[Makie hardly left her room before she fell asleep in it, after Calibrations.  She shuffles out now, though, sleepy and a little unsteady, which is all the giveaway for her to realise she's overslept again.  Seems to be a habit.  She makes herself a cup of tea, checks on her belongings to make sure they don't need maintenance.  When she finds out how much time has passed from her crew, well... that's enough for her to finally leave the ship.  Even mopey depressives can feel the need to stretch their legs.

She'll visit the gardens, check on the memory tree.  And finally, she finds the swimming pool.  Because it happens to have set up shop in the place she used to go to practice in private.  Huh. 

Well, nobody can complain about her swimming now, can they?  One small problem, though...]

I'm looking for someone to teach me how to swim.  In exchange, I offer lessons either in music or swordsmanship.

[Take your pick.  There isn't likely to be a flood here; no children to save from the water.  But she'll return to Adstring eventually, won't she?]

Flying ones, yeah... but cars are nothing new. I've wanted to learn how to drive one for a long time now, but I was always too young for it.

Back home you have to be 18 before you can even start learning.

Mmm... I wouldn't call it anything like that. Some people get that old and never bother learning how to drive- we have lots of other ways to get around. I think it's more about convenience?

Is it particularly dangerous, then? Something a child can't hope to master?

I think it's more about... size, and responsibility? Lots of kids might be reckless with cars, and they can do a lot of damage if they're not controlled the right way... and anyway, if you're too small you can't reach the pedals.

Perhaps it's something I should look into in the future, then.

[She may or may not be kidding. She's not sure. But she does sound amused.]

Oh, sure, why not? It's a good skill! And lots of people volunteered to help me, so I can point you in the right direction.

[...well now she has to try. Eventually. There's a small huff that might be laughter, and then she falls silent a moment. Now the mun knows a little better about what she's been told--]

Mr Vash told me that people have been... having dreams.

Mm, yeah... a bunch of people did. I don't know too many details about it- I didn't get one- but it's been the talk of the network since it happened.

Mmm. It's somewhat disconcerting to hear about. Do you believe something is going to happen?

I don't know what to think. It's kind of hard to believe that people would be sent visions of something that hasn't even happened yet, but... maybe the planet has that power?

[she's from a world full of strange powers, after all, so it's not that unheard of.]

I don't get why it would send the dreams to us and not the people who live there, though.

[Makie at least got used to Adstring's weirdness, so it's no longer as bizarre to her. But she frowns. That's a good point.]

Perhaps the people can't hear the planet. [But she sounds unsure, because why its own natives couldn't when a bunch of people on a ship could, she doesn't know.]

Maybe... but that's kind of a mess.

I kind of end up leaving all this stuff to people smarter than me.

I don't think I'm capable of thinking on such a grand scale. [She can barely think outside of the scope of a small town, let alone a whole world.] You may be on to something. My captain just warned me to be careful.

Yeah, my sensei's been telling me to keep an eye out, too. I think he's worried and won't say.

Part of me wants to say oh, no, I'm not alone no matter what! There's lots of people here for me! ...But it is different with someone from home.

It's kind of important to have that, even when this place feels safe most of the time.
