Movie Night Bonanza - Semi-Closed

The last couple months have been an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least. Lots of ups and downs, and Riona finds herself in need of a break. A way to just get her mind off of everything. And then she remembers she's promised a number of people a movie night. The solution comes together easily from there, and she sets up a series of movie nights with her friends.

Once they arrive, there's a small area set up with some chairs, blankets and of course a viewing platform to watch the movies. There'll also be food and drink, whatever they both decide on.

Riona's been amassing a collection from different planets since she got in the fleet, and now they have quite a variety of genres to choose from:

Rom-Coms and Romances: There's quite the range, from rather sappy romances to outright cringe-worthy flicks. There are a couple gems in the collection, but most are just overly cheesy or stupid. If nothing else, they're good for a laugh and making sarcastic commentary.

Action: Explosions! Guns! Chases! Scantily clad women for no discernible reason! These run the gamut from serious thinkpieces to unabashed blockbusters with nary a cohesive plot to be found. Again, there are a few decent ones in the mix but most are just for sheer entertainment.

Horror: Spooooooky~ Good for a scare... and maybe some laughs. Gore fests or psychological thrillers abound. This is the smallest collection she has, but there are enough to pick from!

Comedy: When a laugh is needed. From trash humor filled with fart jokes to more subtle humor, there's a bit of something for every brand of humor.

Animation: People actually draw all of this! This is by far the most varied of Riona's collection. There's cutesy kid stuff, adventure flicks, and even a few heartbreakers.

Musical: Riona's favorite. Theater in its truest form, but with singing!! And not the stuffy opera kind either. Almost as varied as the animated stuff, there's quite a range, from romping comedies, romances, to tragedies.

Drama: But of course. Angst, revelations, twists and betrayals. These movies take themselves the most seriously. Some are quite decent, but others are laughable at times. Also great for making fun of if you feel inclined.

So come on over, pick a genre, and settle in for some fun times.

((OOC: This is closed to Riona and her CR. Anyone she knows and has talked to is open to this! Just pick a genre and also a movie if you have one in mind! Outside the ones in the fleet archives, any movie would probably need to be tweaked a little in terms of details (i.e names, places, etc) as it would likely have come from another world. Maybe if they weren't so busy trying to get into one another's pants, they might have noticed all the bodies piling up. [He rolls his eyes with a shrug. ] I mean, I get teenage hormones and all, but come on guys. Look around first.

We all think we're invincible when we're that age. At least, that was always my impression. And who'd suspect a murderer in their midst? [She takes a sip from her drink as the scene shifts to another pair of teenagers, the two most reasonable ones they've seen so far.] Of course, once they found the first body they should have been a lot more worried.

I don't know, I had a healthy respect of my high chance of mortality at that age.

[But he also grew up in a warzone, so there was that.]

They should have got someone to help them. Call the cops, people, lock all the doors- geez.

War will do that to you. [She remembers he had been involved in a war when he was younger. It's a shame, as adolescence is the time of a person's life when they're supposed to be young, dumb and taking risks, not fighting an empire.]

Yes, the authorities should be involved. But I think they operate on the flimsy premise of 'no one would believe them'. At least not until it's too late.

Boy, doesn't it though.

[On occasions, he feels he was robbed- but he's made his peace with it. He helped save the world- that has to be worth a lost childhood, really. ]

That seems...pretty counterintutive to what the police are supposed to be doing.

[War sucks. It should go die in a fire somewhere.]

Well, we don't have police like this in Thedas, but we do have the city guard. And they tend to be dismissive if the claim seems rather outlandish.

[It really should.]

We have guards, too- but generally if someone says 'I'M BEING ATTACKED' they'll go to deal with it. Even the Fire Nation guards will do that.

If the culprit's still around. These movies, I find, set it up so that even if someone does call for help, by the time the police arrive, the killer's gone without a trace.

[Sometimes taking his victim's body with him to hide. It's kind of ridiculous, really.]

Some training in hand to hand and resourcefulness would go a long way for these youngsters. Unless the killer is some invincible, immortal person that comes about through supernatural means. Then you're just screwed.

Wow, that's pretty sneaky.

Yeah! And even if they had that, you can still give it a try. I mean, just learn to wave a sword around or train yourself to run really fast. Eventually, they'll get bored and leave you alone.

And absurdly well-thought out. A bit too much at times.

[But horror movies are not made for logic, she's found.]

I suppose it'd be worth a try. There's a movie I have about a killer that goes after you in dreams. It's very odd. [Before she can elaborate more on it, the scene opens to two of the remaining teenagers getting a little hot and heavy together in bed. The camera moves to a shot showing the outside, where the killer waits. In the rain. Cue dramatic lightning flash.]

They do love using flashes of lightning like that.

Like...calibrations, but more murdery?

[How does that even WORK? So creepy.]

They do. It's a lot less impressive once you know people who can actually do that- but I guess it does set a mood.

It's not entirely explained how he does it. Really, it reminds me of the spirits and demons back home, and how they can enter your dreams through the Fade. So perhaps it's something like that.

[Though the murderer isn't implied or said to be a spirit...]

You know people who can make it storm at will?

Kiiiiind of? Firebenders can create arcs of lighting to use at weapons. So it's less STORM and more zapping?

How can people who bend fire also be able to manipulate lightning?

I don't really understand it. Bending is kind of...complicated. It's something to do with energy transfer? Zuko tried to explain it to me once, but it's weird.

...right. You lost me at 'energy'. I'll just take your word for it.

[There's the sound of glass smashing from the movie. Well well, look who's broken into the house and has sent the teenagers inside in a panic?]

Good plan and- oh come on stop screaming. He can hear you, you losers!

Nothing like blind panic to prevent you from thinking straight. [She watches in amusement as the murderer chases the teens throughout the house, with a few close calls for good measure.] Again, I repeat: weapons, weapons, weapons.

Ugh, I guess. Seems pretty lame.

[He shakes his head with a sigh. ]

ANYTHING can be a weapon, teenagers! Be creative!!

These movies really don't advocate for common sense, or self-defense for that matter.

[But as she says that, one of the teenagers gets a little gutsy and grabs a shovel. When the killer comes around the corner, they clothesline him with it, sending him collapsing to the floor as they haul ass out of the house.]

...well what do you know.

[Sokka lets out a woop, raising his fists in the air. ]

Good job, random blonde teenager I forget the name of because I am utterly not invested in you. You just might get through this alive! Now get to safety and don't look back!

[Of course they look back, of course. ]

Nooooo forget the others, they're dumb! Save yourself!!!

[Riona laughs, though also looks a bit shocked.]

You're suggesting they abandon their friends because they're dumb? [She gets it, but still...] So harsh.

I mean, statistically, they'd probably be dead anyway.

...

Ugh, but no. I'd probably go back and save their dumb asses, too.

As would I. Dumb or not, friends are friends. And it seems he feels the same. [Said teenager seems to be baiting the baddie, trying to lead him on a chase and give his friends a shot at escaping.]

Awwww, look at him go. He's probably gonna die now, so they better make the most of it and-

...

Or they could just follow him sure, why not.
