Action: One ALL fleet ships except The Tourist and The Three Twins

Cole doesn't like the communicators. He finds it too disorientating to talk to people and have that vast distance between them.

Instead, he's setting out to visit each of the ships and meet the people on board. He likes people and he likes meeting and talking with people and he'd far rather do that face to face.

Don't worry. He doesn't take up much space and he takes up no supplies. He just wants to meet people.

But... he gives The Tourist and The Three Twins a wide berth. Fenris had been very clear that he was not to see Cole again and Cole will respect that by avoiding the places he seems to be.

Anyone from those ships will have to be visitors somewhere else to run into Cole.

Sometimes. It depends. Some people hurt others to try and feel better, so I can try and unpick what makes them feel that way.

Some people just like hurting others. It's fun to them.

I stop them. I kill them. I make it quick and clean, no suffering.

...Oh.

Well that's...something.

[Awkwardly hunching his shoulders a little. He realises, of course, that once he gets home, he will have to face this. Chakal won't just...let the people of San Angel go. He's going to have to neutralise the threat. Permanently.

He doesn't know if he has it in him, and that worries him. ]

[Cole's face softens with empathy and he comes closer, not touching and making himself smaller by crouching, non-threatening.]

I know it's frightening, but sometimes... there isn't a better way to stop the hurt. The important thing to be clean and quick. Know what you're doing, so there's no suffering. Be kind in killing, like you would for your food. And only do it when other ways don't work.

It's all right to scared, and not want to do it.

[His heart sinks to his stomach. Clean and quick. That's what his father kept telling him, to finish a bull. Make sure it isn't a mess, and the crowd will love you for it. ]

[He closes his eyes briefly.]

The bull has done nothing. It shouldn't be tormented and killed for the amusement of others. It's not the same.

I wouldn't want to hurt the bull either.

[He really...should have expected that, but surprise still registers across his features, before relaxing into a strange mix of sadness and relief. ]

I'm glad to hear that, amigo.

Maybe one day everyone will know that.

I don't understand people who hurt animals. I know you have to kill animals, that's part of life. People need to eat. Animals kill each other to eat.

But hurting them... I don't understand it.

They do it for sport. Entertainment. [His tone is full of disgust. It's a long, honoured tradition for his family and look where it got them all. He loves his family, more than anything, but he can't be them. He can't do that.]

It's pointless.

[Cole looks slightly angry about it, but not shocked. He's rarely shocked by what people can do to each other and animals.]

I would tell them it was wrong.

[That gets a wan smile.]

At least that makes two of us.

Cadash believed that all that was needed was one person to stand up and say no and others would follow.

María is better at that sort of thing than me. She could lead the country, if she got it in her head to do it.

Some people are leaders. Cadash was a leader. Jove is a leader.

There's nothing wrong with not being one either.

Yes. Support is important too. People sometimes forget that.

Who else will be there when the great leaders need a shoulder to lean on, hmm?

A leader needs people to lead.

Shoulder to cry on, hands to hold them up, butt in the seat next to them sliding over a tankard...

[That gets a chuckle.]

Yeah, make them feel like they're not lost in the world. That they're doing good.

Everyone likes to be supported. It's nice, to know someone is with you and believes in you.

[His voice is softer, sadder briefly.]
