[ He's fine, really. Maybe he's got a few bruises, but that's to be expected, and besides that, he's tough. He's been through a lot worse than some assholes trying to kidnap them for nefarious things. They handled it and the Vieziri didn't get to their armory. Carl's eye meets hers, and he gives her another reassuring smile. ]

Alive is a good thing to be.

[ Leaning in, Leilani touches her forehead to his, gentle and careful, lifting her hand to stroke through the back of his hair. It's a sisterly tenderness that comes without her thinking about it; it comes because it is part of being part of a clan, part of a group that takes care of one another, and that is what the fleet is. She is not ignorant of her own twisted emotions. ]

It is. [ She smiles, leaning back. ] You should take care to rest.

[ It's a closeness he's missed since everyone was picked off one by one. Maggie had gone first, and she'd been there with him since the beginning, so that was a hard blow. Daryl hadn't really warmed up to him, but he was still family, and he hadn't understood at the time what the man had been through to make him so cagey. Then his dad.. Sitting there at his bedside as much as he could for two months, hoping one day he'd wake up only for him to disappear. Carl thinks maybe that's better, because at least it's less painful and doesn't make him feel like he's twelve again, hoping a miracle would happen and his dad would wake up.

Carl huffs, raising his hand to touch lightly on the back of hers. Even though they haven't known each other long, he's done the dangerous thing and gotten attached. She reminds him so much of people he's lost in his life, that it's like having everyone back again in one body. ]

's what I'm doing. At least for a while. I still have to get everything else fixed.

[ It is difficult, to lose the ones you love - and Leilani has felt that time and time again. Separated from her clan, she had rebuilt her family with members of the Inquisition, gathering them around her as a rag-tag family of different people, minds and ideas, all come together to try and help save the world. As time went on, however, they had begun to drift away - back to their own lands, their own people, their own lives. Some had abandoned her forever. It wasn't easy, letting people slip away, but sometimes there wasn't a choice.

Her expression softens and she nods her head, letting her eyes run over him to check for wounds. There doesn't seem to be anything too serious, and that makes some of her tension bleed away into something almost relaxed. ]

When was the last time you slept properly?

[ He has to think about that question probably longer than he should. What does proper sleep even look like anymore? He's so used to having to fall asleep where he can and waking up at suspicious noises that it almost seems foreign. It's been a little easier since joining the fleet, but the past few months haven't been great. Carl looks away from her briefly before meeting her eyes again. ]

I sleep okay most of the time.

That did not answer my question, da'len.

[ Most of the time is not often enough, in her opinion, and she frowns a little. The fact that he looks away from her is enough to betray it as far as she's concerned and she shakes her head, leaning back to rest herself on the wall and watch him. She doesn't want to command him, or act as though she is somehow superior in some way - but she is concerned. She knows how it is to live without much sleep, after all. ]

You could take the time now.

No, I guess it didn't.

[ There's not really a reason for him not to. He trusts Leilani, and there's no threat for incoming, well, anything. It takes him a long moment to think about it before he nods and moves down the bed so he can lay down. His hat comes off, and he tosses it onto the desk. ]

Maybe for a little while?

[ Leilani watches him, fond for a moment, before she nods her head. All she does is settle a little so there's space for him, but not so that she's too far away. ]

I can wake you, if you like.

It's okay. It probably won't be for long.

[ Carl drops off fairly quickly, after that. After spending so long moving around and not knowing when they'd have to do it again, it was habit. He's always been good about being able to catch sleep where he could, though it was easier next to Judith. He still misses his sister terribly. ]
