[The Space Bar staff made good use of the ever-replenishing alcohol supply at their last stop, and Nami and Remy got around to discussing the idea of testing various experimental mixes to come up with new additions for the menu.  I mean, add to that Nami hasn't made a decision which one of the applicants should take the main bar job, so clearly the best idea is to shove them all into one place and ply them with alcohol while they talk to each other and work it out after that.

No, it's a good idea.  Shut up.

...okay.  It may just be a good excuse for a party.  Sue her.]

[he nods, pleased that he got it right] Don't know much about it, but - I had a lot of free time back home sometimes. You get bored with American TV real quick.

I'm not sure I see the correlation there. Our stories are myth. They'll hardly die out.

[privateeyed]

I mean, yeah, there's people who literally study that stuff their entire lives - 'course it won't die out.

[dothelokimotion]

[ Loki's not that familiar with midgardian academia beyond Jane Foster. ]

[privateeyed]

Yup. People go to school and go on to become historians, travel the world and research whatever their area of interest is. I as real into military history as a kid - would've done that if I hadn't enlisted.

[dothelokimotion]

[ That much he is at least familiar with. ]

Why a soldier?

[privateeyed]

We were in the middle of war. [his tone sombers, just the tiniest bit] And I come from a military family - throw a stone at reunions and you're guaranteed to hit someone who's served in one of the branches. That and I wanted to be like my dad. So, I enlisted.

[dothelokimotion]

[ Wanting to be like my dad. His lip curls. ]

Was it worth it?

[privateeyed]

[he raises an eyebrow at the reaction, but doesn't comment]

I mean, it depends on how you want to look at it. I was damn good at what I did, got honored for it and for some other shit, served my country, but -

[he knocks on the surface of the bar, the noise dull and metallic] I didn't walk away in one piece. So it goes both ways.

I suppose most things do, in the end.

[ Nothing is quite so cut and dry. ]

Yeah, nothing's just black and white. For all the "worth it" reasons I could give, I got just as many "not worth it" ones. So I don't bother saying it's either anymore - makes life easier when people want to argue with me about it.

I wasn't that invested in an argument.

[ And he could play both sides easily. Loki just likes to stir up trouble. ]

Nah, I mean in general. I didn't think you were looking for an argument.

[he finally finishes off his beer and sets the bottle aside]

Everyone has an opinion.

[ That's what makes people so easy to manipulate. ]

[privateeyed]

[he snorts] They're like assholes - everyone's got one. Especially if you do something they don't like.

Oh? Such as?

[privateeyed]

[he makes a thoughtful noise]

I'd get a few opinionated folks when I'd get home on leave. Not a lot of people were for the war, which - y'know, no shit, it was a stupid war - but they'd tell me all about it just 'cause I was in uniform.

On the other side, I'm against a stupid fad in my world now, even if I technically have the parts myself. But it's a little different.

[ Loki gives a thoughtful hum at that. ]

I take it your world hasn't known peace for some time.

[privateeyed]

I mean, we're at peace now, technically. War's been over for a few years now.

But nah, shit's chaotic all the time.

[dothelokimotion]

[ He hums. Mortals lead such short lives. He will never understand their pursuit into warfare, though Loki can grasp the reasons easily. ]

So what about you? Your world? [...] Uh, and I guess your Earth if you've been there?

Earth is not mine nor will it ever be.

As for my world, it perished not long ago.

I meant "your" as in, the one in the universe you come from, dude.
