[ the bunk itself might be unfamiliar, but waking in an unfamiliar place isn't - not with as much time as she'd spent trying to manage herself in paradisa, at least. she frowns a little, trying to make sense of the new knowledge she has access to.

ugh.

she swings her legs over the edge of the bunk, grabbing at her communicator and squinting a little at the screen. her memories felt foggy, and nothing about that was pleasant. ]

Hello? Um - it's Katara. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the Castle's behind this?

[ she sounds vaguely hopeful, but- no, katara, no. you are blaming the wrong jamjar. please try again. ]

[ - she's only saying it like that because she knows he can overhear her. :') ]

He's not so bad, just eccentric sometimes.

You have a really nice way of calling him "exhausting."

[ she means none of it. really, she's just trying to figure out if there's a way to - well, get to his ship right now. this video thing is an incredible improvement over the functionality of the journals, but it's not nearly the same thing as seeing someone in person. ]

[he gives a little laugh]

Believe me, I've dealt with much more exhausting people than him.

[ and then, because katara has the communications augment and inexplicably knows how to do this, she switches over to beam a message to his personal communicator. ]

How is he? I mean, I'm not saying you should have been looking after him, but if you're on a ship together you probably have a pretty good idea--?

[ she'd seen people worn so, so thin by paradisa. did the same thing happen here? ]

[Whoa fancy. He had no idea people could do that so easily! Probably because there's never been a Comms person on his ship]

He's been alright. He works hard to be a good captain and look after us. I'd say he's one of the better captains in the fleet.

I do think he's missed home though, and all of you. So...it's good that you're here.

[ her expression is a mix of pride and something like a wincing empathy. he'd been here a long time. ]

I remember what it was like, being there without him. I mean, I wish I was home, but - I'm glad to finally be here, if he is.

Of course. You two are siblings after all.

[Not that he has any. But he remembers Komui and Lenalee. How both of them would go through hell and back for each other]

Maybe now you two can find a way home together.

As long as we can both go. [ simply, lightly. it's not worth going if it means one of them has to abandon the other. after a moment, though, her expression dissolves into something like relief. ] --do you remember Zuko? Is it bad that I'm relieved that he's not here? [ katara is grinning at him, expression sheepish. ] I kind of feel like that's bad.

[He gives a little surprised laugh. There's a name he hasn't thought of in awhile]

Oh, I remember him alright. [He returns a smile] I don't think it's bad...Zuko, always...seem to have a tendency to make things much more...dramatic than they needed to be?

[ okay, so maybe katara is aware of the fact that she exacerbated the problem, but... it was rough having the only person from home pretty much hate your guts, ok. ]

And you have a gift for understatement, huh.

[He gives a sympathetic smile]

Sorry. He came and went so often in Paradisa that after awhile...I suppose I didn't interact with him as much as you did by the end.

[ she shakes her head, expression warm if faintly apologetic. ]

I'm just being dramatic, too. Honestly, I'm still kind of trying to just... adjust. It's like I'm waiting for the big reveal, that this is just another one of the castle's tricks- it was pretty good at those.

I know what you mean. I felt that way for the first month.

But I don't think it is this time. It's been too long. And...well-

[How to phrase this]

If you want a reveal, well- I heard about you leaving Paradisa months before I came here. I'm not sure where you were until now, but... [yeaaaah]

[ katara feels like that should be a reveal, but it doesn't sit that way on her face. ]

... yeah. It feels like it was a long time ago. It shouldn't, but - I can barely remember what my room looked like.

[ still, though: it's weird to think of herself like that, as another person who just up and vanished one day. ]

[He almost says he remembers it vaguely. It was pretty simple, set up like a Water Tribe home. Old fashion and rough, but comfortable. But he stops himself. That was Katara from another stay at the castle, not this one. It was way back when he young enough to be her peer who got invited to her room to eat a bowl of sea prune stew. He had accepted because he had a little crush on her for awhile. The evening had ended with him chickening out of asking her out after she kept bringing up Aang then promptly returning to his own room to throw up the entire bowl of stew. ]

[....Ugh. He hadn't thought about that evening in years. This is exactly why he doesn't chat up returning residents that much.]

[But oh, he should probably focus on the conversation at hand

Really? That's...strange. I wonder if you were somewhere else.

No idea.

[ she notices that he's a little... distant, but there's no way she could ever guess as to the reason for it. katara kind of shrugs, then, palms up. maybe once she would have worried more about it, but knowing what she knows now - it's better to focus on the preset, right? ]

But I'm here now. Better work on sorting that out first, right?

Ah- of course! You're right.

Now's what matters. We can worry about that other stuff later.
