[Cole doesn't usually sleep, so waking up is very unfamiliar. He doesn't usually feel the cold or heat much, so the deep coldness in his bones is alien.

He jerks upright with a gasp, hands scrabbling at the back of his neck and then he vanishes in a puff of black-green smoke and reappears in the corner of the room, pressing himself back into it, staring around with wide eyes.]

Whispering, watchful, wakeful, wondering, where?

[He then spends a while patting things around him like the floor and wall, whispering under his breath.

In all honesty, he'll stay in that room until someone convinces him to leave and go elsewhere. It's not like he has to leave for any reason.]

[Squinting. Did that thing just...teleport itself? Solas seems to know it, but that doesn't really say much. Solas is kind of a weirdo. ]

[Yes, that is definitely an accusation there. Solas left them.]

[Cole thinks about this for a little bit, hugging his knees to his chest.]

I was Compassion before I was Cole. Madam de Fer calls me demon. Solas calls me a spirit. Varric calls me 'kid' and ruffles my hair if I'm sitting on the floor near him.

[he doesn't want to show his face, since he's... not feeling great, and his gross, newely-resurrected monster friend would be upset if he accidentally got caught on camera. so, voice it is.

he sounds very calm, though. curious.]

Compassion. So you are a demon.

Varric? You know Varric?

[Stands to reason, he supposes, if he knows Solas and...yep, there's Dorian. He pinches the bridge of his nose and sighs. Maybe everyone goes crazy in the future and forgets that hanging around with demons is the worst idea ever. ]

Yes. But I don't hurt people. I help them. Care, cradle, caution, water for the thirsty, a blanket for the cold, a knife for the dying. I am Compassion. And I'm Cole. Solas says I am... unique?

[He understands the word, but not entirely the context of it in relation to him. But then the elf mentions Varric and Cole perks up, a small smile appearing.]

Yes! I know Varric. He helped me, learn what being a person is. He's very kind to me. I like his stories. And Bianca. Bianca feels safe, sad, sorrow and security.

[Cole looks around and then calmly addresses wall like that's perfectly normal to him.]

How did you know Varric calls me kid?

[Yes, there is a touch of wonder to his voice]

[Fenris doesn't want to believe it. Spirits are only demons by another name, masquerading as something else until their true colours have shown. ]

I heard much the same about Justice, once. It didn't stop it from becoming a monster with it's host.

[He bristles, not for his sake, but Varric's. He knows Bianca is an absolute no-go area for the dwarf. ]

He is from a different time, he will not know what you are. I strongly suggest you do not speak to him about such things. [Or at all, preferably. ]

[That is horror on Cole's face. Because spirits shouldn't be in people.]

No, no, no, Justice mustn't do that, it's not good for it, it won't survive being in a person, it might for a while, but it'll be changed by the host, it'll stop being Justice, like Wisdom stopped being Wisdom and Compassion became Mercy and Despair and Faith, Faith can do it, but there's so much Pride in some Faith...

[He paces briefly, restlessly, then hides in the corner again.]

He... forgot me?

[He lets out a breath, shifting, apparently resting in bed surrounded by pillows. He tries to make himself look no worse for the wear, but the truth is that Dorian has had a hell of a few weeks. One lover leaving, another taking his place, and then the dragon, and having his magic nearly taken from him...

[Much as Cole unsettled him, he was fond of him, and perhaps Cole and Krista could relate to each other about being non-humans from another world.]

[Cole gets closer to the image, reaching out slowly for it.]

The thing in the back of my head can tell me how to cross the empty, dark, void. I'll come and help, Dorian.

Well, it did, and hundred of people lost their lives as a result. There's a reason demons belong in the Fade. [That one's kind of directed at Cole. Get back where you came from. ]

No. He comes from a time before he met you. He has not joined the Inquisition, yet.

Wait another day or two. Then you will be free to visit my villa here on Mor. Until then...I'm afraid you're stuck on that large ship.

[And then a pause.]

Can you hear things at this distance? My thoughts, er...how did you eloquently put it? Hurts?

[Or would they be spared Cole airing their dirty laundry all over the network?]

[The next words that Cole would hear are annoyed Tevene.]

Leave him be, Fenris, he's not done anything to you.

[And a pillow is launched at Fenris's face to punctuate it. He should be thankful it's not a book.]

No. No, Justice is never meant to be in people, people are too angry for Justice. Being in people is bad. [Fenris' pointed accusation is either ignored or missed.]

But... time is linear in the real world. It happens, and you can't go back. You can't retell it, not like a story.

[For a spirit, he has a good grasp on some of the basics. And then he looks confused, because he knows Dorian's voice.]

You missed out the part where the Inquisition had a pet demon

[The Tevene is aimed at Dorian, he catches the pillow, as if it were nothing, then focuses back on Cole. ]

Fine. But time isn't linear when you are brought to these places. [Even worse when time travel is involved, but Fenris doesn't want to get into the mess that was Exsilium.]

We are all from different points in time. The end result being, Varric will not know you. Do not bring Bianca up.
