[Beverly is onscreen, the Blue Fish's med bay, still intact, behind her. Her jaw is set with determination as she talks.]

Attention, Drift Fleet. This is Dr. Beverly Crusher of the USS... of the SS Blue Fish. I know some of you have taken significant damage to your ships, possibly to your sickbays, and that others do not have a medic on board. Fortunately, our sickbay survived the attack, so I am offering it as a central location to help the wounded while repairs are being made elsewhere. We have a small supply of blood on hand as well, should anyone need it. If any member of your crew is too severely injured to be moved, please let me know, and I will come to you. No payments will be necessary for any treatment.

Thank you for your time.

[She signs off with a grim smile.]

The bridge is in worse shape than sickbay, but it's nothing we can't fix. We don't have a pilot yet, so the damage could have been much worse, if it weren't for Sokka's quick thinking and Hawke's good aim.

[ Her head tilts, hand coming up to rest her chin against. ]

Good news indeed. Our own ship lacked shields, yet we had both offensive and evasive capabilities to avoid too much damage.

I'm glad. Hopefully we can help get the other ships that didn't fare so well back in working order.

It is times like there where adventurers shine the brightest. [ She grins. ] Although I know not how many would consider themselves adventurers here, we all seem willing enough to do what it takes in order to ensure our repairs.

[She grins back.] I wouldn't be in Starfleet if I didn't consider myself an adventurer.

A doctor and an adventurer both. Well met, indeed. Are there any other notable talents you employ?

[Hello, O'danya, meet the most hilariously overqualified person in this fleet. Fortunately, she's not one to brag... nor does she necessarily see many of her skills as particularly extraordinary, when many of them are par for the course for any Starfleet officer. She colors slightly.]

Well, I do dabble in the theatre... I've never been a professional, mind you, but I help put on plays on the Enterprise. And I suppose you could argue I know quite a bit about robotics, but I'm no engineer.

[ Oh, it's okay. O'danya is one of the hilariously most overqualified people in Eorzea, so she knows the feeling. ]

Plays, is that right? Why, that's rather impressive! My only skill in presentation would be my songs and I'm afraid most would find them unpalatable for polite company... [ Not because they're tawdry or anything but because the ones she likes most are to motivate her friends in battle. But, you know, details. ] If you've interest in robotics and similar mechanics, I should hope you someday have the opportunity to meet my friends. It seems I attract the type who enjoys working metals and concoctions.

[Laughing] Polite company or not, I'd like to hear you sing sometime. It's fascinating to me how music seems to be a universal constant between species.

Now, we may not always agree on what constitutes as good music, but rarely do you run into a species that does not enjoy it on some level.

It would be my pleasure. A world without music is one in which I would not be nearly as comfortable. To imagine that there are some who might not possess it at all...

[ It's a thought she hadn't considered. As open-minded as she may be, there's only so far open she can get before running into territory never before considered much less challenged. ]

I have never run across a humanoid species who did not have some form of music... but for species with different kinds of sensory perceptions, music does not always appeal to them the way it does to us.

Different kinds of sensory perceptions...?

[ That one is a bit above her head. All species have the same sort of sensory input, no matter if it is weaker in some and stronger in others. ]

Yes. Tholians, for example, emit several forms of radiation beyond our own thermal radiation and use that to communicate with one another. Trill symbionts, on the other hand, use electric impulses. And there are several species that are space-dwelling, so of course, sound doesn't carry in the vacuum of space, so music would mean very little to them. Other species are energy-based, and so have no corporeal bodies at all.

[ Wow, she looks... rather overwhelmed from all the terms and the ideas. Nothing negative, just a whole lot to take in and conceptualize or otherwise try to make correlations to in order to understand. ]

Such as a manner of spirit?

[Since they're still in space and on a starship, Beverly sometimes unfortunately forgets that not all of them share the same points of reference. She looks appropriately apologetic about it though when she sees O'danya's confusion.]

That would be a good comparison, yes. To be honest, we don't completely understand how energy-based beings perceive the world... I find it difficult sometimes to wrap my head around the thought of not having a body with which to interact with the world.

[ It's nothing to be embarrassed about. Speaking in eloquent terms is another way to learn, in O'danya's mind. She just needs to find references that might give her a better place to start processing it. ]

It shouldn't be too disorienting, I imagine. Much like feeling out strong aetheric currents... but in a way that encompasses everything important.

Perhaps I am just too stuck in my poor limited corporeal form to comprehend. [She is clearly joking, as she says this with an exaggerated sigh.] At least, I am sure that is what Q would say.

Q? [ Her mind drifts to puks, absently, before she rights herself with a shake of her head. Probably not what Beverly was getting at... Probably. ] What do you mean by that?

He is one such energy being who apparently has been "testing" humanity's potential for years. Mainly he's just made himself a complete and utter nuisance.

Is he dangerous?

[ That's really her only point of reference for intelligent energy beings: Primals or Ascians. Hydaelyn might count, but the Mothercrystal is the exception to the rule. ]

Very. But he's not necessarily evil. He's like... well, he's like our television audience here. [She waves her hands around vaguely in indication of the cameras they can't see but she is certain are there, watching them.] He enjoys placing us in unusual and sometimes dangerous predicaments to see how we will respond.

Someone with too much power and no sense to wield it, then.

[ It seems even beings beyond their comprehension still have mortal foibles just like the rest of them. ]

Exactly. Even his own people thought so. They punished him by making him human for a time.

"For a time"? Only a temporary punishment?

[She snorts derisively.] Unfortunately, yes.

[All right, be fair now Beverly. Begrudgingly, she admits:] He did risk his life to save our ship, so they lifted his punishment.
