[ As far as Eithan is concerned, Mikleo knows exactly what he's doing and isn't just making this crap up as he goes along. Not at all. So he's just as surprised when a fire happens! Which, of course, gets put out quickly. So he just snickers, amused. ]

Weird combination of chemicals or somethin'? Heh. What's that all supposed to tell you anyway?

[Dammit, Eithan, how dare you notice him now. He was doing just fine until the fire started.]

...It's supposed to help detect poisons or impurities in the food. Theoretically.

[He waves a hand over the surface of the table, trying to blow away some of the lingering smoke. Now his samples are soggy...]

[ Oh, just lucky timing~ ]

Ohh. Did you see anything before it caught on fire? ... Then got soaked? ... D'you need more food?

[ He jerks his thumb toward the nearby convenience store. At least there's no worry about wasting anything?? ]

[Awkward shuffle.]

Results were... inconclusive.

[Okay he probably did it wrong.]

[ ... Welp. ]

I'll get you a different food to try then. Maybe somethin' less flammable. [ Beat. ] Though I was pretty sure you couldn't set cookies on fire. So. That's kinda impressive.

[ Eithan, maybe just walk away before you get water dumped over your head. ]

[Buddy, it is real tempting. Eithan gets a glowering look for that comment, which is warning #1.]

Evidently the mixture of some chemicals can cause spontaneous combustion. Which isn't common knowledge! So it's an easy mistake.

[SEE YOU DIDN'T KNOW EITHER, SO DON'T BE JUDGING!]

[ Warning received! Jury's out on how long he'll behave, but at least for now, he will. ... He's still obviously very amused though~ ]

At least now you know which ones do that, right?

[ SALUTE!! Aaand he wanders off to grab some stuff from the corner store~ Won't be gone long, he comes back with like two bags of potato chips, an individually-wrapped chocolate snack cake, and a bottle of green tea. ]

Hope these'll be okay. ... Though we could just eat 'em if not, at least.

[Mikleo squints at the items, checking each one individually - trying to read the labels for any ingredients and not getting very far with it - then shrugs and pours a sample of the tea into a cup to start poking away at. Half of the fun is not knowing, anyway.]

What's been your experience with the food here? Any issues?

No issues, no. Hell, it all tastes fine to me. It just seems so weird - how's this stuff keep showin' up? It's too good to be true. You know?

Yeah, I know. Without any sort of explanation, I'd rather play it safe than share whatever fate befell the people who used to live here.
