Movie Night Bonanza - Semi-Closed
Who: Riona and frands
Broadcast: Nope
Action: On the Blue Fish
When: Throughout the month on January!
The last couple months have been an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least. Lots of ups and downs, and Riona finds herself in need of a break. A way to just get her mind off of everything. And then she remembers she's promised a number of people a movie night. The solution comes together easily from there, and she sets up a series of movie nights with her friends.
Once they arrive, there's a small area set up with some chairs, blankets and of course a viewing platform to watch the movies. There'll also be food and drink, whatever they both decide on.
Riona's been amassing a collection from different planets since she got in the fleet, and now they have quite a variety of genres to choose from:
Rom-Coms and Romances: There's quite the range, from rather sappy romances to outright cringe-worthy flicks. There are a couple gems in the collection, but most are just overly cheesy or stupid. If nothing else, they're good for a laugh and making sarcastic commentary.
Action: Explosions! Guns! Chases! Scantily clad women for no discernible reason! These run the gamut from serious thinkpieces to unabashed blockbusters with nary a cohesive plot to be found. Again, there are a few decent ones in the mix but most are just for sheer entertainment.
Horror: Spooooooky~ Good for a scare... and maybe some laughs. Gore fests or psychological thrillers abound. This is the smallest collection she has, but there are enough to pick from!
Comedy: When a laugh is needed. From trash humor filled with fart jokes to more subtle humor, there's a bit of something for every brand of humor.
Animation: People actually draw all of this! This is by far the most varied of Riona's collection. There's cutesy kid stuff, adventure flicks, and even a few heartbreakers.
Musical: Riona's favorite. Theater in its truest form, but with singing!! And not the stuffy opera kind either. Almost as varied as the animated stuff, there's quite a range, from romping comedies, romances, to tragedies.
Drama: But of course. Angst, revelations, twists and betrayals. These movies take themselves the most seriously. Some are quite decent, but others are laughable at times. Also great for making fun of if you feel inclined.
So come on over, pick a genre, and settle in for some fun times.
((OOC: This is closed to Riona and her CR. Anyone she knows and has talked to is open to this! Just pick a genre and also a movie if you have one in mind! Outside the ones in the fleet archives, any movie would probably need to be tweaked a little in terms of details (i.e names, places, etc) as it would likely have come from another world. If you have any questions please let me know!))

Rom-com!
He's really open for anything, and he trusts Riona when she tells him this will be fun.
"So, the plot of this moving story is that two people want to find love? Seems absolutely ridiculous," he says with a teasing tone that makes it clear he's looking forward to it.
no subject
"Utterly. It's such an unrealistic plot." She fights a smile, though her eyes are alight with one as she puts in the movie into the player. The viewer comes on, showing the menu for the movie. Riona shoots him a grin. "Ready?"
no subject
"As ready as I'll ever be," he replies.
no subject
The movie flashes on and begins. It opens with a dramatic musical accompaniment as the first scenes unfold, introducing both characters. Both are successful career types in relationships that on the outside seem fine, but they clearly don't seem terribly happy with them. It's all so very tragic.
Then the movie title does its dramatic reveal. With more dramatic music, of course.

Action
As it is, he stands with a movie in his hand as he reads the story plot a few times.]
Alright, so correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a story about underground cart racing. And there is a woman in her skivvies on the cover for what reason?
[Not that he's complaining. Said lady is very curvy, but he much prefers his own lady if pressed.]
This sounds as if it will be terrible.
no subject
[Maybe it's similar to how the shuttles work? Sadly, she's never been able to see what a shuttle looks like on the inside.]
These types of movies are fond of putting women in skimpy clothes and objectifying them. And yes, they're rather awful, but still kind of fun.
no subject
[The words are all close enough, to be honest. And since he has no idea how they're supposed to work, he will just go along with the concept of carriages without horses. He's seen a lot of things with the Dwarven culture.]
While I appreciate a lovely figure [he eyes her meaningly], is there a point to this objectification?
no subject
Not that I can discern, aside from having a nice womanly body to look at. [Anything for the male gaze.] The men are quite built and attractive as well, so it's not just the women. Their objectifying is far more egregious, however.

Action
... this is the most absurd show of swordmanship I have ever seen, and I am not a warrior.
no subject
It's all choreographed to be like that. They do it in theater quite often, but movies seem to go a step beyond dramatic.
no subject
Seriously, this is far too neat. Why isn't there more flesh flapping about?

Horror
You know what I never get? Why they always go "let's split up!" How about no, you don't split up, and instead stick together so you can't get picked off one by one by Spooky McMaskface here.
no subject
I'll admit, out of all the genres I've watched, horror confuses me the most. They make the stupidest decisions, all for the sake of the plot, and then they're surprised when things go horribly wrong. Like the splitting up, as you said. They're more of them than there are of the enemy; if they got weapons and grouped up, they could take him, untrained or not.
no subject
Yup! But nooo and then they do stupid things like- OH here we go. She obviously can't fit through that tiny pet door, but there she goes, trying to squeeze through it instead of, oh I don't know, screaming for help? Or maybe using one of those tools that's right next to her? It's like they want to die horribly.

action.
You know, some of these men don't seem to have that much to do with the abduction to begin with.
[And yet they're getting mowed down regardless.]
no subject
Ah. It seems that when you lose something you love those things don't matter.
[ She shifts, a little uncomfortable in her seat. At least the people she'd killed had actually been bad, right. ]

rom-com & drama
This is worse than Varric's books.
[ And then she swaps over to the dramas. The few she watches are generally terrible and leave her rolling her eyes, but one has her gripped, leaning forward in her chair as she stares at the screen, her eyes wide. She would absolutely jump if anyone said anything, completely engrossed in the cinematic masterpiece in front of her. ]
no subject
Biting softly on her bottom lip to keep herself from chuckling, Riona slowly leans over during one particularly tense moment, and just when the tension peaks, she goes:]
Boo.
no subject
When she's startled, though, she squeaks, turning and holding her Anchor-hand out in front of her, until --- ]

Musicals~
This one has a pretty cliche and predictable plot - think The Highwayman, or some other lovable-roguish-type torn from their lover by ~difficult and dangerous times~, you know the drill. But, cliche or no, the score is actually really good. And so... maybe the heart-wrenching duet right near the climax is enough to have Eithan on the edge of his seat. Because Damn. ]
Dear Goddess...!
no subject
This isn't a high brow production by any means, but she's immensely enjoying it, quietly humming along to some of her favorite songs.]
They really went all out with this piece, didn't they?
no subject
[ He's so amused. And also grabbing a handful of popcorn. What's a movie without popcorn~? ]
I'm glad someone else on this ship likes musicals. Clearly we should start a club.
