a - arrival (sept 22/23)

[After receiving the brief rundown from Sam about the situation with the Fleet and the planet, Kaname's remained alert. She's not one to dwell on what she can't change, so her time after that is spent either in the newly formed personnel room arranging whatever might be there, searching the kitchen, or exploring the cargo bay. Pretty much no matter where she is, a song can be heard, echoing softly. It's a murmured tune, more out of habit than any deliberate reason. Even if she runs into anyone, it won't immediately stop, but they will be greeted with a muted smile nonetheless.]

b - beyond (24 onwards)

[After the first couple days, the idol's more at ease, faster than someone not used to space travel might be. Sometimes she can be found in unusual places like the lab or bridge, looking at monitors and equipment to see if any of it might be familiar.

Otherwise, she can be found in the cargo bay, either working out on the treadmill or singing a few different songs. It's like she's used to practice.]

c - cooking (whenever)

[Gels and powders are questionable sometimes, and more than once Kaname will be sitting in the kitchen, smiling a little wistfully over a dish.]

I didn't think I'd miss jellyfish so soon.

[Ginko has been mostly in the lab since the disaster happened, organizing and cataloging what they have on hand and absolutely not hiding what are you talking about.

But hey, here's a new face. He vaguely remembers seeing a new name in the ship roster, but not what it was oops.]

Hey there, did you need something? Or were you just looking around.

[He offers her a friendly smile, no offense meant. He's just curious.]

[The voice catches her off guard, but not enough to startle her. Kaname looks up from a screen to see the smiling man, and she offers one back, nodding.]

Sorry about that, I was just looking to see how familiar it is to what I'm used to back home. There's not much for me to do until I get myself used to the ship.

[She walks over and holds out a hand.] Kaname Buccaneer. Nice to meet you.

It's fine, this place is open to everyone. I'm just... I guess you'd call me the medic.

[He returns her handshake, his grip firm without being crushing.]

Likewise. I'm Ginko, welcome to the Fleet.

Lab Support, wasn't it? Either way, thank you for the welcome, Ginko.

[Her own handshake is professional and practiced, but her sincerity is genuine. Once released, she glances around a little more.]

Still, what a time to arrive...

That's right, yeah. I've got a little training too, from before I got here. [If that makes her feel any better.] I'm not technically a doctor, though.

[When she looks around he goes back to his notes, writing a few lines for his own reference.]

Sorry to have to tell you this, but with these places there's rarely a good time to arrive.

[Though a planet being destroyed is exceptionally bad, admittedly.]

I figure many people aren't technically whatever role they've taken on here. [It doesn't bother her to begin with, as her statement might tell him.]

These places? [Now he has her interest. She looks over at him quizzically.]

Yeah... this isn't the first place I've been, uh... pulled to. [He almost said 'trapped' but that isn't technically true, here.] There are some others who have similar experiences, including a few people on this particular ship.

I'd say this place is better than the last one I was living in, but... well.

It's not? [Blue eyes widen at that, and it takes her a few moments to process it.]

I don't think I've thought about where other people are from yet. This isn't that foreign to me...

[She makes eye contact with him.] If you don't mind telling me, is this much different from the others?

Well... I've only been to one other place, so you'll have to ask other people if you want to know about where they might have come from.

[He makes another note before putting the paper he's working on in a drawer, then leans on his elbows to continue talking.]

...but I'd say the biggest difference is that there, we were stuck in one place. At least here we're able to travel around. To wherever the Fleet chooses to take us, but still.

Jellyfish? That sounds like a culinary challenge.

[Merlan is still pretty exhausted but she not passing up an opportunity to snag herself some tea. She moves to fill a cup with water and offers a smile.]

Well, what about there and here compared to your home?

[Kaname leans against a wall, looking at him curiously.]

Space travel's a given where I'm from, even fleets of ships.

[Kaname chuckles and looks over from her own dish of... something.]

Not for the people of Ragna. It's pretty much a diet staple there. [She pauses before clarifying.] That's the planet I lived on before arriving here.

[He chuckles softly.]

Oh no, we don't have anything like this back where I'm originally from. Getting out into space... most of the people I met during my work didn't even think about that possibility. If it ever happens--which at this point I guess I'm assuming it does--it's years away from happening. Maybe centuries.

And as for Edensphere... well, not having my memories was a big difference, I'd say.

Is your homeworld mainly water? [Merlan sits with a cuppa brewing, her eyes bright with curiosity.] I suppose my own is but I don't think I've ever had a jellyfish dish.

[She is forever curious about everything, especially aliens. She had always been fascinated with the concept. Besides, there's nothing non-humanoid about this woman that she can see.]

Oh, wow. [To her, the thought of living without the idea of space travel is almost impossible to wrap her head around, and she's good with most things.] I can barely imagine that.

[Which causes her to smile ruefully.] Which I guess is how some people here must feel at first.

[She listens when he mentions not having memories, growing more curious.]

It sounds like it. I should stop asking questions now, I don't want to be too nosy.

Oh, Ragna's not my home world, just where I've made my home. But yes, it is. The Ragnans have gills and fins and webbed hands. They live on land, but can breathe in water and are very agile there.

[Kaname lifts her forearm up to trace a shape in the air from her elbow to mid arm, closer to her wrist.]

Jellyfish is the planet's specialty.

Ah...so you've been to other planets? That's as amazing as the Ragnans, honestly.

[Merlan was so fascinated that she telekinetically wrung her tea bag out and set it on her plate.]

I think I'd love to meet them. They sound like a wonderfully adapted species.

[Merlan, once again, gets carried away with the questions.]

How do they prepare jellyfish? Is it just the cap that's eaten? And how do they deal with the stingers?

[She realises she just fired way too many questions and takes a sip of her tea.] Sorry. Too many questions.

Quite a few. Space travel's as standard as what apparently takes place here. A lot of it was for work, though.

[She blinks in confusion at the telekinesis but doesn't say anything. For all she knows, it might be rude.]

They are. I've got a few good friends among them. [It just causes her to chuckle and shake her head.]

Mm, no apologies necessary. And, pretty much as you would most other meat or fish. The entire thing is edible, and depending on the variety, they might not have stingers.

[Because aliens.]

28th - Bridge

[Nami didn't bother transferring back to the Bloodsport as the Fleet started drifting out of system. Bigby's defiance a year ago had taught her what would happen. She elected to stay on the station as long as possible, still offering refills.

So on the 28th, just before the station vanishes from view, she suddenly appears on the bridge looking ragged and greasy (and damp) and holding her staff in hand, blinking dizzily as she tries to adjust, because expecting it is one thing, but wow that's a... very sharp no-warning displacement. Sorry to anyone actually on the bridge. She probably doesn't smell great.

Don't be rude about it, she'll go take a bath. And probably fall asleep in it.]

[Following Days]

[Once she's slept, she'll surreptitiously check on the whereabouts of crew. Antisocial types don't need to worry; she's just wanting to make sure she knows where you are. No harassment, promise. After that, she throws herself back into work, so she's usually on the bridge or turning up back late from the bar as she gets everything back into a semblance of order.]

[Well, That's Suspicious]

[Much later into their drifting weeks when the waystations start coming up empty and kind of ominous, a brief announcement:]

In case you haven't seen for yourself, the stations nearby are deserted. Some of them in a hurry. Be on your guard, okay? [And then tiredly muttered before she drops offline:] Hell if I know what for. What, weren't we interesting enough?

[Cloud doesn't particularly enjoy literally any part of being a pilot, but he still comes in here to try and familiarize himself with the equipment just on the off chance that he'll have to do any actual piloting if Nami goes into a coma again.

What he doesn't expect is to see some unknown girl wandering around, which shows just how much attention he's been paying to his own ship and crew.] Uhhh, hey. Are you looking for somethin', or...?

[Yeah, guess who is on the bridge, this guy right here. Pacing around wondering if she'd been snatched to the Marvisa for another nap again, or if she'd just- just died down on the surface. Everybody else is here (he thinks) but Nami's nowhere to be found again and-]

Hey-! [-and there she is, looking like she's about to faint. Cloud takes a few quick steps forward and grabs onto her arms just in case she does faint.] What the hell was that, where'd you come from?

[Kaname looks up from a screen off to the side, offering a polite smile.]

No, not exactly. I wanted to see how similar the set up here was to back home. I'm not disturbing you, am I?

[Her question's sincere, indicating she'd leave if that was the case.]

[Well if she wasn't dizzy before she is now. Sudden teleportation is disorienting enough without sudden crew in her personal space and she pulls back her head a little, peering at Cloud with a confused look because what, why are you here and why are you touching me and-- oh, uh, question. Right. Ah.]

Ah. The other-- the space station. [What a trip. She shifts a little to try and get her balance, sounding dazed.] I guess we reached... maximum distance. It happens.

...you okay? [Because you sound urgent, is something terrible going on or something.]

[Nami comes to find her around the 29th, newly slept and refreshed and armed with the ship roster that says she got a new crew member in the interim. To be honest, once she hears singing echoing along the corridors from the bay she just assumes that that's where she needs to go. The only other person around here who sings sometimes is her. (In the shower. Shh.)

She also doesn't want to interrupt, so she'll find a seat on one of the wooden boxes in here and wait to be noticed.]
