1 - Mayoccia Plains
Who: Duke
Broadcast: Yes
Action: For Marsiva
When: Until shuffle-
The thing that bothers Duke most about waking up in a new place is that he woke up... cold. Space? Sure, but more important why can't he shake this chill with rubbing his arms a little.
So he stands and pulls his gloves more snugly up, and looks about. Sure. Space. First time he's seen it. He gives a small jump in place, and upon landing on the floor as normal - a click of metal heels, nods once and sits back on the bed.
So long as the gravity stays in play, he'll like this trip to space much better. Even if something has him fairly sure that 'trip to space' isn't right...
However, that is less important than the stupid cold. He did this to cups before, he can surely do it to a blanket.
The video clicks on as Duke pulled one of the blankets over, smoothing out the edge. He fishes in his pocket, frowns when he only comes up with a dark red spindle of thread, and sighs. Fine then.
Hopefully no one is too alarmed by the scent of singed cloth, because he sure is scorching some sort of angular pattern into the edge of the blanket, one red glowing symbol at a time.
"Well, this is working. That's a good mark for this place...."

And, to be fair, people who burned things were usually in her category of people.
Jinx pokes her nose through his door, hair swaying by her face.
Sup new guy?]
no subject
Or mostly focused. Duke takes a break, mostly just to shake the hand he'd been pressing the glowing symbols into the cloth with. ]
Do you know why it's cold? [ ... Yeah he's not looking up either. And hand shaken out, back to playing with fire. One long side is almost done. ]
no subject
She glances down at her sleeve-covered arms. Considers the air. Steps further into the room to peer over his shoulder.
Eventually she decides a head shake should probably cover her knowledge of this subject. No, she doesn't know why it's cold.
Whatchya doin'?]
no subject
He often didn't.
At the silent watching, he just.. continues burning symbols into the blanket. ]
Ever had a heated blanket? [ Yes he is a little stuck on why he feels cold. ]
no subject
Why, has he never had a heated blanket? This one doesn't have wires...
Was his power to make thing heated? Had he ever considered putting combustible things in objects, heating the objects, and throwing the objects at things? She bets it would be a really hand, destructive power.]
no subject
Then you could tell me if it actually feels warm. [ Since she's intending on standing here with him anyway-
Three sides done, one short one left. Hopefully nothing will catch fire. ]
no subject
That's what he wanted, right? To know if it was warm?]
no subject
With her hand there, she can probably feel it go from "sort of room temperature" to "might have been left near a fireplace" warmth.
Duke is realizing how much of a pain his lack of interest in talking could be. He does raise an eyebrow in question. ]
no subject
She bobbles her head a bit for a moment, and then nods. Yeah. It worked. It's warmer. She phases her hand inside the blanket to see if the weave feels any different from a normal blanket. Mostly the molasses-y feeling is just hotter.
Nod nod nod. Yup. Definitely warmer. She arches her brow at him. Can't he feel it?]
no subject
You are familiar with heated blankets. I've never had one. [ So he was testing whether the heat was right on her. It had just been a guess on a good temperature on his part.
He more or less tucks it over his shoulders now. Yeah nice and warm. ]
no subject
Really, though. How? There were no wires, and it seemed to need the shapes - but why? All the power she'd seen used had just... worked. Except for D'Arcy's. But hers had been less powers and much more some weird obsession with saying numbers and guessing outcomes.
Seems like she's gonna have to bite the bullet and actually ask.]
How?
no subject
[ Duke holds his hand out - the one on the other side from her - like he'd be holding an apple.
Instead, much smaller symbols rise out of his palm and work their way into a sphere, and then slowly move about in patterns through it. Glowing cheerfully a fiery red. There's just no heat to this one. ]
Unless you were asking for how this in particular works. That would take longer to explain. [ Congratulations, he's a mage. ]
no subject
Jinx had never though of things like that without the Boss Man pointing them out.
She leans across him a little, eyeing the floating ball closer and entirely ignoring his personal bubble. Phasing had made her very bad at recognizing things like personal space.]
no subject
How about... he just transfers that sphere to the hand closer to her, and hold it there until she gets bored. Or gives him another questioning look. It's more or less the same to him.
The more she stares at it, the more she might realize there are some math symbols in there from time to time, -, =, symbols closer together with a /. No simple X's, but there's something that looks close enough. ]
no subject
Raising a finger, she poked at the sphere of math, trying to discern feeling from it, much the way she had with his blanket.
Insides told you so much about a thing, you know.
In fact, she does send another questioning look his direction. Cue head tilt and quizzically furrowed brow.]
no subject
Okay time to figure out what he would mean by asking a question at this point. ]
This one needs to be on something to do anything.
no subject
Much fewer applications in that case. He must be frustrated with his limitations. It's okay, Jinx would be too. She shifts her frown into pursed lips, and then gives him a sympathetic look.
That's too bad, dude.]
no subject
Duke thinks a moment, then holds the other hand up.
This one is red and green. ]
I don't think a blanket that discharges lightning when touched would be useful.
[ That use of 'This one' was key. He has a lot of spells. ]
no subject
She blinks thoughtfully at the new math orb. How interesting, he can do it in different colors...
That's pretty cool actually. She smiles at him. Nice talent, bro.]
no subject
... Nothing I would want to sit on a bed with.
[ ... He'll let her believe he can only stick magic to things. He's not quite out of his "I prefer to be underestimated" mindset. ]
Would you like one? [ What else does he do with people hanging around him. ] ... A heated one.
no subject
Then she narrows her eyes at him in a suspicious glare. Nothing is for free, man. What's the catch here?]
no subject
No free things, then. If you wanted a heated blanket, what would you consider trade for it. On my part, it is merely time.
no subject
A glance around the room tells her that this is not particularly feasible. He need anyone dead? Anything stolen? Maybe someone followed?
Cuz she could totally do that. Otherwise she's shit out of usefulness.
A quick check of he pockets only turns up a few lollipops. She holds out one to him.]
no subject
The heat in the blanket won't last forever. Although I can recharge it if it does stop heating. Sweets in return for something that will go back to being mundane ... after a month or two? [ .. He's actually not sure how long it will keep heating. It might depend on how often it's used... ]
Does it sound fair to you?
no subject
She kind of wonders where she's gonna procure more sweets, because so far her exploration sure as hell hasn't turned up anything worthwhile. She refuses to call that sludge that came out of the machine candy. It is an affront to all things candy.
Nod nod nod. She agrees to your terms, sir! handshake to seal the deal?]
