[ Yeeaaah, very little experience with kids. But it's Ochako - someone she cares for a pretty great deal. (... Plus, the last time she saw her, Ochako managed to convince her to play on the playground. That's gotta mean something.) ]

Being ineffective. [it's delivered ruefully; aizawa isn't used to it either, and he knows jayden has some experience with it to the detriment of her own emotional fortitude. nobody deals with it well, but this sort of hopeless repetition isn't good for uraraka in particular in this stage of her development as a hero.

aizawa cradles his mug between his knees to give his hands something to do.]

Back home she would be able to rack up successes alongside failures. Maybe it would be unbalanced there too, but not like it is here. On top of that she doesn't have the support network she has back home; her classmates, her parents. [all she has is him. well, and others, but not like she would at home.] I'm worried she's...getting attached to the wrong things. [again, him. their relationship can no longer be safely categorized as teacher and student; it's much closer to mentor now, which is DANGEROUSLY close to parent.]

[ Being ineffective... She nods when he says it - because yes, she definitely has some experience there, and she wouldn't wish it on anyone. Especially not a hero. Especially not a young hero who's still learning what it all means.

She tilts her head a bit as she considers his last statement. ]

[ Bit of a conversational nudge. Because those are all pretty different things to consider, after all, once you get to the bottom of it. ]

Wrong ideas. [things or people...they don't have as much control over. ideas, that's pretty much the only thing they can control.] She might be getting impatient. I need to find a way to discourage that without killing her drive, since her drive may be the only thing keeping her going here, at times.

[ Nod. ] First thing that comes to mind is giving her a win. But that wouldn't be easy. With too much of the situation out of our hands, it's hard to find ways to let her succeed the way she should. [ Thinking... ] Have you asked her how she feels lately? About everything, not just day-to-day how-are-you.

[no he has not, for reasons quite possibly related to her 'latching on to the wrong idea'] Mm. It's been on the list.

[ Eyebrow raise ] Maybe bump it up the list. ... [ idea? ] Or I could.

[ Jayden knows she's not the best with kids, and also prone to not talking to people about her own feelings or whatever, but she can listen. At the very least. Especially if it's Ochako that needs it. ]

If you want, but not for my sake. [yeah this is the problem with her missing almost her entire support system from home; aizawa has to at least half-fill those shoes, and some of them he's very inept at filling.] ...I'll figure this out. It's my own problem.

[ ... Yeah, now that the idea's in her head, she's gonna end up doing it. Even if not for his sake. (Though still kind of would be. Just not entirely.) ]

Don't have to figure it out alone. [ Just a reminder, not a push. Not that he needs either. ] I think she'll be honest about her feelings, even if she doesn't know exactly what it is she might need. And that's a start.

I think she might have an easier time with that with someone else. [true, as her teacher his students should be able to come to him with anything, but at the same time he knows that his students want to prove to him how capable they are. his style's always been more geared toward observation and quietly putting in place procedures to meet their needs.] ...all right. Yeah. Please do talk to her.

I will. [ Though of course, the question becomes: outright ask, or wait for a good time? ... Well, she doesn't need to figure that out right this second. ]

Can I ask what's made you worry? Did something happen, or is it just everything in general?

Something I try to keep in the back of my mind. Talking about how long we've been here just...brought it to the forefront. [and that unspoken threat that they may never get back home.]
