Canon Updates Can Be Hard to Do
Who: Keith, OTA
Broadcast: None
Action: Huntress, Iskaulit
When: Starting Dec 16, through to the end of the month
Huntress
[After Lance left, Keith came out of his room to refamiliarize himself with the ship. It was a strange feeling. He knew it hadn't been as long as he thought it was, but he had so much new stuff crammed into his head. What felt like months, maybe a whole year, while he was only gone for maybe a week? It was a strange sensation.
Shipmates would first notice that he wasn't wearing the familiar white and red armor, but something darker... black with purple, and it had a hood he could pull up over his head. He still had the Paladin armor, as it had remained in his room during his disappearance, but he no longer felt right wearing it.
He visited the bridge (the pilot station), the lounge, and a few other places. He found the wrapped gift in the cargo bay.
He wasn't sure how to feel about it, but it was definitely his knife. He attached the sheath to the back of his belt in its usual place, intent on heading out with no word to anyone about it.]
=====
Iskaulit
[Keith spent most of his time on the Iskaulit in the gym, working with his new gift... a large dagger that had a glowing emblem on the hilt. He seemed frustrated by something about it as he worked with it.
Outside of the gym, he visited the lecture hall to check on the information stash, and he also stopped by The Melting Pot for some food. Eventually, he wound up at Team Voltron's Lion's Den, but he hovered at the door, uncertain about entering.]
=====
Planet
[Snowmobiles? Racing? Consider it done. Keith was using the speed and racing to clear his head. In some ways, it worked even better than physical training. The idea of letting everything go from his mind to focus on not crashing was a good way to get his head on straight, right? Plus, it was almost symbolic the way the wind from racing along blew away all his cares.
That didn't mean he wasn't up for a race or two. In fact, he relished the idea of doing it, taking on challenges that might seem a little crazy.]

[He restarted the engine as she got on, waiting just long enough for that nudge, and then took off, heading around the circuit in reverse in case Prompto had stalled or something and was coming up along the way to catch up. Keith spotted the tracks about the same time as he heard Kaname shout and saw her arm extend out to point. He nodded, following them along to the machine. He stopped, shutting it off, and then got up to check it out.]
It doesn't look damaged...
no subject
Keith, look. [She's in front of the place his camera was mounted. It's gone, too, and it appears to be manually removed.]
And there are footprints over there. [A nod to the trees and the tracks entering into them.] There's no way to get there besides on foot. Let's go.
no subject
Sure enough, after a bit of a hike, they found him there, crouched low, camera pointing at something. Keith paused just long enough to follow the line of sight and...
WAS THAT A QUIZNAKING BEAR?
He froze in place.]
Uh...
[Whispering...]
Hey... Prompto... don't you think we're a little close?
no subject
But then he hears Keith and he tenses. Ah, shit. The race! How long had he been gone?
Eyes on the bear, he raises a hand.] Shh-shh-shh...
[But the bear must notice something has changed, because it makes snuffly kind of sound and turns their way, and then it makes a louder sound that doesn't seem very happy.] U-umm... Shit.
[Very, very slowly, Prompto backs away from his hiding place.] How fast are those things?
no subject
Once Prompto's backed away enough, she blindly reaches out to grab his sleeve and tug him closer to them as she takes a step herself.]
Probably faster than any of us want. [Voice hushed and nervous, the singer doesn't dare look away from it.]
Stay calm, and don't make any sudden movements.
[The words are for herself as much as the boys, given her grip on his sleeve's tightened into a fist.]
no subject
[Wildlife wasn't really his thing...]
Slowly...?
no subject
The bear seem interested in following though, which makes Prompto want to move a little faster than slowly. He makes a worried kind of sound in the back of his throat and looks back. How far away did he park the snowmobile? Too far to be any good at present.]
Is this working? I dunno if this is working.
[No sudden movements is hard when his every instinct is screaming to bolt or pull his guns from the armiger and fire away.]
no subject
They can all very likely tell this.]
It's not working. [Kaname's the one who voices it, adding a decisive action they're all eager to try.] Run.
[Without skipping a beat, she turns back around and makes a break for it... at least as fast as she can in the snow. (It's not as fast as she wants).]
They're off to the left!
[It's a general reminder to the group where the snow mobiles are parked, sadly, still out of sight.
And then a roar from behind tells them how close the creature's getting.]
no subject
Prompto! You have any weapons on you?
[Keith had his knife, but... well... that was a bear.]
no subject
He dropped his camera - it vanished - and opened his hand, accepting the heavier weight of his gun. It was something he'd picked up on one of the previous planets, and tweaked a little more to his liking, but still not as powerful as what he had back home. It would do. There were a couple more stashed away where this one came from (one of the security guns, something he'd raided from Tyrion's stockpile, a couple blasters he'd taken off those cannibals back on the hell planet.)]
Yep!
[He was 90% ranged fighter, which meant keeping some distance between himself the bear gaining ground on them. Simply turning around wasn't going to work. So he dove to the side instead. By the time he rolled and spun around, he had a clear view of the bear's side, so he fired.
Boy, that sure did piss it off and not kill it.]
Uh, I'm not the only one with the weapon, right? Guys?
no subject
Kaname looks around hurriedly for something she can use to... what, exactly? It's not like she's a fighter, not the type they currently need. Working off pure adrenaline, she finds a rock roughly the size of her palm. She breaks away from the other two in a direction with no one around before hurling it as hard as she can at the bear's head.
Bullseye.
A growl of pain can be heard as it directs its anger at the singer, barreling towards her and quickly closing the distance. Kaname jumps to the side and is propelled farther away by a burst of energy from under her jacket, allowing her to skid safely to a stop a little more out of its range and call back to the others.]
I... I think I can draw its attention after you take a shot! Maybe enough confusion to its senses can give us a chance to figure something out!
[Another roar rings out as the bear turns to face her again, moving to charge, as she starts singing.]
no subject
He frowned a bit, and then shook his head at Prompto.]
Nope.
[Keith pulled his knife, really annoyed that he had been having trouble activating it lately, but that would have to put to the side for the moment. He had been working at getting better with it anyway, so his fighting skill and style had actually changed from what it was before Team Voltron up and disappeared (and Hunk passed out into a week long coma...). Plus, it was still a pretty impressive dagger even when it wasn't a sword.
He would have to trust Prompto's aim, but he's worked with someone covering him like this before. Lance was a lot better than Keith was sometimes willing to let on.
The weird marshmallow snow did slow him down and messed with his agility and speed, but he did still get in some good hits and was able to barely dodge getting sliced open with those claws. That said, each person contributing to the fight seemed to draw the bear's attention towards them for a few moments after each hit before it turned to face the next attacker. They were confusing it and making it hard for it to go after any particular one of them.]
no subject
He had to switch to the laser gun, which didn't have as much oomph, no kick back, but it also didn't run out of bullets.
The bear was slowing down. Staggering more than lunging.]
Doing good, guys!
no subject
Still, something does come to her once she's positioned in front of a pine tree (or a tree that looks like one) with a large trunk. While Keith keeps it occupied, she scrounges in the snow for another rock to throw, and upon finding one, stops singing to yell to the boys.]
Stand clear, and let me draw it in! [Explaining would take more breath than she's willing to expend right now, they just need to trust her while she really hopes this works. Not giving them a chance to ask, Kaname hurls the rock at the bear as Keith's out of the way, following up with a snowball when it turns on her.
Its attention gotten, a bright glow surrounds her and moves up her figure, clothes changing with it to a show costume very out of place in the snow. But the sudden lights and colors draw it towards her with another burst of speed. Counting down to beats of a song, Kaname jumps up, propelled by the thrusters of her undersuit, and grabs on to a branch above, letting the bear run head long into the trunk. It wobbles for a few long moments before finally slumping down in the snow.
And above, she hangs there, looking warily down at it, breathing heavily.]
no subject
That said, though, he was glad that Prompto was a crack shot after all, and was keeping the bear occupied and taking what hits he could get.
And then... Kaname...
When the bear turned and charged at her, Keith was alarmed, forgetting for the moment about those rockets in her outfit, even though she had shown it to him shortly after she'd gotten it. But, she jumped, using the boosters to get her high enough to grab that branch. As the bear crashed into the tree and knocked itself out, Keith breathed a sigh of relief.]
Heh... good one.
[He let Prompto go catch her if she needed it, instead looking around at where they were now to figure out where the snowmobiles were. He recognized the treeline in the direction back towards the track, and, sure enough, he could see them off in the distance.]
no subject
That doesn't stop his heart from lodging in his throat when Kaname eggs the bear into charging her. The lights and colors and costume change don't distract him from pushing into a run, even as she propels up into the tree. (Is that even warm?)
He skids to a stop by the bear, gun still drawn and trained on it, and gives it a tentative shove with his boot to make sure it's out for good. Then he looks up.]
You okay? Do you need help down?
no subject
I'm all right... just extremely relieved that worked. [She takes another moment to look down then nod.] If you don't mind. I'd like to avoid landing on the bear, no matter how unconscious it might be.
[She waits for him to put his gun away or whatever he might need to do before she lets go of the branch. A quick burst from the thrusters gives her enough of a push from the tree towards Prompto, where she reaches out to brace herself.]
no subject
[He drops his gun, letting it shatter into the armiger, and braces to catch her. And when he loses his footing and falls backwards, the snow catches them both.]
S-sorry. Didn't land on the bear, though!
no subject
No, but it might've been softer. Still, thanks. [It's a weak attempt at humor. Kaname begins to brush the snow off her, remaining seated and looking for Keith.]
Hey, are you all right? You were pretty close to the sharp parts of that thing.
no subject
Yeah... it didn't get me.
[He came over, sliding his knife back into the sheath, and offered them each a hand up.]
Fighting in sticking marshmallow snow is definitely a new experience, though.
no subject
[He accepts Keith's help up and swipes as much of the snow off his clothes as he can.]
We should get out of here, before something else bad happens.
no subject
She opens her mouth to agree until an idea strikes her. Glancing over at the bear, it still looks to be out cold. A small smile makes its way on to her face.]
You sure you don't want a photo of this? At least I think what we did's pretty memorable.
no subject
Yeah... good idea.
[But- what? Did she just-? Keith paused and turned back.]
Really? What if the camera flash wakes it up?
no subject
Don't gotta use flash. There's enough light.
[He snagged Keith's sleeve to give it a little tug before skipping - as well as one can skip - closer to the downed bear.]
C'mon. Selfie!
