The last couple months have been an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least. Lots of ups and downs, and Riona finds herself in need of a break. A way to just get her mind off of everything. And then she remembers she's promised a number of people a movie night. The solution comes together easily from there, and she sets up a series of movie nights with her friends.

Once they arrive, there's a small area set up with some chairs, blankets and of course a viewing platform to watch the movies. There'll also be food and drink, whatever they both decide on.

Riona's been amassing a collection from different planets since she got in the fleet, and now they have quite a variety of genres to choose from:



Rom-Coms and Romances: There's quite the range, from rather sappy romances to outright cringe-worthy flicks. There are a couple gems in the collection, but most are just overly cheesy or stupid. If nothing else, they're good for a laugh and making sarcastic commentary.

Action: Explosions! Guns! Chases! Scantily clad women for no discernible reason! These run the gamut from serious thinkpieces to unabashed blockbusters with nary a cohesive plot to be found. Again, there are a few decent ones in the mix but most are just for sheer entertainment.

Horror: Spooooooky~ Good for a scare... and maybe some laughs. Gore fests or psychological thrillers abound. This is the smallest collection she has, but there are enough to pick from!

Comedy: When a laugh is needed. From trash humor filled with fart jokes to more subtle humor, there's a bit of something for every brand of humor.

Animation: People actually draw all of this! This is by far the most varied of Riona's collection. There's cutesy kid stuff, adventure flicks, and even a few heartbreakers.

Musical: Riona's favorite. Theater in its truest form, but with singing!! And not the stuffy opera kind either. Almost as varied as the animated stuff, there's quite a range, from romping comedies, romances, to tragedies.

Drama: But of course. Angst, revelations, twists and betrayals. These movies take themselves the most seriously. Some are quite decent, but others are laughable at times. Also great for making fun of if you feel inclined.

So come on over, pick a genre, and settle in for some fun times.

((OOC: This is closed to Riona and her CR. Anyone she knows and has talked to is open to this! Just pick a genre and also a movie if you have one in mind! Outside the ones in the fleet archives, any movie would probably need to be tweaked a little in terms of details (i.e names, places, etc) as it would likely have come from another world. Cyril laughs gently. "I love it. It's just the type of drama one would expect to see in a play." The acting was an entirely different caliber than a play might have, though. The medium was utterly different in a lot of ways though.

"Yes, very much so. Orlesian plays tend to lend themselves to more serious topics, but this kind of bumbling together of people and circumstances is pretty typical in pauper plays and the like." Movies have the benefit of cameras and more elaborate scenes, even if the acting can be questionable at times.

"Have you ever seen the opera at the Winter Palace?" he asks, brightening up a bit at a cherished memory. "My ambassador took me once. It was incredible."

"I'm afraid I haven't." She tilts her head curiously. "I've seen a few of them, but not that particular one. Most tend to run stuffy."

"This was not stuffy. It had explosions, and fireworks, and these loud cymbals that went 'boom' when they hit them. The costumes were something to behold as well, and the lead had this voice that I swear could charm bluebirds out of their nests," Cyril tries to get across how amazing the whole event had been.

"Oh, I wish I remembered the name of it. Or that Josephine was here. She'd have more details."

"...damn, I'd been going to the wrong operas then." Not that she's been able to go to an Orlesian opera in years, but she wonders if her mother purposefully avoided the more colorful operas, back when she went to them with her family. "Figures. If I'd seen those, I might have been more inclined to go to operas."

"I'd imagine that's true for most of the things that nobles do, hm? There's the boring, stuffy version and the fun, grandiose version. We should do our parts to make sure there is more of the second kind."

If only she could back home. Maybe, if her quest goes well and she finds what she's looking for... "Absolutely. It'd be the noble thing to do, no?" Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

He chuckles, enjoying her pun. "You know, you are literally a shining example of both definitions of that word, my friend. Might as well embrace it."

"Why thank you. I dare say we both embody the spirit of nobility." The metaphorical kind, aka the only one that really matters. "If only more people did."

"I think that may well be the first time anyone has said that to a Dalish elf," he teases gently.

[bryces_pup]

"I certainly hope not." Teasing or not, Riona's all too aware that the Dalish aren't usually lobbed with compliments from humans back home. Then, teasingly herself, "But if that is the most unfortunate case, then I will gladly bear the honor of having said it first."

"As I, being the first to hear it," Cyril replied, smiling. It meant something that she would think that more of The People should hear that compliment.
