[Not long ago she’d been considering the best way to handle Winn’s birthday now that he’s gone and all. She considered enlisting a close friend or two to be on duty for support or distractions or just barricading herself in her room and feeling it and dealing with that. In the end she went with booze. Lots and lots of booze.

When she turns the feed on she’s lying down on a series of three chairs, holding the communicator above her head.]

Did I ever tell you about the time I was in Marina—the underwater prison place—and this tiny alien or robot or possibly dog man thing took over and made it rain fruit punch and then made us dance in a dance marathon and if we didn’t he was going to put us in a room with a moose. And I’m not drunk! [She laughs like she just said something very funny.]

No, no, I mean I am drunk but it’s also true. It was a very strange place. Did you know you had to get a wristband if you wanted to have sex with someone? Yeah. It was like being at a bar and wanting drink. [Speaking of wanting to drink. She looks around for her bottle and then lifts herself up enough to achieve drinking.] Oh! And then it was like enforced monogamy where you could only be with your band partner.

Wristband. Not like music band. You didn’t have to have sex with the person you played the flute with. [More laughing.]

What was I…? Oh, yeah, do you know I haven’t kissed anyone in moooonths? Yeah. Like May. May 10th. [Winn disappeared May 11.] In the prison you couldn’t do that because every two months—if they were months—they would send out these mistletoe robots that would make you kiss someone or lots of someones. Usually lots of someones. They had shrinking forcefields and confetti. I had to kiss a guy without lips once. Did I mention it was a weird place?

Yeah, what emotions ever do for anyone? [Except make her extremely happy when he was still around.]

Make ya feel like ya the center of someone's world, that 'ny bad could easily be over come when ya got the feelin' of light in ya chest, 'nd that puttin' up with all the merde in life be suddenly so much easier compared to if they weren't there.

[It isn't overly clear if Remy is referring to emotions in general, or to a person who caused them, though whatever it was it did cause him to pick up that bottle once more, feeling the need to join her in misery drinking now.] Then like havin' ya heart ripped out, or a knife twisted in ya back. One or both. [Opening the bottle and taking another drink before he realized he was starting to spiral himself, and that wouldn't help either of them.]

Like all things, petite, when it good ya feel like ya on top of the world, but Luck 'nd the universe is never that kind to keep it 'round for long. Ya can either dwell in that, or try 'nd look forward 'nd hope something else can take it's place, with time.

Right... That stuff. [And she's not the only one going through this. It feels like Remy is speaking from experience and even if he's not, she's sure she didn't invent love or loss. This is what all the movies and all the songs are about, right?]

How do I move forward knowing he might come back? There's never been a lot of certainty in my life but there was some kind of linear progression before all this. [She also would have been dead without "all this.]

[Yeah, that stuff. It sucks, doesn't it?]

Well, far as I see, ya got a few options.

One, ya could just go wild, drink 'nd sleep 'round 'nd do 'nything that takes ya fancy at the time 'nd screw all the consequences of it 'nd just keep runnin' 'way from them when they rear their ugly heads. [Guess which one he chooses to do.]

Two, ya stay stuck in the past, keep thinkin' 'what if' 'til something happens, or doesn't, 'nd just keep repeatin' that cycle 'til the end of ya time here, however that comes.

'nd three, ya take it how it's dealt. Good 'nd bad. Try 'nd 'njoy every day, those that 'round ya, those that love ya here. Try do right by yaself 'nd others, 'nd learn to accept that maybe, after a certain time, ya do gotta keep goin' 'nd movin' on, even if there be a chance the came back.

[This was all so very heavy.] Though, considerin' who ya gettin' advice from right now, ya might already be makin' bad choices by listenin' to me. [A hint of a smile sent her way, after all, laughing at a topic was so much easier than dealing with real emotions.]

[It's okay, Remy. She always knew you had this in you, self-deprecating humor aside.]

I used option one with Piotr back in Marina. I was mad at him and somehow it felt like I was punishing him while I was also trying to escape. It ended badly.

I used option two with Reid back in Marina. He was my first real love after Piotr, but it went sideways when he disappeared and came back with more memories. Memories of someone else he loved and lost. He never seemed to look at me the same way again, but I couldn't let go and it just made things harder.

I've been trying to do three with Winn... But one and two are a hell of a lot easier. [And when so much of your life has been about holding on through impossible odds it's surprisingly hard to know how and when to let go.]

I noticed. [He lifted the bottle he had borrowed off her into her field of vision again, using it to help his point before putting it down again.]

Maybe a bit of a mix then, a little dash of one, a pinch of two now and then, mix it all together with a big side of three. May work.

Then 'gain, talk of such things always be so much easier than doin', non? Same with commitments the night before in the light of a new mornin'.

Hey, I did hold out for seven...eight...months before I got to the drunk and disorderly portion. I did that immediately after I realized Piotr killed me. And I still haven't slept with anyone evil this time around. So...bonus points for me.

Or anyone nice either. No sleeping at all. Unless you count actual sleeping since I've been sleeping with Kurt a lot. And Pavel and Tyrion a little. [She pinches her finger as if to show Remy what "a little" means.]

Well ya quite a fine drunk if this be disorderly for ya. [A little bit of a smile that was siding towards a smirk with that joking.] 'nd, well, evil really has a lot of grey shades to it. [Offering a raised brow and a shrug to her.]

Thing be, if that's what helps ya, petite, then let it. 'long as it ain't hurtin' ya or others, ain't an issue. Lot to be said for just havin' someone there without needin' a connection, or at least just a friendly one rather than romantic.

Oh, he was shady alright.

[She tips her head.] If I didn't know any better I'd almost think you were volunteering. [Does she know better?]

[Remy chuckled at her confirmation, before dropping it as he raised a brow at her. He opened his mouth to answer, then stopped, and started again.] I mean, I wasn't meanin' to. Ya m' friend first 'nd foremost, Kitty, as lovely a femme as ya be.

[Though.] Though, if ya do need a volunteer... [Another pause, as if letting those words settle into a serious silence. Before Remy grinned over at her. But even then, it was tough to tell how serious he was being with the comment.]

[She laughs because it was a playful way to say it, basically angling for a laugh. And she laughs to defuse the seriousness that lives in the pause that follows. And, of course, she laughs because the thought makes her nervous. Because she's not really ready to move on even if part of her is longing for it and because he's a friend and because she can't say he's not attractive. But complicated. Everything still feels very complicated. Maybe that's on her, but it's still how it feels.]

That's what I like about you. Such a team player.

Yes, because when I am goin' for a job 'nd they ask me how to describe m'self, I always lead with that. [Hey, laughter was good, and what Remy always tried to aim for. It both helped hide scars and repair them, either a distraction or to make a topic feel less serious than it really was.

And Remy had no issue acting the fool if it helped a friend.]

I'd expect nothing less from you. The X-Man who isn't an X-Man. [And for what it's worth she doesn't see him as foolish.]

Yeah, yeah. [So he is kept being told. And hey, maybe if the X-Men were more like the Kitty and Kurt here, sure, he would consider it more seriously and have less doubt about it. But they weren't, they were... teens. Young. In so many ways.] 'm a real prize. The best. Everyone would want me on their team. [And look what you started, Kitty.]

[It's true. She and Kurt are the cool kids. Everyone wants to hang out with the damaged mutants from the broken world, not the adorable teen versions.]

You say that with sarcasm, but you were a good teammate back home. Or our Remy was. It's harder to figure out how to talk about alternate realities when drunk. Not so easy sober either.

[Remy went to speak, to point out he was here to try and cheer her up and help her through whatever she was going through, not to help his ego, but if this acted as a distraction to get her mind off it then he could do that. So he cut off anything he was planning to say about that and focused on the current topic.] What ya mean? Wasn't sarcasm at all, I am 'mazin'.

'nd one day I might come close to bein' as good as I say I am.

Ahh, I've given up tryin' to figure out how to word that all correctly, ain't no point. Just a big mess that well 'bove m' level of understandin' it, 'nd in the end ain't like it changes much for us.

Okay, don't brag too much either. You only teamed up with bad guys. [But she wouldn't call him a bad guy. Doesn't even occur to her. She smiles fondly at him.]

Until now. [They're kind of a team—the Twin Roses. All the current mutants in the fleet and the rest of the crew.]

Hey, that ain't true! I worked with the X-Men before, though, that was Mag's call. 'nd it was tryin' to stop Apocalypse from wakin' up, 'nd we didn't really stop that, but I did still. That 'nd with Rogue that one time. [Though... he had kidnapped her, did that still count?]

One time with Rogue, huh? [Was it a sexy team up?]

[Well, it did involve some rope tying and her grabbing his staff...] Ahh, yeah, in a way. [Was he really going to admit this? Then again... it was Kitty, and it was so long ago now, and he was pretty sure Rogue had forgiven him by now, even if she would still use it as fuel against him as it was needed.]

I, kinda, kidnapped her and... took her down to New Orleans to help out with something. [So no, not really sexy, no.]

[She gives a surprised laugh.] You kidnapped her? How did you get out of it without her murdering you? [She's pretty sure it was charm. No offense to his prowess.]

Not m' smartest move, I will admit, but did work out. [In a lot of ways, even if it would take them both meeting up in Luceti to see out part of it, to create and grow that friendship of theirs.]

She helped me save m' father, said, 'Ya just did the wrong thing for the right reason.' [His accent slipping away to something a bit closer to Rogue's own for that quote before returning to his normal one.]

Did almost get skewered by Wolverine for it though. [Remy raised a hand to rub at his throat.] Got a bit closer to those claws than I ever wanted to.

It's a good thing she grades on a curve like that. Logan is another story. [She doesn't exactly know what to do with memories of Logan at this point. He was her mentor. A father figure when she was fresh out of parents. And according to Kurt he became Apocalypse at the end and slaughtered everyone who was left. But the reasons he took that up weren't bad hearted either. There's just a lot of gray back home and not much else. As it is, she'll try to stay in breezy casual mode. They aren't even talking about her Logan.]

So, your father, hmm? I don't remember my Remy ever really talking about his parents much. [Maybe to spare her from thinking about her own.]

Maybe he was as wonderful as m' own. [There was a lot of sarcasm there and even a roll of his eyes before Remy shook his head to get past those thoughts.]

Sure it was nothin' personal, petite, not talkin' 'bout him. Might be he lost him durin' ya war, or just wasn't worth mentionin'. [Remy... really wasn't sure how he felt about the idea of losing Jean Luc, even hypothetically. Sure, they didn't get on well, or even at all now days, but... the man was still his father and Remy hated the idea of losing him.]

No offense taken. A lot of people didn't like talking about how it was before. It just made the moment harder usually.

I'm guessing it was complicated with your dad? [She won't push more than that. If he doesn't want to talk about it she'd understand.]
