do these things come with barf bags?
Who: Ochako + OTA
Broadcast: Fleetwide
Action: Planetside
When: Nowish?
( video / broadcast; )
Ssssoooo... anybody I know have a license to fly those space cars? I want to learn how to drive one! But they said I have to be 18 to drive it alone, so I need an adult with me. I can get the autopilot versions, but, um. They kind of freak me out? ...Also they suck. They really, really suck.
[did I mention the video image shows the background around her looks like it's upside down? because it totally looks like it is.]
Anyway, let me know if you can help! It can't be that different from a shuttle, and I'm not bad with those! Thanks in advance.
( on the planet; )
[how much do the autopilot hovers suck? Ochako's gone and found out the hard way. she's rented one that is exceptionally glitchy- it really likes to fly upside down, which is why her broadcast looks so weird. This isn't such a terrible thing when your superpower is gravity-erasing, but she can only do that for so long before she loses her lunch, so over the course of the rental she might pass people by doing the following:
1) sitting in her seat, upside down, looking awfully green
2) dangling from her clipped seatbelt like it's a swing, legs kicking
3) carefully climbing down the seatbelt trying to reach the ground
She might need a little bit of help. That's if she doesn't straight-up collide with somebody first. Uh, duck?]
Ah- ahhhh, look out!!

But okay. He gives a nod before setting into the passenger's seat.
......
He's never been a religious man, but maybe he should ask god for protection.]
Walk me through it, and I'll correct you.
no subject
max that's a terrible way to teach, you should definitely pray]
Oh... um... let's see...
[well, she... kind of was shown the ropes already, so...! she carefully goes through it, step by step, wishing she'd brought her notes. she keeps looking warily at max, though. HELP PLEASE]

Pull your seat back a little. Makes your body more comfortable, for your height.
Too close, too hard to navigate properly.
no subject
[what the hECK she was not aware. She leans down and pokes around, searching for- AH!! Suddenly she's half a foot back and everything is so much more comfortable to reach.]
Whoa! I didn't know it did that.
no subject
... Mmm. You don't want to be too close.
Bad if you get in an accident, because you're too close to the wheel and dash.
no subject
[She's read enough about heroic rescue operations to know how big a problem that can be.]
no subject
[He doesn't particularly mean to bring up his life before the fall of everything, but he does. Well, it's not a big deal, right? He told Peggy. Ochako's not a bad person, not someone to distrust with fragments of his history.]
Go ahead, get into air traffic from here safely.
no subject
Were you with the police?
no subject
He's not usually a passenger, but he doesn't mind as much as he thought he would've.]
... Mm. I was a cop, worked the highways. Lived in a time where people on the roads were often dangerous. World was messed up, and everything was on a, ahm, last leg.
Don't forget your blinker.
no subject
[Hastily she flicks it on- the wrong way, at first, then quickly fixes it. Whoops.]
A policeman though, that's amazing! So you were a hero in your world, too.
[she sounds proud, even. what a good egg you secretly are!!]
no subject
Not a hero, no. Just doing a job.
I liked the drive.
[And also he was a hopeful youth who thought he could be a hero and make a difference.
And things changed. As they do with everyone if they do something long enough, or become jaded to how humanity works. But. Even he's not dickish enough to ruin her heroism thing. It's good for her to cling to it and work for good, even if he's a negative smeg about it all.]
no subject
I don't think it matters very much why you do the job. I'm sure that people you save think well of you for it.
no subject
#droopydog
But he grumbles, relenting. He's not gonna rub that fact into the kid's face.]
... Hmmff... Why do you want to be a hero? Guessing you wanna make a difference.
no subject
Actually, it's kind of embarrassing... um... I want to get rich.
no subject
Huh?
[come again]
no subject
W-well...! My family never had any money... my parents worked really hard, but there was just never enough. So I want to become a hero and get rich so I can support them.
1/2
no subject
[That's the reply you wanted, right?
But also, he does seem to consider something as they go.]
That's not so bad... Wanting money.
My old man was pretty poor, too. Wore a suit, but had a hard time.
no subject
A suit? Like a uniform for something? [is that a reference]
no subject
Suit, like... suit jacket. Polished shoes. Ironed tan pants.
... He was a lot of things. Work was hard to keep steady, where I'm from. Always looked ready for a new job.

He looks kind of pleased, leaning into his seat more comfortably. Another rarity.]
Mmm. Sounds like you have a good father.
M'glad.
no subject
[She tries not to think too hard about it, because then she'll miss him more than she already does, and she'll end up crashing the car. And that would just spoil the good mood. Especially with him sort of smiling! It's so rare.]
no subject
Parents want their kids to be proud of 'em, too. [He stares out the window for a moment, content with her driving skills. His smile is subdued fairly soon, but at least she had a moment of contentment. It's something.] Good to let 'em know you are.
[He clears his throat, pointing ahead and adding little notes.]
Been stopping a little far back at fourways. It's gonna seem like you're close, but you should be up a bit more. Careful not to roll slow instead of stop; full stop's important. Doing fine, other than that.
