[boy.....please survive........] Unfortunately I'm married to my work. [And to putting on devil-themed jumpsuits and beating up scumbags within an inch of their lives.] Unless going out and drinking with friends is a hobby.

I should introduce you to a friend of mine. He's a workaholic, too. [And, other things that will be uncomfortably similar in the near future.] Sounds like a fun hobby anyway. What kind of work do you do?

Lawyer, [Matt says, tiptapping around the stairs as they turn and twist so he doesn't trip. Well- okay, he won't trip anyway, but hopefully this makes the fact that he's managing to keep up with Prompto perfectly well look more plausible.] So I get to spend a lot of time sitting down and researching.

Ah. I guess the drinking with friends hobby makes sense then. [He sure would want to if his day job was sitting and researching.]

[Matt lets out a surprised laugh,] Hey! [u lil shit] Theoretically, the job pays well. Well-ish. [he's so broke] And you get to help the little guy once in a while, which I'll have you know is very rewarding.

Totally get wanting to help the little guy. [He is also intimately familiar with being broke.] We did it with less research and sitting, though. [Actually. He reconsiders.] Okay. A lot of sitting. We drove a ton. But I think the amount of walking and fighting and hunting we did balanced it out.

[Oh that's funny Matt does some fighting and parkour to balance it out too] Driving around, helping out the little guy? Sounds like an exciting life. Didn't expect a photographer to be part of that.

Honestly? Neither did I. [Though, in hindsight, he's pretty sure someone knew what was going down when they left Insomnia. He's not the brightest of the four, but given time, even he could put the pieces together.] It was supposed to be a road trip. But things started going downhill pretty much the moment we left home.

[Hmm...hesitation in his voice, slightly elevated heartbeat; not much, so it's probably just a little bit of anxiety associated with the topic. Downhill roadtrip doesn't really say much good either.]

Sounds rough. [Matt's not even going to pry, for once. His money's on the kid not even wanting to talk about it.] Did you at least get some good pictures out of it?

[There are some things he wouldn't mind talking about - the hunts, the camping, the chocobos, the caves, hell! even the fights with the Empire. There are other things he'd rather not. Some things he hasn't even told his closest friends. It wasn't so much downhill as a slope that dropped into a cliff, and no way to stop yourself from going over.

But bring up his favorite topic and he's vibrating with excitement.] Hell yeah, I did! Had to preserve the memories, right? Once in a lifetime experience and all.

[Because Insomnia was rubble. Altissia was rubble. The days were growing shorter, maybe disappearing forever. And then what?]

Sure, a picture speaks a thousand words. [It's nice hearing him so enthusiastic, too. People's voices change when they discuss something their passionate about; they get lighter, faster, choppier. It's nice.] Could you describe a couple of your favorites? I haven't always been blind, I could probably picture it in my head.

Oh, sure. [Though choosing one of the many is a tall order.] Oh, man. Well, there's this one. I convinced Noct to help me lure a catoblepas out of the lake with mushrooms for a closeup. And this thing is like, the size of a house, with tree trunks for legs. And like horns for a face! But I have this great shot of Noct posing like he just finished a dance move, you know, and this giant monster is towering over him.

A friend willing to die for a good shot is a friend for keeps, [Matt agrees with a snort. Did he and Foggy ever do anything dangerous together? Besides get drunk before midterms.] Question, is 'Noct' short for anything?

Sure is! [He laughs. It was a dumb stunt, but so worth it.] Yeah. Short for Noctis. Or Noctis Lucis Caelum if you want the long long version.

[Matt's eyebrows shoot up as he whistles.] That's a mouthful. You uh, you and your friend have some impressive names.

Are they? [Genuinely curious. They're just ... names.] I mean, Noctis, sure. I think there's some kind of rule the more important you are, the more complicated your name needs to be. [He can't even pronounce Luna's full name.] What are names like where you're from?

Oh, well, we've got our own impressive array to be sure, it's more that... [Matt stops climbing for a moment, feigning breathlessness as he leans a little on his cane.] ...well, they're Latin. Your names. Latin's a dead language where I'm from, but you tend to run into it as a lawyer so I did a little reading. It's just interesting, that connection between worlds that by all rights don't sound like they have much else in common.

Latin? Huh. Never heard of it. [Which makes sense, being from an entirely different world.

He doesn't move any closer, but he raises a hand somewhere behind Matt's back, just in case he suddenly needs help.]
