Hey I've got a question:

Who else has the personnel augment?
What do you do with it?
Are we really meant to act like counsellors?
Do you act as your ship's therapists?
Or do you just really like the nice room you get?
What do you do with the nice room?
I turned mine into a blanket fort.
Should I post a sign saying THE DOCTOR IS |IN|

[Actually, it hasn't been a blanket fort in months now, but psh. IT IS IN SPIRIT, OKAY.]

This is obviously a very important and singular question.
Less important: do you know anything about souls?  Know any soul magic?

[Katie shakes that hand, her own a mite cold still from being at the fox park.]

You too! I've always liked meeting new people. [As for a drink--] Just a beer, I think.

So, how long have you been here?

[hollystrike]

A couple of months now, I think. Though to be fair, it's my second time. I was much younger the first time round. What about you?

Wait, really?

Over a year... 15 months?

[hollystrike]

[Whistles.] A very long time. Hopefully I won't end up putting that much time in myself.

I turned up here a while ago as a little girl, actually. Then I went home and forgot all about the Fleet until I came back.

[takingkarabusiness]

I mean, I've remembered more since I got here, but I didn't know that could happen.

How do you feel about it? I guess you don't remember your first "tour".

[hollystrike]

I don't mind. I was overdue for a vacation, and there's a stack of paperwork with my name on it at the office. [She grins impishly.]

I do remember bits and pieces of being here before, but mostly I'm still trying to put names to faces. I'm getting better.

I'm sure no one will blame you for it.

I went into a coma and woke up with like a ton of new memories not too long ago. It's really disorienting.

[hollystrike]

I don't think they do. Though they have a hard time treating me like a full-fledged adult, sometimes. One of the bartenders here still looks at me oddly when I order.

I've seen those comas. It must be rather difficult to come back to find time hasn't passed here. Were you asleep long?

Not the longest I've ever been asleep. About a month?

[Katie peers curiously at Kara over her glass.]

...what's the longest you've been asleep?

Um...

24 years?

[hollystrike]

[...blink. Well, then.]

That's... longer than I've ever managed. Deliberately?

The stasis was deliberate, but the length of time was not.

[hollystrike]

Oh, I see. [That sounds like far future sci-fi sort of stuff, but that's nothing unusual in Katie's wheelhouse.] What sort of stasis was it? Travelling long distances? Being frozen until someone made a cure for some rare disease? Were you running away from aliens?

[takingkarabusiness]

Traveling long distances. I'm the alien? But my planet was dying so my parents sent me to Earth to keep me safe.

[hollystrike]

[Well, that sounds a familiar story. Her eyebrows tick up.] By yourself...?

[takingkarabusiness]

My cousin was sent away, too, but in his own pod. He didn't get caught up like I did, though, and made it to Earth on schedule.

[hollystrike]

[There's a portion of Katie that wants to protest that's not what she meant; what parents send a girl off on her own when the whole planet is dying? Why didn't they go with her? But my cousin-- that makes the rest of the story click into place.]

I don't suppose he got a job as a reporter as he grew up.

Oh, so you've heard of him?

[hollystrike]

[UM. She leans back in her chair, taking in Kara's appearance all over again. Well, then. This is sort of like meeting Han Solo and all the Jedi while they were here.]

You could say that. He writes some excellent stories. Among other things. Is he here as well?

[takingkarabusiness]

No, he's not. Which is too bad.

I'm going to assume this is a multiverse thing, though, because otherwise we might have to be concerned with you knowing which stories he writes and also that he's an alien from another planet.

[hollystrike]

[Katie is actually and visibly startled by that casual response-- it's as far as she was going to take it, but then the multiverse is a thing, isn't it?

After a moment of startled blinking, though, she gives a rueful little chuckle.]

It's definitely a multiverse thing. But even if it weren't, I'm rather a big fan of people getting to keep their secret identities.

Okay, good. I mean, I figure that's the case most of the time here, but you can't be too careful. You do remind me of a friend of mine, so it's worth checking.

[hollystrike]

Do I? [She perks up with curiosity.] I hope she's a good friend, then.
