Movie Night Bonanza - Semi-Closed

The last couple months have been an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least. Lots of ups and downs, and Riona finds herself in need of a break. A way to just get her mind off of everything. And then she remembers she's promised a number of people a movie night. The solution comes together easily from there, and she sets up a series of movie nights with her friends.

Once they arrive, there's a small area set up with some chairs, blankets and of course a viewing platform to watch the movies. There'll also be food and drink, whatever they both decide on.

Riona's been amassing a collection from different planets since she got in the fleet, and now they have quite a variety of genres to choose from:

Rom-Coms and Romances: There's quite the range, from rather sappy romances to outright cringe-worthy flicks. There are a couple gems in the collection, but most are just overly cheesy or stupid. If nothing else, they're good for a laugh and making sarcastic commentary.

Action: Explosions! Guns! Chases! Scantily clad women for no discernible reason! These run the gamut from serious thinkpieces to unabashed blockbusters with nary a cohesive plot to be found. Again, there are a few decent ones in the mix but most are just for sheer entertainment.

Horror: Spooooooky~ Good for a scare... and maybe some laughs. Gore fests or psychological thrillers abound. This is the smallest collection she has, but there are enough to pick from!

Comedy: When a laugh is needed. From trash humor filled with fart jokes to more subtle humor, there's a bit of something for every brand of humor.

Animation: People actually draw all of this! This is by far the most varied of Riona's collection. There's cutesy kid stuff, adventure flicks, and even a few heartbreakers.

Musical: Riona's favorite. Theater in its truest form, but with singing!! And not the stuffy opera kind either. Almost as varied as the animated stuff, there's quite a range, from romping comedies, romances, to tragedies.

Drama: But of course. Angst, revelations, twists and betrayals. These movies take themselves the most seriously. Some are quite decent, but others are laughable at times. Also great for making fun of if you feel inclined.

So come on over, pick a genre, and settle in for some fun times.

((OOC: This is closed to Riona and her CR. Anyone she knows and has talked to is open to this! Just pick a genre and also a movie if you have one in mind! Outside the ones in the fleet archives, any movie would probably need to be tweaked a little in terms of details (i.e names, places, etc) as it would likely have come from another world. Me? Maker no, never me. I was raised to be a demure lady of nobility, the walking embodiment of grace and sensibility! [She laughs under her breath at her own ridiculousness.] Such is the way with most places, I've found.

[That actually gets a laugh out of him and he kisses her hair before going back to trying to make sense of this "car chase" scene.]

Yes, it is your demure nature that made me want to have you lead our party during the Blight. Because Darkspawn react so well to manners.

[Admittedly, she's not paying a whole lot of attention, though she knows how it all goes by now. Cars chase each other, there's a crash or two, and a lot of weird stunts mixed in.]

As opposed to how well they react to raunchiness and debauchery?

[Look, he's never seen this before. And that car just exploded and it's pretty awesome to see all the glass and metal spray. Exploooooooooooooooooooooooosions!]

Well, they didn't try to murder Oghren right off, did they?

[How did she know he'd love the explosions?]

...doesn't everyone try to murder Oghren right off? [She tries and fail to suppress a smile, one which turns into a grin as she laughs.] Oh I'm terrible. I love the dwarf, really, but he tends to grate people's nerves.

[Um, maybe because explosions are awesome? And, to be honest, so long as it isn't based in lyrium, Alistair is gonna be okay with it.]

We didn't, but we were sort of busy at the time. He's not completely terrible. He just has a lot of bad habits. Like asking me what our sex life is like. [He turns to look at her, a pained expression on his face that isn't all faked.] If he asked me one more time what I did with your legs, I might have kicked him in his stubby knees.

[She adores Oghren, really, but sometimes it was hard not to want to drop kick him.]

That's Oghren for you. But it's true, I never wished him harm, really. [A pause, and then a frown.] Well, maybe except for after the disaster with the dragon at the Temple of Sacred Ashes. [In which he drunkenly tripped, rolled into the gong, awoke the dragon, and started the fight that nearly got Riona killed. Admittedly, when she finally woke up well after the fight ended with that wound in her chest and a lot less blood in her than she should have, she very much considered throttling the dwarf.]

[Alistair is still mad about that. It's part of the reason he didn't tell the dwarf not to go when he started talking about leaving the court at Denerim. If he'd known he was going to go to Amaranthine ahead of time, he might've had him tossed into the dungeons to keep his wife safe from the alcoholic dwarf.]

Felsi might've even thanked us for the service if we'd "forgotten" him somewhere after that.

[Like the bottom of one of the fissures in the Deep Roads.]

Debatable. She wouldn't have had their daughter if we had left him somewhere, but then she'd have been spared him leaving them.

[Even after everything that's happened, that's the only thing she ever truly yelled at Oghren for. Granted, a part of her knew he was overwhelmed, but it was still a shit move on his part to abandon them. Luckily, he's at least kept in contact.]

You bring up a good point. And I can't believe he left his family.

[And that angers Alistair more. If Oghren were here, he'd probably punch the dwarf in the face with his gauntlets on. The damn idiot was lucky enough to have a wife and a child and he just leaves them. Coward.]

Not a family man, our Oghren. After a lot of yelling, we managed to talk about it. I think a part of him regrets it, but there's not much going back once you're a Warden. He writes to them, at least.

[Boy this got depressing. Weren't they watching explosions? Oh look, there's another one. This time it's not a car, but something bigger. Look at that boom!]

He's still lucky.

[Especially since they both know the chances of their own family growing is very slim.

But, wow, yes, this is depressing, when they were supposed to be having a nice, fun night with the "movies".

To make it up to her, he kisses her temple and goes back to watching the fuel truck explode.]

I wonder how they manage that without lyrium or magic.

[She smiles a little at the kiss, but her attention's mostly on the movie now.]

I'm not entirely certain. Actors are trained to be able to mimic being hit or stabbed, but I don't know how they manage to safely do all this with explosions going on. Unless they're somehow faked as well, like sword fights?

[Casual affection is how they roll. So long as she knows that he adores her.

And, wow, that sure is another car speeding through the flames like it's no big deal.]

Well, sword fights can be dangerous, even when it's nothing but training exercises. Maybe they're just very careful when they do all of this.

[Although, nothing else proves that it's not faked either. He doesn't know how they do it. Of course, the Qunari have their way...]

Do you think it's something like that Qunari powder we've heard about before now?

[And that she adores him in equal part.]

They'd have to be extremely cautious. And still the chances would be high of something going awry. It's a wonder anyone goes into acting in these worlds, with how dangerous it must be.

[Though all of the action movies she's found suggest otherwise.]

It must be something similar. That or magic.

Well, I've been reading up on their healing techniques, [since, you know, that's his job] and it seems a lot more practical than what we have on Thedas. Even if it comes with its own set of risks.

[Guys ware just going to do dumb shit. No matter what planet.]

Nothing I've read lately suggests magic though.

Alistair's smart, despite what most think, and she's glad for these moments when he'll (kind of) cop to it.] Beverly - a medic we had on the ship for awhile [Oh, Bev. She misses her dearly.] talked to me a bit about her medicine back in her world. It's all very... tech-y.

Well, if I'm stuck here, I might as well be useful. We can't just wait around for mages to heal us.

[He can admit that he's doing good to his wife. She won't tease him. Much.]

Oh dear, don't let Anders hear you say that. He takes a lot of pride in being a healer.

[And with good reason. He learned from Wynne, and it shows.]

More so. Once she told me about a procedure they could do that erased scars. Even the one on my chest, they could make disappear.

I'm sure he's a fine healer, but it's not like he's around all the time or that I magically have Wynne here either. It's better to be prepared for the worst and not need it.

[Look, would he rather have Wynne than rely on his own meager understanding of first aid and surgery? Sure. Is that going to stop him from still learning if it means being able to save lives? Hell no.]

I don't know if I want your scar to disappear. [He puts his hand over her heart where he came dangerously close to losing her until Wynne herself healed her.] I think it's rather sexy.

[She nods, seeing his point. Anders is only one man, and he can't be everywhere or at some place immediately. Having options is good, and she's proud of Alistair for taking so much initiative and learning about this.]

Sexy? You think so? Maker I always thought the thing was ugly.

[Well, he's not king here. He needs to be useful as well. You know, earn his keep and all.]

It's a part of you. How can I not find it sexy?

It's... ugly. [Her expressions turns serious as she considers the scar, long since healed. And yet she still remembers when the wound was fresh and raw, pulsing with pain with every breath she took.] Not to mention all the memories associated with it.

It's true that sometimes I look at it and think about the fact that I could have lost you then.

[He tries not to think about that. He really does try. He loves her too damn much.]

But it would be like hating your hair. If you wanted to get rid of it, I would support you, of course, but it wouldn't change the fact that I love you.

It doesn't haunt me as much as it used to. Passage of time helps with that. Though it's strange to think about it. For me it was so long ago, but for you it was what, a year ago?

[It was later on in the Blight when she got it. It still hurt a bit even when they arrived in Denerim for the Landsmeet.]

Well, I can't get rid of it right now. I have no means to. Luckily it's not usually visible in public, save for when I go swimming.
