[As if waking up on a strange ship alone wasn't enough when Ulaz knew he shouldn't be there, now he was on yet another ship. This really was not funny. His attempts to try and get information through hacking had been poor at best and he was no closer to figuring what had happened.

He had learned one thing though; he did not like confetti. It was not amusing in the least.

He'd been pretty much silent so far - if being a Blade had taught him nothing else, it was how to make as little noise as possible. But now he doesn't really have a choice]

Can someone explain what is going on here? First I was on one ship and now another, neither of them where I should be. This must be a joke.

[And why does he say that? Hmm...]

[she inclines her head politely, but wonders if Galra do handshakes? Or is that just a western thing]

I'm Baku. It's nice to meet you, Ulaz.

I will know them if I see them.

[Partially because he didn't necessarily get the best introductions with the paladins so names aren't the best thing to go by and the Blades can be if-y about giving out real names.

And no, he doesn't really know about shaking hands. He does try to return the greeting though]

[He says it like he's never said it before in his life... because he hasn't]

Is there anything I should know?

[it's almost as if she's used to dealing with non-humans who have no idea how to human. Either way, she doesn't seem bothered by the awkwardness.

She delivers her explanation as precisely as she can, like reporting to a superior]

There's a few things, yes. The most important being that you've been fitted with an augment - [she reaches up to tap behind her ear] - and that it will tell you what your job will be on the ship. I use the term job very loosely, of course.

Don't try to remove it. Bad things happen.

Doudanuki is our captain, you'll probably run into him soon. We're a small crew, but we manage. You're free to travel to other ships as well, if you have friends there. Or if you don't. [Baku don't encourage visiting random ships] There's also the Iskaulit, which has a library, garden, bars, fitness area - they're all ran by people here.

We're currently between planets, but if there's anything you need there's waystations along the way. Or you can attempt to trade with others.

[At least she didn't think he was being weird. He's just not used to the way humans do things... or pretty all other races than Galra.

He listened to the information intently. He did appreciate the succinct with which she told him all of this. Military reports he was used to.

When she mentioned the augment, he mirrored her, bringing his hand back to touch where his own was. Probably explains the feeling the first day of arriving. Also good to know not to try and remove it. That might have been his first thought, but it sounded like that wasn't good to do]

That is good information.

[And then after a pause]

Lab support. That seems to be my job.

[soon enough he'll learn he's ended up on a ship with two other non-humans and it will make sense. But she doesn't want to overwhelm him with things he may not understand . . . yet.

Maybe she'll leave that part to the captain]

That's an important position. [at least, she thinks it is] I think that means that the lab is yours. And there's a room for you to sleep in as well, of course.

[...] If you need sleep, I mean.

Do you have any other questions? Or would you like a tour of the ship?

[It's probably better to let the captain fill him in on the fact that no one on this ship is human. All he has to go on is by appearance so he would make the assumption that she is by that alone]

It is. I've been in a similar role before so I'm not surprised that this was the one I was given. I suppose I will have to investigate to see how things differ from what I know.

[Aside from the whole morbid part of his job before. He doesn't want to see that.

He's also seriously wondering if the bed is going to be tall enough for him. He'll make do if he has to, but random curiosity which will eventually be answered]

A tour would be helpful.

[she turns on her heel and starts towards the hallway, making a gesture for him to follow. She walks slow, shoving her hands in her pockets] It's near the back of the ship.

[Ulaz followed after her, not even really needing to be told. He was keeping track of what was around him and the places she showed him so that he would remember where they were]

Did I understand correctly that these facilities are not on the ship until someone with a certain job shows up?

That's what I've heard. I don't know if it disappears if someone leaves the ship for good, though. But there's a lab, and I have an office because of my own position.

[she stops and gestures to the end of the hallway, where the door to the lab is]

That's yours. And I guess - you can choose an empty room? There's a few.

What is your position on the ship?

[He paused when they reached the door that was supposed to be the lab. He opened it, stepping just inside to survey it. It was definitely not like the Galra Empire's rooms, thankfully. He would have worried if it were. He didn't take long before he stepped back out again. He would have plenty of time especially on a small ship like this to see what supplies he had been given; she was still showing him around]

If all of the rooms are the same, it really doesn't matter which one. The one closest available to the lab would be most practical.

[Not that he couldn't run there if need be, but that would be easier]

I'm personnel. My understanding of it is that I'm some sort of counselor, if it's needed.

[Baku politely remains just outside of the lab, leaning in just enough to peer around curiously. She hasn't been in here herself, but mostly that was out of there being no need]

Mmm, that's very practical.

[If she really wanted to come in, he wouldn't stop her from looking around. From the sound of it, this was a new area on the ship so it was normal to be curious. He did want to have a chance to catalog what was there so he could keep track. He'd been more possessive of his supplies on the Galra cruiser, but considering what he had been doing behind their backs... Currently, he had no such possession aside from keeping track of what were potentially limited supplies]

Surprising that they have a counselor when everyone here didn't have a choice.

[Not that he's going to object]

It could save time in an emergency.

[Hopefully, there was not too much of a reason to worry about, but there was no guaranteeing it. And he's ready to continue the tour if she didn't want to look at the lab yet]

There have been some events here that, were we in a normal world, would call for the need of a counselor, I suppose. [she leans against the doorway and crosses her arms] I'm not human, but I have a feeling I was chosen because of my close ties to humanity.

Or because the Atroma think they have a sense of humor.

[she wouldn't be surprised in the least. Curiosity does have her stepping fully into the lab after a moment, though] Is it suitable? [the lab, that is]

You're not human? What are you then?

[He hadn't even seen "humans" until Shiro but now he was finding out there were more races that looked like them. How many different races like them were there?

But in regards to the lab-]

Yes, it is suitable. I can go through and see what is here on my own time.

[Yes, it was important to know, but she was showing him around and currently there was no immediate need to have gone through the supplies]

[not just her name, but a description. She doubts he knows what a baku is, though, given how many humans in general didn't seem to know]

Mm, okay. What do you want to see next? There's a kitchen and a - I think they call it a recreation area? There's karaoke.

[Ulaz just stared. The word "baku" had no meaning to him, but dream-eating spirit was interesting]

I can't say that I have ever heard of a baku before.

Kitchen would probably be best, then the recreation area.

["Karaoke" also has no meaning to him]

That's fine, most people haven't. I'm pretty exclusive to the country I live in now and the one I was born in.

Okay, kitchen's this way - [she pushes off the doorway to head back down to the kitchen area] Can I ask what planet you come from? I'm not familiar with your kind, either.

[Ulaz followed after her as she moved away from the lab and started down the area towards the kitchen]

The Galra are originally from the planet Daibazaal. Ten thousand years ago the planet became unstable and was destroyed. However, this hasn't stopped the Galra Empire from expanding their reaches to the known universe under Zarkon's reign.

[Yes, he knows about the Galra, but she's definitely going to get the negative view of the empire here. Too bad there is no such thing as a neutral opinion of them]

[the negative view is curious, but she doesn't seem too surprised, either. She'll accept any view, as long as it answers her curiosity]

I'm assuming that original planet is outside of our Solar System? Or has things changed in the time you're from?

[It would make more sense if she knew that he was basically fighting the Empire in order to stop what they were doing. Of course that may come up in due course of this conversation]

If you mean Earth, yes, Daibazaal was outside of that system. Very far out. The Earth I know became a safe haven for something that needed to be hidden from the Empire. And it wasn't found for ten thousand years despite the Empire's expansion.

Heeeh . . . [there's a bit of interest in your drawling hum, more than before] A lot of people like to hide important things on Earth, I've noticed. It's good that it wasn't found, yes?

Very. If Zarkon had managed to find all five, it would have been disastrous for the universe. They are the only things have the ability to stop him.

Eventually they did find it, but I'd guess the rightful pilot of the machine found it first considering it was with them and not with Zarkon.

Ah. Then I'm glad the right person found it first. It all sounds a bit complicated, though.

[as they approach the kitchen, Baku stops to allow Ulaz to go on ahead] We don't have a cook, so it's pretty much a free for all. But if there's anything in particular that you need, let me know. I can probably track it down.

It is. It is a long story, but those machines are better being controlled by someone else than Zarkon. If he did end up with them, nothing would be safe.

[Yeah, he pretty much just said the ruler of his own race can't be trusted with whatever was on Earth and it is completely true based on what he's seen]

I will let you know if I think of anything I need.

Mmm. I'll take your word for it. As long as no one gets hurt with them in control by whoever has them now.

[if she caught onto that, she doesn't flinch or even blink. She's a hard nut to crack]

Okay. I think that's it, really - the bridge is that way, [she gestures as she speaks] and you know where the cargo area is. Everything else is off ship on the Iskaulit.
