[Here is a little redhead, glass of wine in hand, who appears to be right-side up, yet in the background everything appears to be… upside down? The kitchen is upside down, apparently.]

Question for all of you. It’s been brought to my attention numerous times that some of you don’t come from a world where people have fancy kinds of powers.

For those of you who do, what kind of powers have you experienced? How do yours work? I’ve heard some say theirs are elemental based, while others are based on magic.

For those of you who don’t, have you ever wondered what having special powers is like? There has to be something more interesting than, say, if you were invisible, you'd spy on someone.

Are there sorts of powers you consider not fancy?

[Chuuya nods.]

Once there was a guy in my crew who had the power to make small flames with his hands. I think he thought it was cool, but it was sad, really. A lighter would have worked just the same.

So fanciness is a factor of power, then?

[Sometimes he asks questions because he really wants to know, and other times he does it to be obnoxious. All the better when he can accomplish both tasks at once]

[Chuuya laughs at the question.]

But of course! What's a special power if not something fancy? That's part of what makes it a special ability, after all. If it isn't fancy, then it probably isn't anything special!

Maybe so. But it seems to me that special is also a matter of context. What if you come from a world where many people have a similar ability, then the only difference is the level of that that ability that would potentially make it special. Or perhaps you have such an ability but here, where people can do things such as...stand on the ceiling...for example...[He smiles a little, nodding his head ever so slightly towards the camera]...that makes it seem quite a bit less fancy in comparison.

You do raise a good point! I met someone here who has an ability similar to mine, but I don't know the extent of hers. It may be exactly the same, and it may not be.

[Since him being on the ceiling was brought up, he goes along with that.]

For example, I'm not sure if she can do this as well, but even if she can't, I don't think I would look down on her ability. Maybe it's just my bias for any abilities like mine though.

I think it's worthwhile to try to remove bias when it comes to these things. Our worlds are far too different to make direct comparisons. Power can be...subjective.

Also true! With any luck I'll meet someone with an ability that's more impressive than mine.

[So smug about this.]

That seems like a curious thing to hope.
