I can't find her anywhere... And I checked all of the ship logs, she's nowhere to be found.

he wasn't saying anything before, but something about him changes and now he seems... quiet and withdrawn, just with the way he's holding himself. he sets his jaw while he thinks.]

She finally peeks up through her bangs at him, and sees the tension in his face. They were close too, probably even closer than she was to Hange.]
It's hard to imagine anyone else captaining this ship... [it's an idle thought, the first one that springs to mind. The Red Fish... she treasures this ship, but more the crew than anything else. The idea of Hange not being there is a bitter weight in the pit of her stomach and she hates it]
no subject
why would they take her? were they performing too well, too predictably? who will it be next? Coil? Nunnally, again? are they going to just keep pushing and pulling like this forever?
he punches the wall. it's really sudden, just a snarl and a sudden bang that reverberates down the hall. it rattles up his arm and into his shoulder, he can feel it. it's not--]
It's not fair.

That... [--looked like it hurt, is what she was about to say, but instead she bites on her lower lip, feeling the resonance of his words. It wasn't fair, and while she wanted to hope that maybe Hange was back in her compatriots at home that she missed so dearly.... Even that idea left a bitter taste in her mouth.]
You're right. [his clear emotions make her own feel more real, and she deliberately swallows to clear a slight lump in her throat] I hate... the way that they can toy with our lives so easily. So carelessly.

but the tension eases out of his fingers. he's still frustrated, but it's simmering under the surface. he's got it under control, for now. he doesn't want to hurt Nunnally, when her touch is so kind and she sounds so... she sounds the way that he can't put into words.
he wouldn't have been able to keep the snarling beast locked up in his chest if she was not so honest and soft with him, and it reminds him a little of... her, of course. so despite the uncertainty of his situation, one thing is clear to him:]
I won't leave.

But she also wants to protect this fragile new future. This little place where two strangers protected her and cared for her and she in turn wanted to do the same for them. A group that grew each day and became more treasured with every new companion. Not a family... but a team. And with the life she was blindly fleeing fading behind her, a team seemed far better than family.
And that's why those words also fill her heart with relief, let her release a breath tht she didn't know she was holding. She squeezes his hand lightly, careful not to irritate the red knuckles and looks up at him.]
I won't leave either, not again. [she looks serious. It's a heavy promise that has been rolling around inside for some time]
This ship... everyone on it will be alright. [she says it firmly, softly... with fierce belief. It must be true, she'll make it true if she has to.]

he's grown to like being here far more than he'd admit, after all.
he squeezes her hand back, gently, and nods in agreement.]
no subject
And it shows, a slight ease in the tension of her shoulders. And though there still sadness in her sigh, she tries to inject a slight tone of levity in it]
I feel sorry for whoever has to take her place. It will be quite impossible to fill her shoes.

trying to imagine any other members of their crew as captain... makes him set his jaw again, since he doesn't trust the new people and doesn't fully believe that any of the old crew would be a good fit.
...especially Coil. he'd be the literal worst captain.
he makes a noise in agreement and just hopes that it isn't him who gets picked.]
no subject
Maybe we should go to the medical lab? Your knuckles look really red...
[honestly, she's fussing. But she really does worry about him in the way that shows how much she cares]
no subject
he looks down at his knuckles. they're not that bad (he thinks), but... a momentary distraction would be nice, so he nods a little and heads in the direction of the lab.
they can play doctor for a second. it wouldn't hurt anyone.]

Just some ice, maybe? I'm not as knowledgeable about such things as Coil is. [haha...] Although he'd likely sign at me that I'm silly for fretting.
