002 In The Bleak Midwinter (OTA)

( Sansa hasn't addressed the entire fleet since she'd first arrived around a moon ago but she feels like if she's going to make an expedition down to the planet below, she ought to have some company. This isn't something she's familiar with, travel through the stars, and the information she's been given about the land beneath them seems appealing. She wants to feel a true ground beneath her feet again and the lure of snow and all that comes with it is hard to ignore. She's pink-cheeked and slightly optimistic when she addresses the fleet. )

I've been wanting to go down below to the planet but since this is my first experience with it, I wondered if someone might like to accompany me? I know my ways are likely different from most of yours but I appreciate your indulgence just this once.

( She presses her lips together and chances a bit of a smile. )

I've heard there's treats and things? It might be nice for a day or so.

( When Sansa gets down onto Selvin-9, the first thing she encounters are snow leopards. They're small, beautiful little things that look rather like spotted jungle cats only their coats are white as snow. She's never heard of such a thing in Westeros and she immediately wants one upon setting eyes on them playing around. She asks around and it seems they're quite tame and able to be taken as pets so she has one on a length of ribbon, a lovely creature she's started referring to as Jonquil. She looks to the person next to her, someone who seems like they might be from the fleet as well. )

Do you see her? Isn't she amazing? I haven't had a pet in a long time. It's just a pity this one won't grow to be much larger than it is right now. I could use something to protect me.

( Sansa thinks she should have expected one of Lord Tyrion's quips and, instead, it takes her by surprise. She rolls her eyes a bit but the lie of it is given away in the curve of her smile. At least he's not using humor to deflect from anything and it's just a laugh for a laugh's sake. She looks at the menu again and orders a pot of tea for them to share along with some cakes; she doesn't think they're lemon but she hopes they're good all the same. )

All right, then. The beginning. Tell me about your time here, then? I know most of what happened in Westeros.

[Tyrion paused, his mouth working for a moment as he looked thoughtful. He leaned back in his chair, tipping his head at Sansa.]

It is ... something of a long story. We may be here awhile.

( Sansa smiles back, eager to hear it even if it takes Tyrion a while to explain. )

I have time, my lord.

Well ... when I first arrived, I was terrified of space. I still am, to a greater extent. I have learned to control that fear, however. I have learned not to take food for granted any more - for I had gone from bread and cheese to ... rather bland paste. I learned that I had no money, and had the strange ability to start from the beginning once more ...

[He paused, then said wryly.]

Perhaps it would help if I had ... more guiding questions?

( The things he mentions are all things that Sansa has had to adjust to as well. She's not had a terrible time here in the fleet but it's so different from Westeros that she struggles, sometimes, to comprehend how she's supposed to conduct herself. )

Everyone is so much less formal here. I have taken to introducing myself as simply Sansa, as my titles mean nothing here. It's...unusual.

[He hums softly, laughter splashing through his gaze.]

I spent my first two months using my full title.

( Sansa laughs a little, pink touching her cheeks. )

I have found that people here don't seem to care about titles so I've just gone by Sansa. Of course, if you would prefer, I can still call you Lord Tyrion?

You can just call me Tyrion, my lady. Although I shall of course, call you my lady and Lady Sansa, if you wish. I have learned that formalities are only useful in diplomatic relations with people outside the fleet.

[He paused, then snorted in memory.]

And with our own people when they arrive.

( Sansa shakes her head. If he is to insist that she call him simply Tyrion, she's not going to insist upon more formality from him. They are friends and she doesn't want him to think otherwise. She needs his friendship here. )

You can call me simply Sansa, Tyrion. There's no need to stand on formality with me, I promise. We were married at one point.

[He nods his head with approval at her statement, before he chuckled.]

Yes, to neither of our approvals, if memory serves.

You made a better husband than the second one they forced me to marry.

( Sansa hasn't told anyone this, at all, and she's not certain she could tell it to Tyrion now. Part of her wishes that he already knew so they could leave it unspoken between them. )

Lannisters make better husbands than Boltons.

....Well I imagine rabid dogs make better husbands than Boltons. The only step below that are Freys.

[He stated simply, feeling a sudden sense of uneasiness at the shift in her expression.]

However, I will take the compliment as is, from a Stark. Thank you, Sansa.

( Sansa doesn't flinch when he says that. It had been more than just to compliment him that she'd mentioned it but if he wants to leave it at that, she will not argue it. )

It's true. Are you enjoying your tea, at least?

I am, a great deal, and the company is excellent besides.

[He hesitates, before adding after that.]

I find beverages like this help me with my drinking ...abundance. Coffee, tea, different kinds of water. Helps with the cravings for wine.

You shouldn't drink as much as you did in Westeros. This is a different place and you need your wits about you.

( Sansa supposes that she can admonish him about his drinking since they used to be married; it stands to reason that this is within the purview of a wife. )

.... well thank you, I shall keep that advice on hand whenever I go to the bar.

[He is trying not to smirk, honestly, but he is smiling. It is ... almost sweet that she is concerned about his drinking habits.]

I mean it, Tyrion. You shouldn't drown yourself in wine any more than I should. We have to look out for one another. How can we do that if we're drunk?

.... I promise, Sansa. I will keep my drinking to a minimum. You are right, I do need my wits about me at all times.

I just want to make sure you're all right. We have to look out for one another here, all right?

( Sansa thinks it's her duty to look out for him, since he's from Westeros,
and she hopes he feels the same about her. )

Yes ... yes we do.

[It is something he has said for a long time. Of course it would be Sansa, who finally listens.]

...You are absolutely right on that.

[He smiles, and that smile is softer than it should be.]

I shall have your back, lady wife. Without the wine.

Good. And you cannot let me fall into despair and not care for myself. You know I am prone to that.

( Sansa hasn't done that since the death of her mother and brother but she doesn't know what challenges this place might throw at her. )

...Yes, I have noted that. I also have noted that is you usually biding your time for your move, as well.

[He arched an eyebrow at her knowingly.]

Well, I have to make sure I have explored all the options before I make choices, Tyrion. You know that.

( She colors a little, having been caught. )

Yes, I know. You are very much ... one of a strategic nature. Which is something I have always admired about you.

[Honestly, if their marriage had born any fruit, it would have been that they would have been well suited to play the Game together.]
