

That much is true, and I am glad that it was so with you! You seem to have done well for yourself, however.

[evervigilante]

I've gotten by all right.

It helps that I'm not alone.

[bythewaves]

For that I am glad - to be alone is a cruel fate indeed.

[evervigilante]

[ Hm. ]

Yeah. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

[bythewaves]

Nor I. [ He says softly ] Nor I.

[evervigilante]

Those childhood memories made it clear that you're not, though.

[bythewaves]

Not then. [ He smiles a little sad, a little wistful ]

Not for a long time. But I have known that grief, and I would wish it on none.

[evervigilante]

Isn't that a little simplistic?

[ He shrugs. ]

If no one knew grief, how would we know what we had was true happiness? What would make us fight for it?

[bythewaves]

It is, but there is grief, and there is grief, and some things I would not wish on any.

[evervigilante]

Maybe instead of wishing, there are other ways to deal with it.

[ Wishing seems . . . hopeless. ]

[bythewaves]

Maybe, but sometimes wishes are all we have.
