The last couple months have been an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least. Lots of ups and downs, and Riona finds herself in need of a break. A way to just get her mind off of everything. And then she remembers she's promised a number of people a movie night. The solution comes together easily from there, and she sets up a series of movie nights with her friends.

Once they arrive, there's a small area set up with some chairs, blankets and of course a viewing platform to watch the movies. There'll also be food and drink, whatever they both decide on.

Riona's been amassing a collection from different planets since she got in the fleet, and now they have quite a variety of genres to choose from:



Rom-Coms and Romances: There's quite the range, from rather sappy romances to outright cringe-worthy flicks. There are a couple gems in the collection, but most are just overly cheesy or stupid. If nothing else, they're good for a laugh and making sarcastic commentary.

Action: Explosions! Guns! Chases! Scantily clad women for no discernible reason! These run the gamut from serious thinkpieces to unabashed blockbusters with nary a cohesive plot to be found. Again, there are a few decent ones in the mix but most are just for sheer entertainment.

Horror: Spooooooky~ Good for a scare... and maybe some laughs. Gore fests or psychological thrillers abound. This is the smallest collection she has, but there are enough to pick from!

Comedy: When a laugh is needed. From trash humor filled with fart jokes to more subtle humor, there's a bit of something for every brand of humor.

Animation: People actually draw all of this! This is by far the most varied of Riona's collection. There's cutesy kid stuff, adventure flicks, and even a few heartbreakers.

Musical: Riona's favorite. Theater in its truest form, but with singing!! And not the stuffy opera kind either. Almost as varied as the animated stuff, there's quite a range, from romping comedies, romances, to tragedies.

Drama: But of course. Angst, revelations, twists and betrayals. These movies take themselves the most seriously. Some are quite decent, but others are laughable at times. Also great for making fun of if you feel inclined.

So come on over, pick a genre, and settle in for some fun times.

((OOC: This is closed to Riona and her CR. Anyone she knows and has talked to is open to this! Just pick a genre and also a movie if you have one in mind! Outside the ones in the fleet archives, any movie would probably need to be tweaked a little in terms of details (i.e names, places, etc) as it would likely have come from another world. Musicals~

[ Since being in space, Eithan has discovered that movies are pretty awesome. Better still are the movies with music. Seriously, best way ever to tell a story, he's convinced. (But also biased, let's be real.)

This one has a pretty cliche and predictable plot - think The Highwayman, or some other lovable-roguish-type torn from their lover by ~difficult and dangerous times~, you know the drill. But, cliche or no, the score is actually really good. And so... maybe the heart-wrenching duet right near the climax is enough to have Eithan on the edge of his seat. Because Damn. ]

[Riona's so glad she's found someone else who shares a love of musicals with her. Alistair doesn't care for them, and none of the others seem to really enjoy them either. Ever since Beverly left, she feared that she'd be alone in that, but then Eithan here stepped in and filled in that hole the doctor left behind.

This isn't a high brow production by any means, but she's immensely enjoying it, quietly humming along to some of her favorite songs.]

They really did. Never underestimate the power of an over-the-top love story to inspire some good harmonies, right?

I'm glad someone else on this ship likes musicals. Clearly we should start a club.

There really is something about love that inspires a song in us all. [Says the mushy romantic.]

Me too. Alistair finds them boring and no one else seems interested. I was just about despondent there for a moment before you came along.

You're absolutely damn right. [ Agrees the other romantic, though maybe not quite as outwardly mushy~ ]

Boring? Pff. Clearly he needs to see the error of his ways. There's gotta be a musical with a story even he'd be interested in, right?

I can only hope. So far I've had little luck, but at least he's willing to try. [Her lips quirk to the side.] Though I suspect it's part because he gets a nice nap out of it.

[ Snort. ] Guess that better than if he spent the whole time bein' upset about it?

[ He's just poking fun at Alistair's expense~ Honestly? It's been nice to see Riona happy. She more than deserves it. ]

Hmm, what about a funny musical? Or, hmm... maybe he'd like somethin' with a lot of action in it?

Or both. Those might hold his attention a bit more, but they seem to be in short supply. [Musicals tended to run towards drama and romance, or so she's found so far.] I wonder if there are any with all those explosions like you see in the action movies.

[ He laughs a bit. ]

There's gotta be one somewhere out there in existence, right? We should start askin' locals when we get to systems. Worst case scenario, we still get other musicals.

I like the way you think, Paine. We'll definitely have to start at the next place, provided it's not also full of cannibals trying to eat us.

Goddess, I hope not. I only got back to where I can walk without any trace of a limp.

[ He doesn't even want to imagine where he'd be without his crew - his friends. ]

We're gonna get a massive collection of shit to watch at this rate... and I'm absolutely okay with that.

That was a right nasty injury you received, but at least it didn't cause any permanent damage. [Or so she hopes.]

I like action-y stuff. And horror - those are fun, especially when you're watchin' with a bunch of friends and you can all react together. You know? [ Beat. ] Or if you've already seen it and you get to show someone else for the first time. That's a lot of fun.

Yes! That's why I prefer watching shows or movies with other people. Reacting together makes it more fun. Or - yes, like horror movies. Knowing what's coming and the other person not knowing makes for a hilarious moment. [She says that with the voice of experience. Why yes, she's subjected a few people to horror movies just to see how they'd react.]

Please tell me you've made Alistair watch somethin' scary that you've already seen.

[ He does not even know Alistair that well. He just kind of loves the idea of Riona getting to subject the love of her life to something like that. ]
