Given the recent events, I think it is prudent that all current captains and their first mates meet. It has been some time since we've had one, to my knowledge, and I believe it to be in our better interests to discuss the change in circumstances.

I'll secure a space that can fit us all, and let you know where and when soon.

_{[ Kirk had secured a space that was both relatively private and large enough to fit all of the captains and first mates. At least being on the Marsiva meant that everything here was more or less neutral ground, even if it didn't feel like the safest place to meet per say. But putting this off until they got off it didn't feel right either, so best to make the most of it.

Hopefully all the captains would come, and their first mates, and they could try to make sense of the most recent events. Because someone had to, right? ]}

"Warrior? I guess? Peace keeper. I uh...headed a war effort, helped save the world."

Sokka used to be a lot more brazen and cocky about this. These days, the wind is out of his sails a little.

"Last time I was home, I was in the process of helping rebuild."

"What was the nature of the war you fought?"

She's tried to get to know especially those who have fought, if mostly because Signy feels she must have more in common with them.

"Wow. Asking the easy questions, huh? Most people start with names. I'm Sokka, by the way."

He can;t help the sarcasm, largely this time it's to deflect to find a good way to put it. A simple way, to try and compress a hundred years of conflict into a short conversation.

"One nation tried to take over all the others, they got to the point where they were going to raze most of the world to the ground, if we hadn't of stepped in."

"I'm Signy Mallory." If names are important to him, he can have hers easily enough.

"Formerly Captain of the Norway, served under Commander Mazian until his defection from Earth Company, at which point the Norway worked with the Merchanters in the war against Union."

She considers his points. "Sounds like you were single-planet bound, if I have that right. Weapons and tactics?"

"See? Was that so hard?"

He listens, making a mental note of it. Most of it means little to him, but it's clearly important information, all the same.

"Yep. No space or other planets til I came here," which seems like a lifetime ago, now. "I have a sword made out of a meteor and a bladed boomerang. Spears, too. And I'm pretty good with battlefield tactics, trying to out-think them, y'know?"

Hard, no, but it hadn't struck Signy as particularly important to do.

Her face betrays her skepticism when it came to from. Swords and spears don't do that much good on a ship that had a ranged weaponry system, and those sorts of tactics are unlikely to carry well over to three dimensional space.

"How long have you been here?" Maybe he's had a chance to adjust.

"Two and a half years," he shrugs. "I came here not long after this Cycle started- maybe a week or two in?"

So yes, he has had a lot of time to adjust. And he still hates how little he knows about their captors. He NEEDS some weak points, something he can exploit to their advantage.

Signy takes in a sharp inhale. That's longer than she would have expected.

"They still had their shit together at the beginning?"

"They sure did," he sighs. "I'd say it was worse back then. They were less...slip ups. They weren't obviously wounded by anything."

"I see." She almost wishes it had been the other way around, but still, that means they're gaining ground. "Have the reactions of those in the fleet shifted since that time?"

"I dunno. I mean, those of us who have been here for a while got...used to it. I guess?" he shrugs. "But newcomers always find it difficult to adjust, unless they've been to another world between this and their own. There's a few like that."

"Yeah, but what does getting used to it mean to you? Do you play along with them, or have you found a way to justify it?"

"Neither," is his honest reply. "I've never stopped trying to find a way to get at them. Never stopped looking for a weak point, finding a place to strike. And I definitely don't justify any of what they're doing to us. I've just learned a visceral reaction gets you nowhere. They don't care that we're angry, that we don't want to be here. You might as well be screaming at a brick wall."

"You haven't," she repeats back. It's an affirmation, and a pleased one. "I've found explosives more useful with the brick wall, but I suppose we still need to find what can serve in the place of that metaphor.

He laughs, nodding.

"We do. Or, if we're using literal explosives, we need to find the best place and time to use them. We got to be sneakier than they are."

Her smile grows a little more. She's decided she at least approves of him.

"Some people might call that impossible when we're under constant surveillance."

Yay, he has approval!! He really does crave that.

"Ft, it's not impossible, it's just learning to be smarter than they are."

"I wouldn't be one of those people who think it impossible." Her eyes, expression, are sharp now. She's a woman used to taking the hard path because there isn't another.

"If you have a specific idea you want to try, let me know. Any time."

"Glad to hear it. I mean, I'm no optimist," his tone suggest exactly what he thinks of optimists. "But I'm not gonna give up, either."

He nods.

"Will do. At the moment, I'm just gathering whatever info I can to get us somewhere safe, while trying to dig up whatever dirt I can on them."

"The difference between optimism and winning is the difference between being certain you have the solution and being willing to try anything until that solution is found."

She's sure she's on the same page as him, and that's good.

"Keep trying, and so will I."

"Exactly! I'm glad someone gets it, the people I know back home sure don't," well, maybe Zuko does. He grins, nodding. "You got a deal!"

Whatever it takes. That's the thing that matters.

Signy gives him a nod, then goes to join the general meeting that's starting.
