_{[ The transmission has a soundtrack this time - the dulcet tones of The Beastie Boys' Sabotage. A personal favorite of his, evidenced by his head gently bobbing to the 'beats and the shouting' as Jaylah had so fondly referred to it as. Hard to believe that had been years ago now. ]}

You know, there are times that I believe that Atroma knows way, way more about us than we think it does. That the whys of ripping us out of our times and our worlds is a lot more purposeful than we might think.

This, for instance.

_{[ He goes quiet and makes a motion with his hand to indicate the beats and the shouting, or to Kirk, the classical piece playing. ]}

I got this as what I can only assume is a combination Christmas and birthday gift. It's nothing but Sabotage remixes. Which, coincidentally, is probably one of the most significant songs in my life. Crashed my first car to the song - which, not surprisingly, lead to my first misdemeanor. I would sing this at the karaoke bars in college, even a bit during Star Fleet Academy on our nights off. And this song helped save the Federation, possibly the universe - also, coincidentally, on my birthday.

_{[ He goes quiet for a minute, just seeming to listen to the song, though his eyes seem far away. ]}

Anyways, if anyone would like to borrow it or get a copy, drop me a line. I'm always happy to share the classics from my world. It really is a great song. Hopefully next time I get a full album and not just the top twenty remixes - though I question the one that uses a piano. I don't recommend that version.

_{[ A soft sigh and then quieter than before - ]}

[ Action - Tourist + Iskaulit/Malum ]
_{[ His offer made, Kirk would spend a bit more on the Tourist listening to the songs, going down to the freight hangar to blast the music, and probably do a little bit of a workout while he did it. It was the sort of music that made you want to move, after all. He would stop between sets to flip through data on a pad, sometimes making notes, and then going back to his exercise with music that vibrated his bones.

Thankfully he has left the music behind when he goes to the Malum, because, well, it is his birthday, and he has a tradition on his birthday - a good solid drink. Normally he would share it with Bones, get chided about calling his mother, and then they would toast. That was it. No sense in changing the routine now, though he would have to do it without Bones. He thought about inviting Chekov, but, well, he didn't want to bother the other man.

So he could be found later at the Malum, in his reserved seat because even on his birthday he was the official honeypot, sipping something good and from the top shelf. He didn't use his birthday for anything, except a good drink and could you blame him? ]}

Is it your birthday, Jim? Oh my, we shall have to make sure you get some sort of special birthday pastry ... the Prince always liked those. Hm, I shall have to get creative though.

Hmm? Oh, yes, it is - January 4, every year.

_{[ He's never been super big on his birthday. He had mentioned it, because it seemed relevant given the dates, but he always got a little flustered when people said they wished to do things for it. He was used to just him and Bones getting a drink, but then, he had been in space for the past five or so birthdays... ]}

I'm sure I'll love whatever you can come up with, Cogsworth.

WELL let me think, let me think ... what sort of fruits do you like? Flavors, if you would, as I am not certain I can get the Actual Fruit itself.

[Well, he might. It all depends on what can be traded and the like.]

Apples are my favorite, but I like most fruits - oranges, pineapple, pears, grapes, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and the lime.

... I see. Yes. Yes I can make that happen. Apple tarte? Apple tarte is delightful.

That sounds delicious, though I am sure whatever you make would be.

Oh Jim, stop it. [He waved his hand, beaming.] You flatter me overly.

[Fenris has already made his feelings on Kirk's idea of 'music' very clear. He grimaces at the Maker-awful sound as he walks in. He's also carrying a terribly wrapped parcel. Bit of sellotape sticking up everywhere, a scruffy bow, the works. Despite the...noise, he offers a smile. ]

Happy birthday.

_{[ Kirk spotted the motion out of the corner of his eye, that tingle
that said someone else was there. He clicked off the music and smiled at
his lover, looking at the parcel with a touch of surprise. He knew Fenris
wasn’t one for gifts, and he didn’t make much of his own birthday in the
first place, so the present was enough to make his heart bump a little
faster for a minute. The condition of it was enough to make him smile, even
chuckle a bit, though he did appreciate Fenris’ efforts. ]}

Thank you. Hope I’m still young and handsome enough for you.

_{[ He came closer and bent down to steal a kiss. ]}

[Anders hadn't gone to bother Kirk while he'd been on the ship, Kirk hadn't said anything about his birthday coming up, so maybe he hadn't wanted it known or simply didn't care or maybe it had slipped his mind, just as Anders' often did for the healer. Either way, he figured he'd catch up with Kirk eventually, it just so happen to be at Crowley's bar.

He stopped by Kirk's table once he'd spotted him and offered a fond smile.]

Happy Birthday, Jim. I liked your music.

Happy Nameday, Captain! I would have made you a gift but I had no idea the occasion was so soon and I do not have anything with which to make you a gift.

( Both of these things, of course, are something of an impediment to her desire to give a present to the man who had helped guide her that first day. )

[Wait. Wait. Hold on. Shepard responds with incredulous awe.]

Is...is that The Beastie Boys?

That's a classic.

I promise you that will always be the case.

[He returns that kiss, awkwardly offering up the horribly wrapped package. ]

I...um. Got you a gift.

_{[ Kirk took it, giving him an amused look because there’s no sugar
coating your lack of wrapping skills, Fenris. ]}

You didn’t have to.

_{[ But he’s tearing at the wrapping, slowly working it open and
honestly curious as to what the other picked out for him. ]}

But I wanted to.

[And nothing stops Fenris from doing what he wants to. Inside the package is a bottle of scotch, but there's also a... it might be a scarf? It's kind of holey and the wool is all mismatched. The elf rubs the back of his neck. ]

Honestly, it seemed like a good idea at the time. I don't think I have the dexterity for it.

_{[ Kirk blinks at the piece of fabric as what Fenris said settles and
finally clicks. He looked up sharply, surprise written in his face. ]}

You made this? For me?

I was about to call you to take you up for that drinking coupon you gave me, but then I saw your broadcast.

[It sounds like Shiro's joking a bit, but the truth is, his voice lacks the teasing tone. His smile is small when he takes a sit next to Kirk, too, and he looks tired, but he wants to be here with his friend in this day. He kinda needs it too.]

Happy birthday, Jim. I owe you a proper present.

Not at all. You pulled off quite the feat for the Friendsgiving, so I'm sure you're more than capable of doing it again for a birthday tarte.

_{[ It was a mixture of all of that, really. His birthday hadn't been something 'special' to him a long while, and most of the time he was working anyways. Not much you could really do on a ship, either - except, you know, go to the bar. He smiled when Anders came up to him, raising his glass in greeting. ]}

Oh, liked the 'beats and the shouting', eh?

_{[ His eyes widen a little and brighten, like a puppy seeing a treat. ]}

[Furiosa isn't one for casual alcoholic drinks, usually, but she's still in the process of settling back into the Fleet after an extended time away. She came to the Malum figuring she'd see at least one familiar face, rather than trying to set herself up with a drink.

She does order a beer before settling next to Kirk, although whether or not she'll get through all of it is anyone's guess.]

_{[ He laughed at the mention of the coupon. He had put it in mostly as a joke, though he would certainly have honored it if Shiro decided to cash it in.

The laugh didn't have much to it, seeming to pick up on Shiro's own tiredness. Shiro does not immediately mention it, so for the moment Kirk decided not to either. Chances were he would swing back around, though, because birthday or no birthday, he couldn't let that go for to very long. ]}

Naw, don't worry about it. I'm happy enough you came to drink with me.

_{[ Anyone else he would have hugged and welcome back, but he remembered that Furiousa, quite like Fenris, wasn't a hugger. Or at least, he had better not initiate that hug otherwise he might end up on the floor, or worse. ]}

You know, I thought I'd heard the last of that noise after Apocalypse took over the Americas.

[The face he's pulling has less to do with the music and more with how Kirk referred to it.He remembers, well, when the Beastie Boys first started getting radio play.] That's the sort of thing the future considers classic?
