[So — Sam got updated. Thank fucking christ. Nami, you'd better be ready for him to excitedly knock on your door at some point. You can also find Sam at The Space Bar, where he's right back to bar-tending. Feel free to stop by if you need him. But as everyone settles back into normalcy aboard the fleet, Sam makes a new entry to the network. Gotta air out that dirty laundry business.

A few days after they've returned home:]

So, um. That was something, huh...?

[He clears his throat, drums his fingers on top of an old red book.]

Let's just clear the room — I wanted to apologize for... anyone who had gone into my head, or whatever you want to call it. I know there's a lot in there that isn't exactly pleasant to deal with. But I'm cool with it. I mean, I remember it all, and I'm totally fine with everything. So if you're worried about the whole trespassing thing... I'll get over it.

I'm just... I'm sorry, because I know some of it was... Yeah.

[He's dealt with worse. Far worse.]

There are some things for me to be thankful for, right now, in better news; I got a quick trip back home between the Marsiva and the Bloodsport. See, um... My brother, he made it out of a predicament in one piece when I was sure he was gone. And I did, too. Somehow. And I got to meet my mom. Like, in the flesh, as herself.

So as shitty as this month has been in some respects... I'm... just happy I've got her and my brother.

[Ehem.]

Anyway. Enough of the sappy serious stuff.

Anyone want to rent out a book? I'm starting to get quite a collection here.

Oh, it was like... uhm. It was a themed pizza parlor for kids.

Had games and prizes, things like that. The clown was the, uh. Mascot. I vanished any time he tried wandering nearby, though; right to the bathroom stall. [He makes a zooming motion with his hand, straight as an arrow.] Mostly just worried he'd sprout claws and try to eat me.

Babies, and where they are or aren't accommodated, isn't really my area of expertise.

[ which is a dodge if you've heard one. let's not discuss the outdoor baby cages, sam. she'd much rather get back to making fun of you for your fear of clowns. ]

Hey, I can name a lot of things the 1940's did that is questionable now, other than baby cages. Like not wear seatbelts. And have doctor-sponsored smoking advertisements.

Getting thrown out of automobiles is bad.

[ doing what wrong? driving? sitting in a seat? it's all a little ridiculous. peggy's mood is strained, to say the least, and she's not prepared to entertain rational argument. ]

I'm just saying... seat belts significantly reduce fatalities and injuries by over 50%.

People who do a lot of driving should probably consider one. You're definitely gonna be around when it becomes illegal to drive without being buckled up.

[ here's how you can tell that peggy is having a tough month: this might indeed be the sanest and most normal conversation she's ever had with sam winchester, and yet she still insists on treating him with incredulity. ]

Something like that. [He rubs the back of his head, smiling.] I'd thought my mom died in a car accident before they finally told me the truth, so I was kind of a dictator when it came to making them all buckle up.

... And, I mean, I've seen a few vehicle-related ghost hauntings....

[See, it was totally sympathetic and serious and then ghosts.]

[ peggy was all prepared to be considerate and careful in her response. a dead mother is nothing to huff over, for one.

but then he keeps going and... ]

And yet I do consider you capable of at least a measure of self-control. Even in this.

Space and vacation time has made me way better.

What can I say? My life's been nothing but secrets.

Once I needed to be admitted to a mental hospital for a case, so I just told them the god's truth.

[ lord knows, she might have easily seen someone committed should they spout half the nonsense he does. it's the fleet that's made her more accepting of such things. ]

There's one thing that's easy for you to believe.

[Of course it involves him in a loony bin. That kind of cracks him up a little.]

I -- I don't know how you do it. [ she admits, twisting suddenly to a place of honesty. ] You talk about having lived a life of secrets and -- and Lord knows, I'm familiar. But you've shaken that restriction so thoroughly.

[ maybe she doesn't need to keep secrets here in the fleet. but she does -- it's second nature, and she doesn't like the vulnerability that comes with telling them. or letting other see them. ]

Honestly, I don't know. I've lived a life of secrets since I was eight years old. I think after a while, you start to get sick of it — or, or you start feeling like it's just all bubbling up, and you want someone to finally know. Without thinking you're crazy.

[But there are secrets. That goes unsaid. Ohhh, there are secrets.

Some secrets are just more pressing than others.]

I thought... What've you got to lose, to get some of it off your chest, you know?
