I do not care to take that risk. Nor do I have any reason to believe the Atroma would avoid abducting those who might wish harm upon those who are already here. So I am equally unwilling to risk any potential enemy make note of who resides where.

[If anything, she half expected the Atroma to pull something like that at some point, and bring in mortal enemies or general, murderous criminal types. "Ratings" and all that.]

This ship and those aboard are under my protection, and I have no reason to trust anyone's better nature. I advise you to exercise similar diligence. Because anyone who causes harm to come to the ship or this crew- through deliberate action or negligence- will feel my fury.

[You're new here, so she'll break her agreement with Sayid and just slam one fist into the closest bulkhead to make a point. And it sure does just cave in on impact, even if it does pop itself back into place once she's removed her fist from the wall.]

[ Throughout the entire tirade, Rick remained silent, barely flinching from the show of 'aggression'. In the past couple of years, he dealt with far too many like her and never found himself too worked up about it. They all followed relatively the same path with the same objectives, far too predictable and in the end it always became their undoing. Besides, Negan, of course, but he took him unaware and he refused to ever fall into such a trap again.

No one would ever find an upperhand on him again. ]

Ya know, you get far more loyalty and diligence if you treat others with respect and don't talk down to 'em. Way you're actin', people won't listen. Might want to tone down if you want to be taken seriously.

[ Besides, he knew the dangers all too well of what paranoia caused. One of the reasons Negan took such a stronghold with them was because of that. ]

[If they'd been having this conversation a year ago, Rick would have been the next thing to dent the bulkhead. But her restraint had improved somewhat, and while she was visibly furious, she kept a handle on it all the same. She'd already made up her mind that the rest of the crew would be under her protection, and it would take a significant offense for her to make any sort of exception.]

Your opinion is no concern of mine, human. You have been duly warned. And when it becomes necessary, I am certain you will find I am a force better to rally behind than be broken before.

[There's certainly a strongly implied "or else," there, and she doubts her first mate would approve of it, but that's not much of a concern for her.]

You have armor and a weapon in the armory. Take care of both. I have no intention of running this vessel as one of my fleet's, but I do expect them to be kept in proper condition. Should we find ourselves in a situation that demands it, I expect them to be useable.

You may keep both on your person if you wish.

[ While many would feel bothered by the displays, none of it phased Rick since he went through far worse the past couple of years. Besides, he dwelt with plenty of others like her and they always ended up the same eventually. They all learned they approached things the wrong way, generally, after others turned on them. So, he remained silent through her tirade and let her say all she needed to say. More like rant but again it didn't bother him.

Whoever let her take charge had been seriously wrong, though, she had the wrong temperament for it. ]

Do ya expect we'll be in a situation needin' artillery? [ Someone paranoid about battles with her temper would make things even more dangerous. ]

I would not expect it, but any of us finding ourselves under attack is not impossible. Or improbable.

[And preparation meant preparing for the worst, after all. And since her crew wasn't comprised of actual tiny animals that followed her around at all times, she was hoping they'd be willing to take precautions.]

I have heard that the fleet came under attack several months ago. Not long before I arrived. Some of our fellow outsiders were even taken prisoner while seeking work at the last planet we visited. It was a job I elected not to join them on, just prior to departure.

[ Finally, they agreed on something. Rick preferred to prepare for anything and tended to run worse case scenarios in his mind often enough. It never worked for everything, of course, but tended to give him a little more edge than others. ]

Need to make sure everybody can defend themselves. And they know how to use weapons.

What ended up happenin'? Did they get the people back? Did anythin' happen to the planet?

That is why I am in favor of permitting those aboard this ship to be armed whenever they wish. I would require it, but as rank means little here, I believe it would be easier to avoid issuing an order unless it is necessary. I have heard there is a practice range aboard the Marsiva- we could begin planning regular drills.

[The "we" was deliberate there- one problem was that the title of "Captain" might have been meaningless, but being the most unstoppable force on the ship did provide some clout. But she at least understood that issuing orders and micromanaging everyone's lives would be a quicker path to mutiny than most.

The other was that while Looma could probably figure out how this primitive tech worked, she had serious doubts about her qualifications to teach the humans how to fire a weapon. They had fewer limbs and probably could not, in fact, fire a long gun from both hands without difficulty.]

What I know of the attack on the ships is hearsay- and incomplete. But to my knowledge there were casualties, but none fatal. As for those kidnapped, they fought their way back.

[ At long last they seemed to have found some sort of common ground. He nodded his head about not issuing orders because he knew how faster a mutiny could rise up. There were enough troubles overall to add any others to the mix. They would need to make sure everyone knew basic defensive strategies, though. ]

Weekly or bi-weekly drills could be somethin'. Could mark it down as bondin' purposes.

[ Along with the drills they could include a few other things to be done as a group to make it appear less pressured.

Even just the possibility of attacks made it necessary for the defensive measures. ]

Wouldn't doubt it. Things seem tense if those network videos are anythin' to go by.
