Movie Night Bonanza - Semi-Closed

The last couple months have been an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least. Lots of ups and downs, and Riona finds herself in need of a break. A way to just get her mind off of everything. And then she remembers she's promised a number of people a movie night. The solution comes together easily from there, and she sets up a series of movie nights with her friends.

Once they arrive, there's a small area set up with some chairs, blankets and of course a viewing platform to watch the movies. There'll also be food and drink, whatever they both decide on.

Riona's been amassing a collection from different planets since she got in the fleet, and now they have quite a variety of genres to choose from:



Rom-Coms and Romances: There's quite the range, from rather sappy romances to outright cringe-worthy flicks. There are a couple gems in the collection, but most are just overly cheesy or stupid. If nothing else, they're good for a laugh and making sarcastic commentary.

Action: Explosions! Guns! Chases! Scantily clad women for no discernible reason! These run the gamut from serious thinkpieces to unabashed blockbusters with nary a cohesive plot to be found. Again, there are a few decent ones in the mix but most are just for sheer entertainment.

Horror: Spooooooky~ Good for a scare... and maybe some laughs. Gore fests or psychological thrillers abound. This is the smallest collection she has, but there are enough to pick from!

Comedy: When a laugh is needed. From trash humor filled with fart jokes to more subtle humor, there's a bit of something for every brand of humor.

Animation: People actually draw all of this! This is by far the most varied of Riona's collection. There's cutesy kid stuff, adventure flicks, and even a few heartbreakers.

Musical: Riona's favorite. Theater in its truest form, but with singing!! And not the stuffy opera kind either. Almost as varied as the animated stuff, there's quite a range, from romping comedies, romances, to tragedies.

Drama: But of course. Angst, revelations, twists and betrayals. These movies take themselves the most seriously. Some are quite decent, but others are laughable at times. Also great for making fun of if you feel inclined.

So come on over, pick a genre, and settle in for some fun times.

((OOC: This is closed to Riona and her CR. Anyone she knows and has talked to is open to this! Just pick a genre and also a movie if you have one in mind! Outside the ones in the fleet archives, any movie would probably need to be tweaked a little in terms of details (i.e names, places, etc) as it would likely have come from another world. [Riona leans back, shooting him a look complete with a raised brow.]

Oh, is that to say I'm not pretty at all, seeing as I'm one?

You are married. Therefore your prettiness is on a scale of 'Cannot Have, Do Not Worry About'.

[He smirked over at her, waggling his eyebrows.]

Otherwise I would agree. You are far, far too pretty to have been in so many wars.

Ha! Well, I am still able to be ogled by passersby, married or not. But thank you. I do long for a more domestic life, as tame as that sounds.

Well if we avoid dangerous criminal planets ... we should be able to grant you that. For a little while, anyways.

[He sipped his wine again, his smile moving sideways.]

If we are so lucky.

I eke it out where I can. Being on a ship together helps a lot with that. But yes, we'll see how our luck holds up.

[The movie continues on, and a wide shot of a battle starts the next scene. There's a castle on one side, and an army marching up to it with catapults.]

If you thought the sword fight was ridiculous, wait until you see this.

I certainly hope it is not going to be ...

[He put one hand to his face.]

Did they load a mountain in that catapult? Because that is the only way a wall like that collapses.

Oh not quite, but apparently... well, you'll see.

[THE BATTLE BEGINS. Catapults are launched, arrows are shot, the whole nine yards. The walls take far more damage than what would be realistic, though the attacking party still has a hard time breaching them enough to be able to get inside. So they are forced to resort to more desperate measures.

Riona can't help it; she starts laughing as a few men climb onto the catapult.]

[tallasaking]

.... and is this the scene when they get splattered on the wall or into the ground?

[Please let this be the moment because - what in the name of the fucking Sister is this particular bullshit? Tyrion stares, with horrified fascination.]

Oh, if only.

[The men begin to climb in, though at the last moment they're stopped by an officer. There's some shouting, some mention of barrels... next thing they see is the men being loaded into the catapult, but now in barrels. Yep, because that's gonna save them. Or so logic would sarcastically dictate.

But this is a movie. So instead, when they're launched and sail over the wall, rather than meeting their grisly end on the ground or wall, the barrels smash when they land, but the men roll out just fine, if not a bit battered. And it's not long before their swords are drawn and they're tossing themselves into the fray, now behind enemy lines.

By this point, Riona's unable to contain her laughter.]

[tallasaking]

[Tyrion is silent, watching all of this. Arms crossed over his chest, mis-matched eyes narrowed into mere slits. Finally, after the characters have entered back into the fray, he speaks.]

I did not understand what physics was, until I came here. So I could not properly tell you what was wrong with that, when I was back in Westeros. Right now I can simply say ... they should have been gruel. Pooling down the wall.

Oh absolutely. Knowledge of physics or not, even the most uneducated bumpkin could tell you that. Or so one would hope. But these movies aren't always entirely concerned with realism.

[tallasaking]

I can tell. As it is not real whatsoever. [He poured another glass of wine for both of them, and shook his head.]

Unrealistic, yes, but enjoyable, no? Or do you find the lack of realism to be off putting? Some do. [She takes the refill with a murmured thanks before taking a sip.]

[tallasaking]

I honestly am having a great deal of fun just mocking the action itself. [He chuckled softly.] Although the poetry is lovely. I am weak for a good sonnet.

It is fun to make fun of, so to speak. That's a large part of the reason I kept a lot of these films. They're fun to laugh at, even if they're not meant to be funny.

I mean, I suppose one cannot ask people to have a battle where dragons are running about, but still.

Funny that you say that... I've seen movies with dragons in them!

[tallasaking]

..... do I want to honestly know? Or will it simply terrify me?

[She grins widely, wickedly.] Why not both?

[He took a big, big sip of wine.]
