[Though Cass can understand a recorded voice, seeing a person is always easiest for her, so she switches over to video with the hopes the other person will follow suit.

[well... Coil does follow her lead and switch over to video--so, she gets treated to the sight of his scarred-up, one-eyed face--but he has a very flat expression over the whole thing.

he just points to his mouth, and draws a little 'X' over his lips with the tip of his finger.]

[Possibly unexpectedly, Cass smiles.]

I can understand you... through your movements. We can still... well, not talk. Communicate.

he's curious. and a little questioning look soon follows, as he bobs his chin up a little.

[As tempted as she is to nod to answer, Cass chooses speech instead.

That doesn't happen often.]

Yes. It's a... special skill, sort of. [Nowhere near that pleasant, but sometimes it's best to give the explanation that requires the least amount of actual explaining. This isn't about her, it's about him.] You can test, if you want. I just have to... see your body, to know your meaning.

[he's skeptical--that much would be obvious to anyone. but he's also curious enough to give it a shot.

questioningly, he gestures between the two of them, and then demonstrates a mock-ready pose. not anything genuinely aggressive, of course. just something that would be used in a sparring match.]

[he doesn't smile, because he never does. but especially with someone who can read his little shifts of expression so well, the general lightening-up that falls over his face has the same effect. he is very pleased.

and since he doesn't feel like bringing a visitor back to his weird little den of a ship yet, he just nods.
