[The Space Bar staff made good use of the ever-replenishing alcohol supply at their last stop, and Nami and Remy got around to discussing the idea of testing various experimental mixes to come up with new additions for the menu.  I mean, add to that Nami hasn't made a decision which one of the applicants should take the main bar job, so clearly the best idea is to shove them all into one place and ply them with alcohol while they talk to each other and work it out after that.

No, it's a good idea.  Shut up.

...okay.  It may just be a good excuse for a party.  Sue her.]

I learned where I was before. Sokka made me a collapsible staff, but it didn't come with me.

[Oh. Emotions flitted over her face and she wasn't sure what was the best path to take.

...oh, screw it. She gives a little, conspiratorial smirk.]

Really?

[Honestly her eyes light up.] I've never taught someone before-- or well, obviously I have, but-- [To her memory it's never been something anyone needed from her.] Ahh, I'm kind of annoyed that I can't remember. I bet we had fun.

[ Oh good. That reception was a relief. She didn't know how to handle this, exactly, but she was just doing the best she could. ]

We did. If you ever want to spar sometime, I'd love to be able to practice with you again. ...you know, once I get a bo.

No problem there. I have a spare. I'd be happy to practice with you! [Honestly, it's a wise move for Nami, too.] How good did you get?

Good enough that you didn't hold back when we sparred.

A moment of hesitation, then:] we also worked on combining attacks with the water you could make with your climatec and my bending.

...huh, that's not a bad idea. And I do have the climatact here, even though it took forever.

Oh, it didn't come with you?

[mikangirl]

Nobody's did. Well, unless they were an innate kind of thing, like-- [She gestures at Katara.] In some cases, people just commission new ones, but ... climatact was one of a kind. Getting it back was annoying.

[ Yeah, that sounds like it sucks. ]

What did you have to do?

They told me I could submit an application to retrieve it, so I did. I mean, I didn't expect anything to come of it, but... a few months later, they sent me one piece of my weapon with a note apologising that the rest was held up in "Customs". [Complete with air quotes.]

I had to win the second piece from some stupid anniversary party on the Marsiva months later. And I found the third piece as my "prize" from hunting through a temple on a water planet some months after that.

[She was fury incarnate for a while there. The amount of hours she had to put in to win enough tickets for that second piece was ridiculous.]

...that... sounds... incredibly frustrating. [Her brow furrows.] But at least they eventually gave it back - and all the parts, too, nothing missing? It works?

Yeah, it's all fine. It needed a little recalibration, but nothing that ironing the kinks out in a field test wouldn't fix. That's how I became better friends with Sokka, you know. [Grin.] I posted a warning to avoid an area and he wanted to come see what I was doing.

[She blinks.] He did?

[Katara groans, one hand coming up to her forehead. Sokka, why?]

[She laughs at that reaction.] Relax. He asked first, so I waited for him to arrive and then gave him a safe demonstration.

[She thinks about that for a moment and then lowers her hand to give Nami a smile.]

He must have been so impressed with what you can do with that technology. I bet he asked if he could have one.

He was very impressed! It was nice to have such an audience, honestly.

Good, I'm glad he wasn't too much of a bother.

[A quick smile.] And I'm glad you got it back and that it's working. I wonder why they bothered to keep it from you in the first place if they were only going to give it to you later?

Hmm, honestly? I can think of two reasons. One is a little better than the other: people who come here tend to be volatile. You can't blame them, given what's happened. But some of them are extra volatile, like they're kill everything in sight volatile, and removing weapons as a matter of course limits the amount of damage they can do until that edge wears off.

But they don't remove abilities. They haven't even cut into mine. [Which has been a little disorienting, to be this strong but not to necessarily have enough water around to continue to practice and push herself, but anyway.] I could have ripped all the water out of the plumbing of the ship.

No. It's kind of pointless. Though I wonder if some people do have their abilities taken away, but I don't know of anyone.

...and of course, the second reason is they find it entertaining to watch us scrabble for our belongings.

Anyway, if you'd like to spar again, I'd be up for it. Though you'll probably have an unfair advantage now. [She's not exactly put out by this. It's kind of fascinating that Katara will already know the way she fights.]
