Movie Night Bonanza - Semi-Closed
Who: Riona and frands
Broadcast: Nope
Action: On the Blue Fish
When: Throughout the month on January!
The last couple months have been an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least. Lots of ups and downs, and Riona finds herself in need of a break. A way to just get her mind off of everything. And then she remembers she's promised a number of people a movie night. The solution comes together easily from there, and she sets up a series of movie nights with her friends.
Once they arrive, there's a small area set up with some chairs, blankets and of course a viewing platform to watch the movies. There'll also be food and drink, whatever they both decide on.
Riona's been amassing a collection from different planets since she got in the fleet, and now they have quite a variety of genres to choose from:
Rom-Coms and Romances: There's quite the range, from rather sappy romances to outright cringe-worthy flicks. There are a couple gems in the collection, but most are just overly cheesy or stupid. If nothing else, they're good for a laugh and making sarcastic commentary.
Action: Explosions! Guns! Chases! Scantily clad women for no discernible reason! These run the gamut from serious thinkpieces to unabashed blockbusters with nary a cohesive plot to be found. Again, there are a few decent ones in the mix but most are just for sheer entertainment.
Horror: Spooooooky~ Good for a scare... and maybe some laughs. Gore fests or psychological thrillers abound. This is the smallest collection she has, but there are enough to pick from!
Comedy: When a laugh is needed. From trash humor filled with fart jokes to more subtle humor, there's a bit of something for every brand of humor.
Animation: People actually draw all of this! This is by far the most varied of Riona's collection. There's cutesy kid stuff, adventure flicks, and even a few heartbreakers.
Musical: Riona's favorite. Theater in its truest form, but with singing!! And not the stuffy opera kind either. Almost as varied as the animated stuff, there's quite a range, from romping comedies, romances, to tragedies.
Drama: But of course. Angst, revelations, twists and betrayals. These movies take themselves the most seriously. Some are quite decent, but others are laughable at times. Also great for making fun of if you feel inclined.
So come on over, pick a genre, and settle in for some fun times.
((OOC: This is closed to Riona and her CR. Anyone she knows and has talked to is open to this! Just pick a genre and also a movie if you have one in mind! Outside the ones in the fleet archives, any movie would probably need to be tweaked a little in terms of details (i.e names, places, etc) as it would likely have come from another world. If you have any questions please let me know!))

[Maybe it's similar to how the shuttles work? Sadly, she's never been able to see what a shuttle looks like on the inside.]
These types of movies are fond of putting women in skimpy clothes and objectifying them. And yes, they're rather awful, but still kind of fun.
no subject
[The words are all close enough, to be honest. And since he has no idea how they're supposed to work, he will just go along with the concept of carriages without horses. He's seen a lot of things with the Dwarven culture.]
While I appreciate a lovely figure [he eyes her meaningly], is there a point to this objectification?
no subject
Not that I can discern, aside from having a nice womanly body to look at. [Anything for the male gaze.] The men are quite built and attractive as well, so it's not just the women. Their objectifying is far more egregious, however.
no subject
If only Thedas could learn that, what sort of world would they live in?]
Ah, I have no complaints about the womanly figure in front of me right now. [Did you order a sap? No? Too bad.] However, I suppose that if it's equal than I won't complain. Much.
no subject
Always good to know. [She hits play and scoots back, cuddling up against his side as the movie starts.] There's some odd music that accompanies the movie. No idea what the lyrics are, before you ask. [Ah, the joys of rap/whatever world equivalent as it starts up with the opening scene. Of course there are cars everywhere, accompanied with scantily clad people of both sexes.]
no subject
So long as it doesn't involve locked cages and apostates and demons.
He listens to the beginning song and frowns.]
They call that music? I'm not a huge fan of musicals, I'll admit, but...that's not music.
[Where are the violins? The harps? The mandolin? The snooty Orlesian lyrics?]
no subject
Beats me. Music from other planets tend to run strange. It's not the weirdest I've heard in the fleet.
[At least it doesn't last long. Once the initial credits roll, the scene picks up and of course, there's a race. Or something. Whatever it is, it involves a lot of cars.]
no subject
Although, he likes books...]
Oh, well, I suppose I've heard worse than this from some of the mages back home.
[Except, for someone who had no clue what a car is about two minutes before, he's very interested in this fake race. It's very interesting.]
no subject
Do I even want to ask what you've heard?
[Mages aren't the first bunch of people she'd equate shitty music with, but hey, she didn't grow up around them.]
no subject
Oh, mages and clerics and templars.... they all just think that no one is paying attention to anything. I mean, probably Knight-Commander Greagoir and the First Enchanter missed the little dalliances, but it's not that hard to find someone saying things that would scandalize the Revered Mothers.
And after a few ales, get some of those templars "singing" and it's better to give Kiter a free rein.
So... this is sort of like a mix?
no subject
To be fair, it doesn't take much to scandalize the Mothers. But I imagine what you mean. You can't keep people cooped up together like that and expect people to, well, dally. And then raunchiness ensues. Not that I have ever done or experienced such a thing, but I've heard a rumor or two.
[Says the woman who always manages to issue at least one swear word every time they have sex. And likes to make the man sitting next to her blush.]
We can't all sing well like Leliana, I suppose.
no subject
But her comments get a startled chuckle out of him, not that he dislikes it at all.]
You would know about the raunchiness, my dear. More so than I. [He is still sweetness and light and innocence, despite the fact that has been thoroughly corrupted by the woman next to him. And he enjoys every second of it.] And the rumors do the Circles no justice. It's a different world when you're on the inside.
no subject
no subject
Yes, it is your demure nature that made me want to have you lead our party during the Blight. Because Darkspawn react so well to manners.
no subject
As opposed to how well they react to raunchiness and debauchery?
no subject
Well, they didn't try to murder Oghren right off, did they?
no subject
...doesn't everyone try to murder Oghren right off? [She tries and fail to suppress a smile, one which turns into a grin as she laughs.] Oh I'm terrible. I love the dwarf, really, but he tends to grate people's nerves.
no subject
We didn't, but we were sort of busy at the time. He's not completely terrible. He just has a lot of bad habits. Like asking me what our sex life is like. [He turns to look at her, a pained expression on his face that isn't all faked.] If he asked me one more time what I did with your legs, I might have kicked him in his stubby knees.
no subject
That's Oghren for you. But it's true, I never wished him harm, really. [A pause, and then a frown.] Well, maybe except for after the disaster with the dragon at the Temple of Sacred Ashes. [In which he drunkenly tripped, rolled into the gong, awoke the dragon, and started the fight that nearly got Riona killed. Admittedly, when she finally woke up well after the fight ended with that wound in her chest and a lot less blood in her than she should have, she very much considered throttling the dwarf.]
no subject
Felsi might've even thanked us for the service if we'd "forgotten" him somewhere after that.
[Like the bottom of one of the fissures in the Deep Roads.]
no subject
[Even after everything that's happened, that's the only thing she ever truly yelled at Oghren for. Granted, a part of her knew he was overwhelmed, but it was still a shit move on his part to abandon them. Luckily, he's at least kept in contact.]
no subject
[And that angers Alistair more. If Oghren were here, he'd probably punch the dwarf in the face with his gauntlets on. The damn idiot was lucky enough to have a wife and a child and he just leaves them. Coward.]
no subject
[Boy this got depressing. Weren't they watching explosions? Oh look, there's another one. This time it's not a car, but something bigger. Look at that boom!]
no subject
[Especially since they both know the chances of their own family growing is very slim.
But, wow, yes, this is depressing, when they were supposed to be having a nice, fun night with the "movies".
To make it up to her, he kisses her temple and goes back to watching the fuel truck explode.]
I wonder how they manage that without lyrium or magic.
no subject
I'm not entirely certain. Actors are trained to be able to mimic being hit or stabbed, but I don't know how they manage to safely do all this with explosions going on. Unless they're somehow faked as well, like sword fights?
