[Heh. Smiling a little, she took another bite of whatever was left of her ice cream.]

Good. [Another bite, a little longer of sitting in companionable silence, before offering:] So was there something else you wanted to ask me about?

[Since, well, they'd gone through the trouble of sitting down and getting ice cream and all. Might as well make sure his questions were all cleared up before heading out.]

[he has all sorts of questions - but what she'd told him already had been more than enough, even him. And the last thing he wanted was the poor girl to upset herself. God only knew that if he got further into the complicated mess that was his life, it wouldn't go well]

Uh - [so eloquent] What ship did you end up on? For reference.

The Vanquish, for now. But I'm going to try to transfer to Sokka's ship -- the Blue Fish. [A quick smile.] What about you?

[privateeyed]

I'm on the Huntress. Got a feeling I'm gonna spend a lot of time on the bigger ship, though. Not a fan of smaller spaces, you know?

Yeah... [She's trying not to think about that. The ships are large enough, she supposes, but that one time of getting buried alive in the Earth Kingdom made her a little leery of small spaces as well.] I'm not really looking forward to that. But I hear the Iskaulit has a garden, and more space to work out.

[privateeyed]

Saw there were a couple of bars, too. [you know, the important stuff] And a library, I think? 'Least there's plenty to do.

I'm going to see if I can find someone to teach me how to fly one of those ships really well. [And maybe they'll be a place to continue her medical studies somewhere or... something to do.] I'll have to check out the library.

[She's... really... not looking forward to doing so much sitting and thinking.]

[privateeyed]

I'd do the same, but I probably shouldn't drive one unless it's necessary. [he scratches at his cheek] Might do the same. I've read everything in my apartment, so new stuff is almost exciting.

[he tries to keep busy but he does a lot of sitting and nothing sometimes]

[She gives him one of those sisterly-teasing glances.]

...is there new reading material outside your apartment at home?

[As in: Are you playing hermit? How dare you, go out and meet people find new books.]

And deal with people when I'm not on the clock? Hell no.

I find that the people are the best part about places like this. [A little shrug.] But I imagine those ships are going to get very crowded, very quickly, so I guess you're going to have to figure out a balance.

I'm pretty good at making myself scarce. [he says it jokingly, but] But if I have to, then I'll do it. I just won't like it.

[ She almost laughs as she says: ] Not with that attitude!

[ Nope, actually, no almost about it. She's totally laughing at both 1) the fact that she just said that and 2) the fact that she feels totally justified in saying that. ] C'mon, this wasn't so bad, right? At least you got ice cream out of it?

[privateeyed]

[he keeps a straight face about the whole thing, lifting the bowl to sip the rest of his ice cream]

I'll admit that this wasn't bad, but you can't tell anyone. Got a reputation to uphold. [...] Build up. Same difference.

Right. Cross my heart. [She even does the motion, thank you, Earth!friends!] And what's that reputation again, just so I know?

[privateeyed]

You mean you haven't picked up on how charming I am? [the sarcasm is laid on thick]

[She just grins at him, completely unrepentant and unphased.] You should meet my friend Zuko. Trust me, I've had to learn just how overrated charming is.

[And then - a little wry shake of her head at herself.] Although sometimes it's still nice to hear.

[privateeyed]

Being actually charming is absolutely overrated. [that isn't what she meant, Ben]

Nice to hear what? A jackass admitting he's a jackass?

Nah, [shaking her head]. Someone being charming. It's nice to hear. Pretty words, you know? [Shrug.] But that's all they are, if they're not backed up.

[A little laugh.] I met a guy in Luceti who was very charming. I could hardly believe a word coming out of his mouth. And he had this thing about opening doors for me? We got into a whole conversation about it once, because... that's not really a thing where I'm from, and I didn't understand what he was doing or why he was doing it.

[Wow, she hadn't thought about that in a long time. She shifts a little to set the bowl down in the space between them.]

Holy shit. [he sounds so amused] He did the whole gentleman thing? I thought girls were supposed to hate that. It's sort of a - I don't know, some girls are probably still into it. Kind of out of my field of expertise, if you get what I mean.

[She does get what he means and she nods but she's grinning too because it was so weird and it's kind of nice to be able to talk about something silly.]

Yeah, he had to explain it to me, something about... chivalry? [Stretching back in her memory now, it was fairly early on.] And how it wasn't about girls being 'weaker' but it was about... oh, how did he put it... being polite. And showing respect. And so I let him, because I didn't want to make him feel rude or anything, but... it took some getting used to.

[As in, sometimes she'd forget and go for the door and he'd race to beat her. It was flattering and flustering for her, and also very strange.]

[privateeyed]

Yeah, sounds about right. [he snorts, leaning over to drop his bowl into Katara's] I mean - holding the door for someone's just polite, but running to do it? That's a new level of trying too hard.

What, he'd have a thing for you or something? Trying to impress?

[Her eyes widen with something akin to alarm.] Oh, I don't think so. Or if he did, he never said anything.

[He did; she's clueless; it's sad.]

He was that way with a lot of girls. [Hmm, then why did Michael...] I think he did it just because he knew it threw me off a little. He was the sort of person that liked to tease like that, you know?
