It's quite the embuggerance to be stuck as he is. The roller coaster had been such fun, but now he's sitting at the top of a rather steep hill, seated in the train of the ride. Death pulls up the feed and almost seems sheepish as he settles the device down to show his situation.

I'VE NEVER ENJOYED A RIDE LIKE THIS BEFORE, BUT I'M QUITE SURE IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO DO THIS. ERM...

Death squirms a bit in the seat and very quickly summons a scythe, which he pulls himself up by and out of the seat, restraints and all. The feed is held up in his other hand as he takes several steps forward until he's physically standing on the track of the roller coaster. Death kneels down and sets down the communicator, now holding on to the scythe with both hands.

THERE WE ARE. I HAD RIDDEN THIS THING QUITE A NUMBER OF TIMES, SO I SUPPOSE IT WAS INEVITABLE THAT THE THING WOULD BREAK WHILE I WAS USING IT.

Nor anyone in mine. [Okay starting to relax now; this iteration of Death is a lot friendlier than the one at home...or at least less tired of his stupid job, maybe. And it's nice to talk about this stuff with someone as used to traversing through planes of existence as Castiel is.] It's why I was startled when I saw you. I thought you were here for a high-profile Reaping.

A PLANET. QUITE UNIQUE, AND YET BURDENED WITH THE TRAPPINGS OF HAVING BEEN INHABITED BY LIVING BEINGS WITH HIGHER BRAIN FUNCTIONS. BOREDOM IS UNCOMMONLY UNIVERSAL.

[Okay well Cas wasn't going to mention it but yeah, also all the things humans come up with to alleviate boredom are likewise boring] ...I'm sorry, [Cas settles on eventually, because while he doesn't mind ragging on humans to Dean and Sam, he doesn't want to do it with some stranger who has infinite perspective. Just feels like...badmouthing your baby cousin to your coworkers.] I suppose something like this must be a vacation for you, then.

[It's quite all right. Death actually likes talking about people, although he would find it at least a little distasteful to badmouth individuals if they do not deserve it.]

WHATEVER FOR? YOU'VE NEITHER DONE NOR SAID ANYTHING TO OFFEND. [He's going to carefully make his way down the hill, using his scythe as a walking stick.] VACATIONS ARE RARELY RESTFUL FOR ME. IF I AM NOT DOING MY JOB, IT MEANS SOMETHING HAS GONE VERY WRONG.

Do you have no one to assume your responsibilities in your stead? [Sure he's Death, but like...it's death. It happens regardless, doesn't it? ....except for that one time, when Alistair was killing all the reapers in the area, but eventually more reapers would've shown up.]

I DO, BUT SHE IS...GRUMPY AT THE BEST OF TIMES ABOUT HAVING TO STEP IN. STRICTLY SPEAKING, IT IS NARRATIVE CAUSALITY THAT DESIGNATES HER MY UNDERSTUDY, BUT SHE'D RATHER BLAME HER LINEAGE. I THINK SHE CONSIDERS IT MORE COMFORTING THAT WAY.

I KNEW IT WOULD HAPPEN. SUCH THINGS ALWAYS DO IN THE END. THANK YOU, THOUGH. I NEVER ANTICIPATED EVER LEARNING WHAT MOURNING FELT LIKE. THE EMOTION IS QUITE INTENSE.

It is. [YOU GET IT!] Not long ago, I thought I'd lost my most beloved friend forever. The grief I felt was unimaginable, and yet, I know if I were human it would be even stronger.

I HAD TO TAKE SOME TIME OFF FROM MY JOB TO PROCESS THINGS. THERE WAS A PUB AND THEN I FOUND OUT MY GRANDCHILD HAD BEEN PEGGED AS A NECESSARY STAND-IN. [His voice drops slightly in pitch, almost in a wistful way.] SHE FORGAVE ME, THOUGH. I AM GRATEFUL FOR THAT.
