[ the comm seems to be haphazardly leaning against something, and the image you get is crooked. a sleeping man, who almost instantly awakes with a start. no scream, mercifully, he's quite over screamer videos, and besides, it wouldn't really be that surprising under the circumstances, now, would it? his eyes dart around the room, his feet flying off the cot and touching the ground. the moment he speaks, his accent undeniably and unapologetically identifies him as an englishman. ]

Not again - [ he groans, looking around him. the first time he was knocked out and kidnapped happened because he was foolish, he trusted a friend when clearly he had overestimated the bond, bloody spies, he's had his fill of bloody spies. but this time - he has no idea what happened. one minute, he's in a pod, sailing to freedom and the next - he's in this bed. he must not have deactivated something. do they have a blasted tracker beam on these things? so paranoid! ] Oi, @therealshield, you forgot to paint your eagle - I'm gonna have to deduct your merits - [ no answer. the room really doesn't seem like anywhere his previous captors kept him in, and that's rarely a coincidence. he gets up, and the comm seems to slip off whatever it was leaning against and end up in a new position, one that shows the back of the man, as he walks towards a window. ] ...you have got to be joking.

[ and a moment later ] Bloody aliens!

[ the man comes in and out of the frame, as he's clearly examining his surroundings, before he heads back to check on what he's got by his cot, and notices the comm. picking it up, you now get a close up of his face - ] Little red light - you're either going to explode or - [ that sure looks like a camera, doesn't it? he holds it directly in front of his face. ]

Take me to your leader.

[ the real shield? is that something different than the one he knows? does it even have anything to go with the shield that fitz is a part of? is he just reading too much into this? wishful thinking, maybe?

either way, it gets fitz's attention ]

It's just a communication device, actually. Doesn't explode. At least I haven't heard of it happening yet.

[ he goes quiet for a minute to think about that ]

No, no I haven't heard of anything like that yet. Probably not what the audience wants to see anyway. Us going- [ he makes a gesture with his hands to signify an explosion ]

[ hunter's face lights up at that familiar face. ]

Fitz! Are you a sight for sore eyes, mate - who else they nab? [ when dealing with these abductions, subtlety is always key! ]

[ hunter looks so pleased with the situation! in exchange for that happiness, he gets... confusion and a little skepticism. sorry ]

I- Do I know you? [ how do you know him? is this real shield that he was talking about the one that fitz is a part of?

should he be happy about this or concerned? ]

[ watch every bit of that happy fall away. ]

-- Fitz. It's me. Don't tell me they bloody brainwash you here as well I've had it up to - [ there's a moment's pause here because is there really anything higher than here to say when here is space? ] HERE with brainwashing. [ agent 33 is all the brainwashing he needs in his life, it's more than enough. and this is fitz, he can't just empty a clip into his head, he actually likes him! ]

[ that answer might be a little better if fitz had any idea at all who 'me' was. unfortunately that isn't the case. he leans toward the device, hoping getting closer might allow him to see something about the new guy that maybe he missed, something that might make him more recognizable. alas ]

They don't brainwash people here. [ he says as though he would know if they did ]

Um, what did you mean when you said @therealshield? [ maybe this can help to clear a few things up, even though he's a little afraid to ask. he's not entirely sure he wants to know the answer ]

[ how can you forget that face, fitz, look at it! it's chiseled and handsome!

he blinks at that declaration. oh fitz, buddy. he really doesn't want to be the one to burst your bubble, but better he do it than face the betrayal when it literally hits you across the head, knocks you out, shoves you in the trunk, and chains you to a sink. ]

I'd wager they do, you don't just forget your plane saving partner. Who do you remember? Mack? Skye? [ should he mention simmons? things always go insta-awkard when simmons is brought up, maybe not. but then, if he remembers anyone it's surely her. ] Coulson? [ going to be paying extra close attention to his reaction to that one, because while he's fairly certain that fitz is loyal to the man - better safe than sorry. ]

[ look, it's a nice face but not one that fitz knows. SORRY! ]

We saved a plane together? [ a shot in the dark here but- ] The bus? [ though why would he need you, strange man, to help him with the plane when simmons exists? or if that option isn't available, why couldn't he just do it himself?

his expression doesn't really change when the name mack comes up. but skye? coulson? there's definitely a lot of recognition there. he also looks rather relieved to hear those names, someone who knows them.

but at the same time, he's a little skeptical because what if this is some kind of trick? basically, please don't be hydra, strange man ]

I don't think I know anyone named Mack.

[ that is one hell of a good shot, fitz, have you been training? ] The bus, yes! [ he'll take any crumb of recognition here, okay. also, rude, you clearly needed him for his mechanical engineering genius, gosh!

he's not sure if fitz forgetting mack is a relief or a concern - on the one hand, it does make him feel a little better about having been forgotten, on the other hand if he forgot mack what does it say about what's going on? probably nothing good. ]

Not the worst memory gap to have at the moment, I'd trade you on that. [ does he have some sort of short term memory problem? it makes sense for his condition to be aggravated by the stress of this place, right? that - that's not good, though. ] My name is Lance Hunter, we work together.

[ well it is the only plane that he really spends an extended amount of time of. and considering they call it the bus, it's not like he'd be giving anything away if his guess was wrong! also how dare! the only mechanical engineering genius that fitz needs is his own! okay sometimes he needs help... ]

Memory Gap? [ a pause and his brows furrow as he takes that into consideration. interesting idea, strange man! ] Lance Hunter. We work together...

[ he trails off there and there's an extended silence, as though he's forgotten that he was in the middle of a conversation with someone. but then he snaps his fingers as he recalls something he and peggy spoke of. this may not be what's happening in this case, but it's a good place to start, right? ]

I don't think I know you yet.

[ there's no shame in accepting a helping hand from your bud, fitz, and he definitely gives credit where credit is due - his hands know their shit, but his head not as much, he needs fitz.

hunter watches him work it out with growing concern. oh pal, what have they done to you? ]

No, you definitely know me - we're mates, Fitz, beers and laughs and saving lives, no bells ringing at all? [ he's not really catching on to your thinking here, fitz, you have to be a little blunter. ]

[ oh there is certainly no shame in getting help where it's needed! it's just that fitz's hands and his head tend to know what they're doing and the idea of a situation where that's not the case is just bothersome okay ]

No, yeah that's fine. [ he waves a hand, mostly dismissing what hunter is saying ] What I'm saying is that I don't know you, but I will. More than here, I mean. We're already getting to know each other here so that's obvious. What I mean is that you're from my future, I'm from your past.

People can come here from the same world, but different times. Whoever brings us here, the timeline doesn't exactly matter to them.

[ at least that could be what's going on here ]

...time travel.

[ you're telling him time travel is real and they're currently engaging it - either he went back to the past or fitz catapulted into the future, is that it? he's not sure which is the more exhausting possibility - that fitz is right or that fitz is wrong. but how often is fitz wrong about these things? he's come to rely on his peculiar little sciencey ways. ]

Come on, Fitz, stop pissing around, you're having a laugh at me, is that it? [ he's literally in space and still finds this hard to swallow. there has to be a limit to how many impossible things happen to one man over the course of an hour, okay! ]

Um, yeah. Basically.

[ that's the most simplistic way to put it. and it's less one of them going forward to the other moving backward, and more like this is some sort of central hub where people are drawn to! ]

No, no it's not like that. If you know me like you say you do, then trust me. I don't know you because I haven't met you yet. Not at home.

People are brought here from all different times and worlds.

[ well, that's troubling, but apparently it's just that sort of day as he's provided another bit of information. ]

Can you hook us up with a secure line? [ there's a difference between a dislike for secrets among friends and chatting on a public frequency. ]

[ in his haste to speak with someone who might know shield, someone who he might have some sort of actual connection to (even if the connection is one fitz hasn't experienced yet), he didn't even consider the idea of a secure line. that was sort of a bit of an oversight ]

Not as secure as maybe I'd like but yeah. I need your frequency, then I can set it up.

[ he recites his frequency again with disturbing ease. that doesn't feel secure at all, but then, nothing will be while they're using tech provided them by - he's gonna go ahead and call them hydra productions. ]

[ it's definitely not as secure as he'd like, or not as secure as something he would provide, himself, were he still at home. alas. of course with the whole apparently reality television aspect of this whole thing, it's likely nothing is private or secure ]

I'm not sure I would call this particularly secure, but it's the best I can do with what they give me.

[ and that's frustrating ]

So, can you tell me the last thing you remember from before you were brought here?

Shouldn't it be the other way around? [ what with fitz being from the past, and all. anything hunter would say would go over his head. (of course, anything fitz would say would have the same effect on hunter since while it took them a while to warm up to each other they definitely met when he became affiliated with shield). ]

[ yes, it probably should be the other way around, but given what fitz remembers from home, he's spent a lot of time worrying about his future while here. his future and the future of his friends. the future of shield. so while any events hunter may tell him about would be meaningless to him, but there are some things he wants to hear about.

while peggy gave him some insight into things that would eventually happen, hunter is apparently actually in fitz's future. he would be able to tell him how the team is doing ]

After Project Insight crashed into the Triskelion. After the resurfacing of the Winter Soldier and his fight with Captain America. [ something that even someone who wasn't a part of shield at the time would know about ]

Hydra, um- Hydra just revealed themselves to be a part of SHIELD. They were a part of SHIELD the whole time and we didn't even realize. No one did. A man that Coulson thought he knew was with them, got his men to turn on good, loyal members of SHIELD. They didn't deserve that. They were good people who weren't even given a chance. They were killed in cold blood.

He was prepared to kill Coulson and May, to recruit me to Hydra... [ you asked, hunter! ]

[ oh fitz, why is your shoulder too far away for a squeeze.

something about the way he phrases it strikes him as odd, though. a man that coulson thought he knew? is he talking about garrett? and not ward?

son of a bitch don't tell him he has to break that news as well. ]

Coulson and May are fine, mate, they'll outlive the cockroaches. And as far as I know you're on our side - and in your case I would be gobsmacked if I'm wrong. [ brilliant guy, fitz, but not a mastermind liar. it's one of his favorite things about him. ]

[ soon hunter. once hunter is off the marsiva, they can meet in person and be not too far away!

yes, he's talking about garrett. garrett was supposed to have been loyal to shield, his men as well. and yet. ward, however. ward is a good person. he would never betray them like garrett did. could never.

fitz shakes his head ] Of course I am. I wouldn't betray Coulson. I couldn't betray Coulson.

You mentioned Skye. Is she okay too? [ he pauses, almost afraid of asking the next question, for fear of the answer he might get ] What about Simmons?

[ oh fitz. they should probably hold off on that conversation until they're at least able to speak in person - hunter really has no way to convince fitz to believe him, a stranger, over ward - a teammate and exceptional liar. but at the same he can't let fitz walk around believing that should the guy show up he would be on his side, and - he just cannot and will not pretend that ward is anything but what he is. ]

Simmons is fine. [ well, fine is probably an exaggerated term, he didn't know her before but she's been through the ringer. they all have.

and skye... ] Skye has superpowers now.

[ it might be a little easier for hunter to convince fitz of the truth when ignoring the things that fitz doesn't want to hear is as easy as shutting off the device the moment hunter starts to say things about the people fitz thinks of as friends. given what he saw between garrett and coulson, fitz should believe hunter. but he knows the people he works with, lives with, sees everyday. they're good people, good shield agents. they're his friends.

he just breathes a sigh of relief when hunter says that simmons is fine. he'd prefer better than fine, but given what was going on at home when fitz was taken from there, and given what's likely still going on, he'll take fine ]

Skye has... What? That's a little ridiculous.

[ that's the thing about spies, they can convince you of anything, of the deepest of friendships, the truest of loves - and then turn around and shoot you in the face. or, drop you in the ocean, stuff you in the trunk. ]

It's a lot ridiculous, actually, but there's not a lot of room for sense once you throw aliens into the mix, I'm afraid.

[ hence his initial declaration of bloody aliens. he's already so done with them. there are not enough drinks in the world for the amount of done he feels. ]

[ see, that part is sort of an issue for fitz. even though he works with spies, knows how things work with them, he still trusts them more than maybe he should. and it's not like he can tell when someone is lying to him. he wasn't really trained for that sort of thing. he just sort of assumes, or hopes, that they won't ]

How is there any connection between Skye having powers now, and aliens? [ that's not skepticism. that's genuine curiosity right there ]
