Captain's Log 11 - Calling All Captains

Given the recent events, I think it is prudent that all current captains and their first mates meet. It has been some time since we've had one, to my knowledge, and I believe it to be in our better interests to discuss the change in circumstances.

I'll secure a space that can fit us all, and let you know where and when soon.

<sub>[ Kirk had secured a space that was both relatively private and large enough to fit all of the captains and first mates. At least being on the Marsiva meant that everything here was more or less neutral ground, even if it didn't feel like the safest place to meet per say. But putting this off until they got off it didn't feel right either, so best to make the most of it.

Hopefully all the captains would come, and their first mates, and they could try to make sense of the most recent events. Because someone had to, right? ]</sub>

BEFORE THE MEETING / ARRIVALS

A Captain's meeting was a good call; the calibration rooms have been taking their toll on everyone, in addition to everything concerning their past and current 'hosts'. They needed to stick together if they were to weather this thing.]

However, Furiosa herself has been hit hard by the calibrations. She's more withdrawn than usual, exuding more of a quiet predator when she'd first arrived. Instead of sitting at the table, she takes up a spot against the wall, leaning back and crossing her arms.

[Kitty might take a seat once everyone filters in, but for now she takes a space not far from Furiosa, but also not crowding her. This calibrations aren't much different than things she's been through in her last abduction. They had shared dreams there which often played out memories. Still, she hasn't been quite as relaxed and social since she lost Winn, and being near the quiet predator feels like the most comfortable spot in the room. It's something she knows instinctively. It's a vibe she'd expect from another X-Man. At least one from back home. And she hasn't been in Furiosa's mind or vice versa yet at least, so there isn't that awkwardness.

She does greet her with a head nod.]

[Furiosa glances over as Kitty settles next to her, and gives her a slight nod back, more in acknowledgement than anything else, recognizing it's not someone she's been forced to share minds with. She's thankful for that - that some people still get their privacy (from herself, it not from others).]

Here's hoping we're able to figure something out.

There's always hope no matter how small. [She smiles a little. She doesn't think much will come from it in terms of productivity. But maybe they'll get a better working relationship and they'll be able to pull together more as a very large team instead of a collection of individuals. She knows the power of a team united by a single interest. Of course, she also knows what it's like to try to form such a thing in a place like this. There are challenges beyond what she faced at home.]

We all bring different experiences to this. That's something.

[She gives Kitty a little raised brow. Hope. No fair using that argument against her.]

[Her lips curl ever so slightly in response, but it's not enough to thaw the edges.]

Sometimes even that's not enough; you need the right set of circumstances. [She looks down at Kitty,] It's not luck; it's someone else fucking up, or underestimating you.

It was no surprise that Signy was here, looking grim and absolutely, completely determined. So others were now more convinced they needed to act? In Signy's opinion it was about damn time.

It was also important to know what assets they had on their side, so she moved from person to person, asking, "What were you before you came here?" if she didn't already know.

Well, that's blunt. Nami gives a faint shrug. She's not in a good mood, which is hardly Signy's fault, but it does make her tone a little more flat than usual when she answers. To the point. "Navigator. Cartographer. Pirate."

"Boat or spaceship?" Signy is often blunt to the point of fault, but she figures that they're all here for a common purpose, and she doesn't need to make small talk to figure out what they need.

"Ship," she responds, though she clarifies a moment later, tiredly: "The sailing variety. You?"

"Spaceship. Norway had over a thousand personnel, and I was her Captain. Where I come from."

"Warrior? I guess? Peace keeper. I uh...headed a war effort, helped save the world."

Sokka used to be a lot more brazen and cocky about this. These days, the wind is out of his sails a little.

"Last time I was home, I was in the process of helping rebuild."

"What was the nature of the war you fought?"

She's tried to get to know especially those who have fought, if mostly because Signy feels she must have more in common with them.

"Wow. Asking the easy questions, huh? Most people start with names. I'm Sokka, by the way."

He can;t help the sarcasm, largely this time it's to deflect to find a good way to put it. A simple way, to try and compress a hundred years of conflict into a short conversation.

"One nation tried to take over all the others, they got to the point where they were going to raze most of the world to the ground, if we hadn't of stepped in."

"I'm Signy Mallory." If names are important to him, he can have hers easily enough.

"Formerly Captain of the Norway, served under Commander Mazian until his defection from Earth Company, at which point the Norway worked with the Merchanters in the war against Union."

She considers his points. "Sounds like you were single-planet bound, if I have that right. Weapons and tactics?"

Furiosa isn't expecting people to come to her; she's more here to observe and add if she feels she has something relevant to add, so having someone approach her directly, and then ask her that, gets a slight tilt of the head.

She hasn't been in this woman's memories, hasn't seen her in her own, so it is a valid question.

"Imperator." Because that's a totally clear answer, right?

It's an answer, but it's not one that lets Signy know what her experience level actually is.

"What does an Imperator do, and in what sort of environment?"

Something like a general. I was in charge of the warboys. We made supply runs, raids, fought off bandits. I was in charge, out in the wastelands; scorching, dead earth. Few resources, massive sandstorms."

She tilted her head slightly and cut a glare down at the other woman, "Any other questions?"

Tyrion is the last one sauntering through the door -- well as well as he ever saunters which is pretty Sauntery. He's got the most important part of this meeting - bottles of liquor. He put down the bottles, waggled his eyebrows at everyone, and states simply, "If we are here to talk about what we are going to do - we need liquor. It is bound to get depressing at some point or another.

DISCUSSION

It seemed everyone who wished to come had come, and there wasn't anything to be gained by waiting longer. If someone came in late, they could be filled in briefly and they would carry on. But every moment that they postponed talking of this, the worse it all seemed to Kirk.

He took his seat and looked around the table at those who had decided to assemble, feeling like he was back in his proper element. Though what a hell of a time to feel that, huh?

"Thank you, everyone, for coming," Kirk said, continuing to sweep his gaze slowly over the assembled. "I'm sure everyone is aware of the... change in Atroma, or at the least of those who speak to us on Atroma's behalf. Which leaves us with questions, and possible decisions to make. What does this mean for us, and can we do anything about it?"

Short and sweet, and now the floor was open.

Sokka is always willing to be around to discuss things with the other captains and first mates. Exchanging ideas and beliefs is the best way to work out just about anything. To hash it out, see things from every angle- find a solution that might actually work. Public speaking isn't really his thing, it's always been a weakness of his. But this is important.

"I think the root problem is one that's always been here. They've got eyes and ears everywhere, literally following our every move," he sits back, exhaling. "I used to think the Iskaulit was safe- that it was never theirs, but now we can get upgrades there? We don't even have that place to get privacy from them. Whatever we plan, they're going to be ten steps ahead of us unless we find a way to discus things without them catching on."

"Be that as it may, if we're going to be discussing anything at all, the Marsiva is one of the least private options available to us." Pointedly. In Nami's eyes, there isn't much that can be discussed on the Atroma's own host ship at all. Sensitive stuff should stay well out of this meeting.

"Though it might all be moot. I mean-- there's no reason our augments aren't doing all the recording for them."

"Could build a shuttle from found items. Seems to work for weapons. Wouldn't solve the augment problem, though. We need to find a way to isolate them. Maybe get the lab techs to continue to look into it?"

Not that people haven't already done that, with some near-disastrous results, but what Nami says is true; anything else they do won't matter much if Atroma still has access to everything they see/hear/feel through the augments.

"I assume we drift based on where they want us to. So even if we come across something that seems free from their influence we should still be careful. As what had likely happened is that they wanted us to come across the things we find.

Like the Iskaulit. They could have had that set up to spy on us before we even came across it." He's never personally trusted the Iskaulit. Too many chances for their host to eventually get on it if they hadn't from the start if they really wanted to. Especially now that they were all trapped here.

"Except of course, for that time we were attacked, I get the feeling that wasn't exactly part of their plan."
