[He actually did enjoy fighting and killing as many of the hostiles as he could. Having half of his crew stranded down below hadn't been that great though.]

They may be defeated, but if this universe has more enemies like that, we should be prepared. Been thinking of getting a sparring club together. My focus is on swords, obviously, but if you wanna do archery, guns, staves, whatever, I'm up for it. I can take and dish out a lot of punishment, so only people who aren't afraid of gettin' bruised up need apply.

That makes sense. It's unfortunate. A lot of spirits I know get displaced because of modern things. There's a dozen or more living in my house alone because they have nowhere to go.

if swords could survive the edicts, then they were generally kept as treasures and survived
but new ones aren't being made and treasured anymore so there's less of us around
it's good of you to give 'em a place to go though
the saniwa summoned us to fight in the war and that was good enough for me
but I know a lot of other swords appreciated havin' a home again

I'll remember that when I go back home. I can't do much but the gods are really good at finding loopholes to make things work. And it's the least I can do for them, besides there's no humans in my house to chase them out so it works really well for all of us.

[Humans used to revere and make offerings to spirits. Now they just exorcise them and forget, or make up stories about how they're all evil, ignoring that they became that way because of mistreatment usually.

He still bears the scars of his battles and the treatment of his former "masters," and sometimes when he's particularly bereft of things to do, he remembers what each scar came from. It isn't a fun thing to do.]

It's part of my job. There's a couple of us that live as humans, have been for years now. It's so we can protect us and humans better.

That's the short explanation. The longer one is boring and too hard to type out.

There's three others doing the same thing I am, one of them is a tanuki. We're posing as a human family so the neighbors don't get suspicious. Well, more suspicious.

There's a kappa, a keukegen, a zashiki-warashi . . . a couple of spirits attached to old objects from their lives who haven't passed on yet. It's kind of crazy there.

Doudanuki feels his stomach drop at the mention and he stares at the screen for a bit. He always hated that stupid nickname, but now it's like a shot through the heart to hear the word again. It's not like it's directed at him though, and not like anyone here would ever think of calling him one. No one but his saniwa and the other swords even knew that name before he changed back to his old pronunciation of his name.]

Sounds like a busy house. Zashiki-warashi is good luck though - weird that people wouldn't want it around.

Anyway, did you want to train now? Are there practice swords around that I could borrow?

Not here, but in the Iskaulit gym there are. Just wood, sadly. Would've been nice to go up against someone with a Muramasa blade again.

I'll give you an IOU. Who knows, maybe they'll send me my sword down the line.
