I. Grocery Store

[Planning on taking some food for yourself? Well, there's suddenly the sharp, authoritative sound of a child trying to sound like a grown man worker here who isn't going to just stand by while you take food! Takeshi adjusts his chair so he's tall enough to be seen over the top of a register, or is going to make his way over to where you stand!!

And what's that on his shirt? A pin?



It is a manager's pin, indeed! And a too-long uniform apron. He puts his hands on his hips.]

Excuse me, but we shouldn't just take food! Stealing's wrong.

Bring it over to the cash register and I'll ring you up, okay?!

II. Slushies

[Takeshi is indeed making himself a slushie, and slurps it up with a furrowed brow as he stares at the broken window near the back of the store. Interesting. To the nearest person, he says, without looking away from the damning thing:]

That's been broken for days when I come make my morning slushie...

I thought it was all supposed to fix itself?

[He seems like he's gonna say more, but then clinical brain freeze strikes, and he holds his head in his hand with the utmost regret (until the next time he makes one).]

III. Amusement Park

[Wow... Honestly, this is crazy...!! He's never gotten to be at a real amusement park before. Where does he even begin? Well, first thing's first, see who else is around this place; after all, they could all have fun together, right? If they get a nice planet, they gotta indulge in the rides and stuff! But also, who in their right mind would get on this roller-coaster thing? Seems like a bad idea waiting to happen...

... Bet I'd be pretty good at these cool booth games...]

[Kramm sputters in confusion for a moment - he agrees, stealing is wrong and he hadn't planned on doing it, but until now he hadn't seen anyone to check him out. He chuckles and reaches up to scratch his chin thoughtfully as he follows.]

Oh, absolutely! Sorry if I gave you the impression otherwise ... I've been leaving coin on that counter over there, have you gotten it? I wasn't sure where to leave it. Glad you're here now, though. Been working here long?

[He's unsure if he's talking to a human child or a halfling, so he's assuming halfling because that would make more sense to him in this situation.]

[ It’s been a long time since he has been to any sort of theme park, and it fills him with the same sort of excitement as it had when his parents had taken him to Six Flags a few years before things went sour. Even though it’s devoid of people save for the fleet members that happen to be milling about, and rides that seem to be self-running, it’s still cool as hell. He’s wandering around on his own today, wondering where he should even start with the park when he runs into Takeshi, who is equally alone. ]

Hey, Takeshi. Been on any of the rides yet?

Oh, hi, Carl!

[He waves, content to get new company.]

I haven't been on anything yet; I'm kinda nervous... but they all look cool!

[The kid who flies in space ships and fights cannibals is nervous about rides.

Go figure.]

I remember feeling like that the first time I saw rides like this. It was kind of scary until I got on, then that's all I wanted to do.

[ He nods his head in the direction of a few of the entrances. ]

I'll ride with you. Pick one to start with.

[Oh man, this is a difficult choice. There's so many, and they all look so different... The really, really tall ones are admittedly a little intimidating... but—!!]

How about the big swinging boat? That's pretty cool...! I've never been on a real boat before.

That's a good one to start with, c'mon. With these, it's more fun to sit at the very end if you can.

[ He waits for Takeshi to join him before moving toward the ride. ]

[Oh, he's joinin', he's leaping into action! Though as fast as he was to jump onto the ride, he also looks a little skittish, hands in his lap and eyes wide as he scans the ride. Is it just gonna... start once they're in it...?]

Have you - ridden this kinda ride before?

[ Carl pulls down the lap bar once they're settled, taking off his hat so it doesn't blow away. ]

A few times before, yeah. Normally there's someone who starts and stops it, but these seem to go on their own.

... I hope they're not meaAAN—

[That's the sound of Takeshi's voice flying off in the wind as they start moving rather quickly.

The kid who has fought giant monsters and evil spaceships grabs Carl's arm with some panic.]

Whoa!!

[...that is peculiar. aizawa squints over at the machine; maybe whatever reset this thing goes back to is after the window is broken?

takeshi makes a mournful sound and grabs at his forehead and aizawa grabs a room temperature bottle of water from the shelf, screwing it open and handing it to him without looking.] Sip that, it'll go away. [he's gonna go investigate that window, not that he expects to find anything.]

[throwsdown]

[He's sipping, he's sipping! And as he does he watches Aizawa with interest.

Five glugs into it, he commentates.]

Whaddya' think? How come it's not fixing?

[expellerhead]

Don't know. [...takes his comm out and snaps a pic of it before looking around, grabbing a can off the shelf and using it to smash some more of the glass, a hand out to make sure takeshi doesn't wander over into the spray zone]

[throwsdown]

[Oh gosh, smashing stuff, how exciting—

Wait no, that's rude! Respect other people's property!]

Hey, you shouldn't go busting up someone's shop like that...!

[expellerhead]

[smashes more, carefully picking shards of glass out of the frame and tossing them out onto the sidewalk] I'll pay for the window if it doesn't repair itself. [do not emulate him, small child]

[throwsdown]

[Oh... Oh! He makes fists with his hands, eyes practically sparkling.]

You're seeing how it changes tomorrow! Right?!

[expellerhead]

Exactly. [gives takeshi a contemplative look, then after a moment holds out the can he'd been using to smash the rest of the window. wanna help?]

[Alistair remembers the child from the planet with the red everything and cannibals. A ship captain, he thinks if he's heard correctly. And a good fighter as well. When he hears the boy's voice, he turns and looks to where he is looking.]

Maybe that's something that's been broken since before all of the automatic things started? There are a few tree stumps not that far from the town proper that look like they've been there for a while instead of regrowing.

[He notices the wince and grimaces in sympathy.]

Don't hold the straw so close to the roof of your mouth. That only makes it worse.

[HNNNGH JUST A MOMENT... JUST A MOMENT... OKAY, BETTER.

He's still holding his noggin, pained.]

Then...! It's not just replacing stuff...? Or maybe it is, but with time!

That sounds weird...

Something like that. I don't know for sure, but it makes as much sense as it magically replenishing everything everyday for no specific reason.

So... Maybe that's how they made it easy to live here! They just kept remaking things.

But then — why'd they all leave...? Something's real off.

I agree that there's something wrong with this place. If everything regenerates every day like this, there has to be something that took them or killed them without damaging the buildings and items kept here.

It feels like a ghost town, if I'm honest.

[He can't help but feel a deep sadness at that. It's not his first time running into something where people used to live — and then abruptly... painfully... didn't. He can only hope that they're not literal ghosts here.]

I hope they got out... Like the planet that blew up. Maybe they got out.

[Alistair stops staring out of the window to stare down at the boy at his side, his face a strange mixture of horror and curiosity.]
