What do you think about this place?

Other than unsettling? It feels like a trap or a warning to us.

[ He nods. ]

I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. It doesn't feel right, and it shouldn't be this empty.

[ It reminds him too much of the desolate wasteland that's become of home, entire towns abandoned and dead, only to be confronted by a wave of undead. Carl keeps anticipating one. Or at least something. ]

No. The best thing to do is approach it warily and take what we can.

[ There's no real sympathy in Loki's face. He doesn't have the empathy to feel for a people long gone. Why would he? ]

They can't use it, wherever they are. Dead, probably. It would fit the mold of what we've run into in the past.

What mold?

Death and destruction. There was a planet a few months ago we had to evacuate to a local waystation because of a meteor. The next few generations might be able to live there once everything settles. The planet after that was full of cannibals who shot down half the fleet while the rest of us were stuck in the sky.

Assholes tried to board the ships for sacrifices, but we held them off okay. There were some old fleet members that came to help, though I've never seen them before.

So the worlds vary in terms of intensity?

Yeah. The one before this was nice. There were three planets and they all had their own weather. It was a good place to stock up. Nothing bad happened.

[ Hmm. ]

So the planets we are taken to . . . they're not random.

I really don't think they are. Not at this point.

[ He nods. ]

Are there records in the Fleet? I'd like to look at them.

They're posted to the network. I know there are physical copies of things that others have found out in the library, too. One of the other captains may have their own hard copy.

[ He grimaces. ]

Wonderful. Another thing to find.

They shouldn't be that hard to track down. Having a physical copy is a little harder for the Atroma to mess with, at least.

Is there a physical copy?

There should be one in the library. People have been collaborating on it for a long time, now. It would be stupid to keep everything we find on the planets on our communicators.
