The thing that bothers Duke most about waking up in a new place is that he woke up... cold. Space? Sure, but more important why can't he shake this chill with rubbing his arms a little.

So he stands and pulls his gloves more snugly up, and looks about. Sure. Space. First time he's seen it. He gives a small jump in place, and upon landing on the floor as normal - a click of metal heels, nods once and sits back on the bed.

So long as the gravity stays in play, he'll like this trip to space much better. Even if something has him fairly sure that 'trip to space' isn't right...

However, that is less important than the stupid cold. He did this to cups before, he can surely do it to a blanket.

The video clicks on as Duke pulled one of the blankets over, smoothing out the edge. He fishes in his pocket, frowns when he only comes up with a dark red spindle of thread, and sighs. Fine then.

Hopefully no one is too alarmed by the scent of singed cloth, because he sure is scorching some sort of angular pattern into the edge of the blanket, one red glowing symbol at a time.

"Well, this is working. That's a good mark for this place...."

If it helps, you can think of it as "preventing a need to fix those you're protecting", or even "enabling yourself to continue fixing others."

I never really thought of it that way. Most of my friends are soldiers, though- they usually end up protecting me, not vice versa. I have needed to protect an innocent before, though.

If circumstances arise where you don't have protectors, the thought may help. Or yes, if you are protecting those who can fight back even less than you.

Which has happened before- it's why I learned how to fight in the first place. It's generally accepted where I come from that it's over the line to attack any medics, but not everyone feels that way.

A difference, I suppose. Or at least, one of circumstances. If a healer-mage is on the field, they usually draw the most attention. Why a great deal put a little focus into offensive spells as well. Usually Light-based, so that attention is more visibly drawn, perhaps...

It's a sensible strategy, even if it does make my skin crawl- take out the healer, and your enemy can't recover from whatever damage your side can dish out. I'm glad it's something I've not had to worry about too much, but then, my world doesn't have magic, only weaponry. Both sides would be hurting if their medical help was shot dead right off the bat.

Hmm. Those who don't pick up offense do tend to stick as far away as possible - and they would be captured rather than attacked.

I'm firmly on the "far away as possible" side myself. I have some very tough friends, but I prefer to let them do the combat and stay behind to be there when they come back with injuries.

[ Duke just gives an absent hum. This topic was getting a little less than interesting, and he doesn't really want to direct it onto how he would deal with these situations, so!

Picking up the edge of that blanket and appling magic some more. ]
