I know you can fall asleep and suddenly remember more from home. Didn't think that stuff would still happen if they're just memories.

Has that happened to anyone else? Waking up with something new?

[ For those on the Red Fish who have paid attention, Carl has been absent for a few days. Only tucked into his bed, but still. If they're quick enough, they could catch him sneaking his way to the medical bay, head tucked toward his chin and hair covering his face. Hiding something? Of course not, there's nothing to hide!

Afterward, he'll be out wandering the halls, white bandage covering half his face and looking a little older than he was when he went to sleep. Still the same twerp, though. ]

[ Just like their routine before, Carl is in the gym at eight. He's ready to go, but it's irritating, knowing he'll basically have to relearn a lot of the stuff they'd already gone over to compensate. ]

In that case, let's see if you remember how to throw a punch.

[That's a little bit of an exaggeration, but he's gained some height and reach, on top of losing his sense of perspective.

[ Remember, yes. Will he throw it the exact same way? It's more than highly unlikely. Regardless, he steps forward and takes the stance that she taught him. His fist curls, thumb on the outside because really, he's not trying to break it. Lets the motion start with his footing and push through the punch.

[Not unexpected. Natasha barely has to side step it.

The question is how much is new body and how much is not being able to see. She smiles a little, rueful.]

Well. We have a little work to do, but I think we can work around it.

[Losing an eye never stopped Nick. Natasha sees no reason to let it stop Carl.]

[ He's really not going to let having one eye slow him down. There's too much to do and too much at stake for him to let that happen. It just makes him more determined. ]

Guess that means you're not rid of me yet. What's that saying, 'no rest for the wicked'?

She holds up one hand, tapping her palm.]

Yes ma'am.

[ Carl takes up the stance again, focusing on her hand. He takes his time, striking out at her hand when he thinks he's ready. ]

[She doesn't rush him. His body is still learning how to process the world with one eye, and pushing too hard won't make his brain adapt faster.

That's a lesson Natasha didn't learn from her own training.]

Okay. You got that. Try it again, faster. Same spot.

[ Faster he can do. So long as her hand doesn't move, it should be the same. The only way he'll get better at it is with practice. It will help with his hand-eye coordination in the long run. ]

[Natasha nods and has him do it again, and again, building his confidence, then moving it to one side, just a few inches.]

Okay, again.

[Little by little, she works on this, letting him see as she moves each time, just a fee inches, maybe a little closer, maybe a little further.]

[ It throws him off when she moves her hand, but he recognizes that it's to help him with a moving target. He'll keep at it until she tells him to stop. ]
