Canon Updates Can Be Hard to Do

[After Lance left, Keith came out of his room to refamiliarize himself with the ship. It was a strange feeling. He knew it hadn't been as long as he thought it was, but he had so much new stuff crammed into his head. What felt like months, maybe a whole year, while he was only gone for maybe a week? It was a strange sensation.

Shipmates would first notice that he wasn't wearing the familiar white and red armor, but something darker... black with purple, and it had a hood he could pull up over his head. He still had the Paladin armor, as it had remained in his room during his disappearance, but he no longer felt right wearing it.

He visited the bridge (the pilot station), the lounge, and a few other places. He found the wrapped gift in the cargo bay.

He wasn't sure how to feel about it, but it was definitely his knife. He attached the sheath to the back of his belt in its usual place, intent on heading out with no word to anyone about it.]

Iskaulit

[Keith spent most of his time on the Iskaulit in the gym, working with his new gift... a large dagger that had a glowing emblem on the hilt. He seemed frustrated by something about it as he worked with it.

Outside of the gym, he visited the lecture hall to check on the information stash, and he also stopped by The Melting Pot for some food. Eventually, he wound up at Team Voltron's Lion's Den, but he hovered at the door, uncertain about entering.]

[Snowmobiles? Racing? Consider it done. Keith was using the speed and racing to clear his head. In some ways, it worked even better than physical training. The idea of letting everything go from his mind to focus on not crashing was a good way to get his head on straight, right? Plus, it was almost symbolic the way the wind from racing along blew away all his cares.

That didn't mean he wasn't up for a race or two. In fact, he relished the idea of doing it, taking on challenges that might seem a little crazy.]

Not at all. Though you may need to warn him about- oh wait, he's on the Blameless, isn't he?

[with Edna and Eizen. the name is vaguely familiar anyway, though they've never formally met.]

Yeah. And he's been around here before. I think he knows about you guys even if he hasn't met any of the crew over here, yet.

Edna thinks he's dumb, but I think she thinks everyone is dumb.

[Keith shrugged a little.]

You're not wrong. But if she takes the time to tell you that, there's a chance she might actually like you a bit, so try not to worry about it.

[Keith shrugged a little.]

It doesn't bother me. I've had people call me worse things before.

[He just remembered her getting all huffy about how things went with Katie because Keith had the "nerve" to tell her to hurry up. Granted, he probably didn't have to, but... well, he tended to react to stress by getting frustrated and snappish towards others. So, he honestly didn't blame her for getting huffy at him.]

Oh, she'll find worse. That's sort of her thing.

[wait till she gets on the nicknames for you guys.]

And you're sure that's not because she hates us?

[tsunergy]

Of course I'm not sure. She could very well hate all of you- she hates a lot of humans. It's nothing personal, she just has a lot of history there.

[He says it nonchalantly, but with a touch of sympathy; it's the sort of hate that's difficult to shrug off, is all. Surely Keith would understand that.]

But it's less likely if she gives you any chance to get to know her, so put the effort in and she'll probably come around. In... her own way.

[Keith probably understood more than Mikleo knew. He's seen it firsthand, and been the target of it before. That didn't necessarily make it easier to deal with, but he at least knew it wasn't completely personal. He nodded.]

Well, I'll make sure to give her space if she needs it. It'll be alright.

[After all, Allura came around. Edna might at some point, too. Keith just wouldn't hold his breath or anything.]

Yeah, you'll be fine. This is your home too- she's the one who decided to move here. I'm sure you two can sort yourselves out, and after this long, Lance can probably look after himself as well.

[Edna... well, if there's trouble, he can talk to her, but she's a big girl. She doesn't need - nor is she likely to appreciate - his fussing.]

I don't know how much you've noticed since we arrived, but Lance and I weren't always on great terms, either. [Keith shrugged.] He positioned himself as my rival or something, and we just kind of always argued back home. So, yeah. I know how that goes.

[tsunergy]

Well, there you go. We'll just have to see how it works out.

[He's not gonna hold his breath, but who knows- Edna is a fickle creature and even when she shows affection it's difficult to pin it as such. As long as they're not trying to kill each other he's fine with whatever happens.]

[For a moment, Keith looked a little surprised and almost said something, but he stopped himself and just offered Mikleo a small smile.]

I think I'll just take a few days to myself to start. Trying to reconcile how long it's been here vs how long it was back home, it's a little convoluted in my head.

[That, and well... Keith remembered seeing the thing with the dragon in Mikleo's calibrations room. He wasn't sure if he was steady enough not to bother the seraphim on the ship too much.]

I can imagine. I went through much the same thing when it happened to me- I "went home" for months but it'd only been a few weeks here, and an awful lot had happened in that time. It's hard to shake that feeling.

[His tone is deliberately neutral, but there's a wavering of secret sadness in his eyes. Suffice to say it wasn't much fun for him either.]

Take as much time as you need.

[Keith nodded in thanks.]

I'll get back into things soon. It shouldn't be long.

[He managed a small smile in return, though, much like Mikleo, it didn't quite reach his eyes.]

I appreciate it.

[He turned.]
