Anyway if you’re up for it and you wanna get timed or something, I got prizes. Nothing cool but like hot chocolate tins and junk like that.

[Okay now Cloud’s walking so there is an unflattering angle of his face occasionally as he trucks through the snow to get his own snowboard.] -oh right, I wanted a general opinion on something. What’s, uh, what’s the best birthday gift you ever got? [Specifically a question for girls but he’s afraid he’ll be REALLY obvious if he says that.]

I'm not looking for anyone or anything specific, I was just wondering. People ask random questions on this thing all the time.

Sentimentality seems like a big factor.

No, not a gun! I meant something like a charm with some protective magic, or something like that, not a weapon.

Oh. [so like an accessory] I dunno, could you even get something like that here? Everything's all tech, I haven't seen hardly any magic being used anywhere.

Well, I have magic? There are a few other people, too. I'm sure you could ask.

You have magic? [Maybe like that Snow guy] But not with materia, right?

Is that a surprise? [ Raised eyebrows. ] It's inside me, and I channel it using a wand, if I need to.

A wand? What, like a stick?

Oh. Makes sense, if you cast spells with it. What makes it magical, like a mythril handle?

It has a core with a specific magical ingredient. Mine, for example, has dragon heartstring.

Huh. Dragons back home are just kinda...big ugly mean monsters. They're magic for you guys? Though I guess their scales are good for like armor and stuff...

They're a kind of magical creature, yes, but they're just as big and mean, sometimes. It depends on the situation.

Sounds like some people I know. [some people who aren't currently here bc he would get a punch to the head if they were] Didn't know that about magic though...I mean, I knew some other guy could use magic without materia here too, but he uses like this tattoo thing.

A tattoo, hm? [ Hermione considers for a moment. ] Well, I don't need the wand, since I can do magic without it, but having the wand makes it easier.

You do magic without it? How? Can people just do magic where you're from?

Yes, I'm a witch. It's perfectly normal for some people in my world to be capable of using magic as part of who they are.

Oh...there were people like that before, where I'm from. Like, ages and ages ago anyway. [If materia contains the knowledge of the Cetra then that means the Cetra could use magic without materia, right?]

Oh, that's interesting! Witches and wizards have been around for centuries too, but I'm not sure exactly how long.

Were they the first people on your Planet too?
