[Meet Aang, as the tattooed young monk suddenly wakes up in the infirmary bed with a shock.

He jumps to his feet and begins pacing the area while being both highly anxious and slightly dazed.]

Wait! What just happened... Did I really beat the fire lord, or- or was that just a dream?!

Where is everyone...

[Then he pauses as he sees out a window into all of outer space; the monk gasps.]

Oh no...! Where did the world go?!

[At least he still has his pants.]

Time works really weird, here. The last thing I remember was being on the warship in the battle.

So for you and Katara, sure, that was real. For me? Not so much, yet.

...Almost, though?

If you were on the warship, then you must've been near the end...

So you're saying that you're from the past, but for six months?

[And he thought being stuck in an iceberg for 100 years was confusing enough...]

Yeah. Or uh. Here for six months. Time stops back home, apparently? I don't know, Aang, I work in hard science, you know I don't get this mumbo jumbo stuff.

[He HATES not getting it. He's fighting it as best he can, but he's still fighting an enemy he barely understands. ]

I'm trying to get us home. Been looking for maps, star charts, anything that can clue me in on getting back.

[He's been SO BUSY. ]

Okay, okay... [He makes some calming motions as he tries to make sense of it.]

So, time's weird. I guess that's that!

Is it really that complicated to find where we're from... Why don't you just ask someone for directions?

Because no one knows where we are. Whenever we get to planets, no one knows the way back to our planet. We could be millions and millions of lightyears away. We'd have to find a way to program our ships to get us there, and it'd take a long time. If we get the co-ordinates at all, and-

[Wait, Aang won't get all this. He's still new and chances are he doesn't have the engineering augment like Sokka. ]

...It's just going to be really hard, but I'm still working on it. I just need a little time and a lot of luck.

[He does not indeed have that augment, so it sounds a lot like mumbo jumbo to him. But it definitely sounds like it's stressing Sokka... so he tries to respond calmly.]

It's okay, Sokka. Just take your time and I'm sure we'll get lucky! If we got all the way out here somehow, then there's gotta be a way back, too. I'm sure of it!

Exactly! They needed some way to capture us.

I just need to figure out how.

[Always the plan guy, he has plans within plans, here. ]

Hmmm... [He sits down as he starts seriously pondering question.]

So how did they get us... Ooh! What if they used, like... some kind of big fishing net to scoop us all up, like fish!

Yeah. No. I'm guessing more... telportation? Something like that.

Oh!

Huh. I guess that makes sense...

Hey, what if we try using the spirit world? That's... almost like teleporting!

[alwayscomeback]

Maybe? I mean...it could work? I'll leave that to you, that's your [wiggly fingers] Avatar thing.

[Ok, for serious realises now: ] Are you ok? I mean...with the battle, and everything.

[He knows you were so freaked out about it. ]

[He makes a note to meditate and try that later. It probably won't be very successful.

But Aang makes a calm nod at Sokka's question, while bearing a smile of contentment.]

I'm okay now. The battle's over. It's all finally over.

[It's hard to believe. Everything was going so wrong the last thing Sokka remembers. To hear it goes well, better than well...it's still sinking in. ]

It's been a long time coming.

What happened with the Fire Lord?

It was long fight, but... but I won. I stopped him and I took his bending away. He won't be hurting anyone again.

[alwayscomeback]

[And because he has to ask.. ]

So, he's still alive?

[savedtheworld]

[He nods softly.]

I couldn't do it, Sokka. It just wasn't right. [No melons were sliced on that day.]

But he's not gonna be fire lord anymore. He's done being an enemy... now he'll be a prisoner.

[alwayscomeback]

[Sokka's disappointed, but not surprised. If Aang had gone through with it, he probably wouldn't have been their Aang any more. It's the sort of thing that changes people. If he could have asked anyone else to do it, he would have. He just hopes they won't pay for this later down the line. ]

Well. It's not the worst case scenario. At least we won.

[Maybe he'll feel better when he gets to see Ozai's humiliated and form and dub him the loser lord.

Aang himself feels proud of what he was able to accomplish, even if he understands that others will be let down by it. He was able to preserve his way of life and who he is. Even though Ozai is still alive, he was still able to take a decisive action in removing him from power.]

We did. [He smiles softly and nods. The memory is fresh enough for him that, despite this odd new environment, he still feels a powerful sense of calm about the fact that it's finally all over.]

The war's stopped now... Things are gonna be okay, Sokka.

[alwayscomeback]

[That WOULD make him feel better, yep. That would be a good day. He exhales, it'll be fine. It'll be okay. ]

About time, too. I am so ready to try and live a normal life again.

[Like their lives will ever be normal.]

That'd be nice. [Aang knows there's still work to be done to finish restoring balance; it's not over yet.

But he still holds onto the belief that it will be over someday. That he'll be able to return to his own version of a normal life.]

...Instead, you got a space-y life. So... what kinds of thing have been happening here?

Yep. Space-y space.

Mostly? We fly around, we find a planet, stay there for a month, shenanigans ensue, we pack up, move on. For the most part it hasn't been terrible. No wars, or anything like that.

No wars... I think I like that part. A lot.

What about animals? Are there any fun ones to ride around here?

[alwayscomeback]

Well, there were ostriches, but we left that planet. I don't think any of them qualify as 'fun' to ride.


...But we have cats on my ship? The cook kept adopting them.

Huh. Ostriches... like ostrich-horses?

Cats are cute, at least. ...But what about Appa and Momo? Shouldn't they be with you?

No, just...ostriches. It's weird, I know.

[He frowns, shaking his head. ]

Nope, I haven't seen them since before the battle. They didn't come across here.
