[The Space Bar staff made good use of the ever-replenishing alcohol supply at their last stop, and Nami and Remy got around to discussing the idea of testing various experimental mixes to come up with new additions for the menu.  I mean, add to that Nami hasn't made a decision which one of the applicants should take the main bar job, so clearly the best idea is to shove them all into one place and ply them with alcohol while they talk to each other and work it out after that.

No, it's a good idea.  Shut up.

...okay.  It may just be a good excuse for a party.  Sue her.]

Remy almost dropped the bottle he was putting back, eyes shooting back to Chekov before able to find his voice a moment later, the talk of drinks shoved aside for something much more important.] Ya know 'bout the show?

[Wait. More importantly,] Does Jim?

[Oh, oops. Chekov hadn't meant that to be the shocker that it evidently was.]

I have spent the last four or five years in four different universes, Remy. I know a number of things that are stranger than that.

If he does know, it is not because I told him. [And, offhandedly, as if this was a completely normal topic of conversation:] Your drink is good.

No, no, it's ok, 'nd thanks. [Really, Remy had to be stupid if to think someone from Star Fleet wouldn't figure it out, especially with all the different places that stole people out there. It was just, well... he's 'been' with Kirk for about two years now... and hadn't brought it up.

Maybe it wouldn't be a big deal. If Remy wasn't a huge fanboy of the franchise. If he didn't own every VHS and DVD back home of all the show. If he didn't have collectors packs and signed photos from the cast. Yeah, no, nothing major, not at all...

...and he did feel a little bad at his reaction to Chekov.] Apparently 'm from a comic, or cartoon, [Remembering his arrival at the Fleet here and the reaction from one of their previous Fleetmates.] I actually knew 'bout the comics in Luceti, they had them there. Was me but wasn't, think it kinda like with Kitty 'nd Kurt, not the same as I know from back home. Different dimensions or something.

[It wasn't the kind of thing most people just brought up. Pavel wasn't particularly bothered by the idea that he was a fictional character with televised exploits in some universes, but he was aware that such revelations had the potential to be... existentially unsettling. Even though he was certain Kirk would take it well, he didn't want to be the one to bring it up just in case he was wrong.]

Oh, yes... I knew another version of Kitty in Marina. I have also met other versions of the captain and other people who were presumably from his universe, but from later points in time. And there was Q, who wasn't from any specific point in time. It's very strange.

[Remy's first thoughts to Chekov's reply went along the lines of, 'Oh mon Dieu, William Shatner', before brushing that quickly aside.] It does get a little weird 'round the places, oui, [Before admitting,] But also kinda cool. Get to meet up with heroes ya saw in media that never would realize be real. [Meeting up with Luke Skywalker in Luceti had been amazing. One of the nicest guys Remy had known and another good friend he missed.

Taking a moment to pour himself a shot, Remy held it up for a small toast.] To messed up universes 'nd bein' thrown 'nto a bit ol' meltin' pot together?

It makes me wish that I had committed more time to enjoying media. [He smiled, not really bothered by his lack of pop culture exposure.] Or maybe, someday, I'll meet Prince Myshkin or Alexei Fyodorovich Karamazov or Tatyana Larina.

[Pavel lifted his glass to Remy.] Yes, za vstrechu.

[He... had... no clue who any of those were... but hey! Not a problem at all.] One can only hope, mon ami. [Before taking the shot and putting the glass away to be cleaned, as tempting as it was to keep drinking along with the others. Remy still had a few hours to go on work before he would escape from behind the bar to enjoy the rest of the night.

Mixing drinks would be no good while he was drunk, no doubt he would put too much alcohol into them and anger Nami at using up too much.]

[No judgment here. Pavel didn't expect to run into many other fans of Russian literature written four decades ago.

He finished off his drink and seemed too preoccupied tracing a pattern into the condensation forming on the sides of the glass to request another.]

Are you the one who asked the ca—who asked Jim here tonight?

[Remy smiled a little at the switch from rank to Jim's name.] Yeah, I be. [Leaving that hanging before continuing.]

Am glad ya made it though, were goin' to ask ya if he couldn't make it. Helps to have someone who knows their drinks 'round, 'nd ya sound like a man who knows his stuff with it.

Ah, good. Not that I was worried that no one would invite him, of course. [Because he was Kirk and if Kirk wanted to be at something, he would be. That was just how it went.]

You were? [Pavel was genuinely surprised that he was on Remy's list at all.] I'm glad that I could be here. I hope to help in some way... restocking, maybe. Nami thought that it would be good for me to spend time here before she accepts my help.

[But, now that he knew his company wasn't unwanted, he would make a point of coming by to hang out with Remy. Job or no job.]

Oh yeah? Good idea, see if ya can actually put up with us 'round here. [It was meant jokingly, Remy didn't think they were too bad at the Bar, no one seemed to conflict with the others while working.]

Always nice to have someone else who knows their drink, 'nd which doesn't 'nclude just how to put it in ya face. Do get a range of tastes 'round here, from 'nything that be liquid to actually askin' for a drink by name, or as close as we can get.

I'm confident that I can. [Not joking. Chekov had liked everyone he met so far.]

I know very little about mixed drinks and their names, admittedly... this is why I couldn't volunteer to tend the bar. But I can determine what the nearest Earth counterparts of many alien drinks are, I think, and if they're good. Maybe that will be useful.

I think it be real useful, mon ami, can't go makin' peoples' favorites if we can't match up a base to it. Be fun to try new stuff, but I do like bein' able to go back to m' normal comforts as I need them, 'nd we do get requests for stuff people know from home.

Be real good to have a 'drink translator' 'round here.

Drink translator? I like that job title. It sounds far more important than 'person who carries things back to the ship and occasionally picks out alcohol,' which I think is what Nami was considering.

We'll see if we can get some cards made up for ya with that on them, or a little badge to wear sayin' it. Make sure no one ever mixes them up. [He was joking, mostly.]

Hopefully get 'nother good stop at the next place, put ya talents to work 'nd see what we can find to restock with.

It sounds as though the last stop helped to bolster your supplies. Do you have much that doesn't have that... [a gesture that was probably meant to convey disapproval, but managed to convey nothing] ... taste?

[Absolutely a joke... until Remy found it funny enough to go through with and making one or both options up.]

We still got stuff from previous stops 'nd what we can make with what the Fleet provides. 'nd with how I preserved a bunch of the stuff, we got stocks to last us for 'while with this planet, though do plan to spread that out over the food as well as 'ny drink mixes that work out well tonight.

...You make things with what the Fleet provides? That must take remarkable creativity.

Less so now days, but when I first got here I did mostly. That was before I had 'nough credits to buy what I wanted when I saw it, 'nd figurin' out what planets had what on them. It all be easier with proper products, but still handy to know how to use what we supplied if it ever turns out that, I donno, we can't dock at a planet for awhile, or we get a Tribble 'nvasion or something.
