[The Space Bar staff made good use of the ever-replenishing alcohol supply at their last stop, and Nami and Remy got around to discussing the idea of testing various experimental mixes to come up with new additions for the menu.  I mean, add to that Nami hasn't made a decision which one of the applicants should take the main bar job, so clearly the best idea is to shove them all into one place and ply them with alcohol while they talk to each other and work it out after that.

No, it's a good idea.  Shut up.

It was this giant ugly statue of a guy. Not even that important of a guy! Just bought a town and stuck a statue of himself up in it! He insured that ugly thing for five billion double dollars!

Then this renowned thief named Gasback said he was going to steal from this guy and ruin him. Which, he did, but he didn't steal the statue, he just destroyed it. The worst part of it all? I go blamed for it! Just because I was sight seeing in town! [There to stop Gasback from killing people.] They say I helped him with his master plan! [Because he got himself involved and painted a target on his back.]

Oh, man. I really thought Meryl and Milly were going to turn me in right there to cover the losses, but luckily it was discovered that guy was a criminal who lied about where his money came from to buy the town. So he was arrested and they didn't have to pay out the five billion in the end. [He's hoping that quick retelling will help distract her.]

Double dollars sounds fake. [But she gives him a little smile.]

You're pretty close to Meryl and Milly, right? [She's pretty sure she saw things in his memories.]

Yeah, then you're going to love that we also use c cents.

[He smiles at their mention.] Yeah. I complain about them, but really, they're good friends. [They're the only ones he's been willing to kill for.] No matter what I did to try to leave them behind they were always chasing after me. Even after I got labeled a natural disaster and Bernardelli would no longer cover any claims for damage I caused.

[She likes the way his face changes when he talks about them.] I'm glad you weren't alone there.

Monopoly land? Is there someone from a world that also uses double dollars? [He thought that was something unique to his planet.]

Me too. I hate to be alone. It's worse than only having day old donuts to eat!

Umm...no. Monopoly is the name of a board game back home where you use fake money. I don't know what it's called if it has a name. Probably just monopoly money.

[A nod.]

Yeah, I hate the alone thing too. [And while she's been far from alone this last year she has been lonely. She lost a lot of connection and intimacy when Winn left. A big piece of her life was just ripped away and she's been reluctant to fill it if it can't be just as it was. That reluctance is wavering more and more.] Even more than week old donuts.

What about worse than chocolate chip cookies that turn out to be raisins?

That too. [She really doesn't like being alone. Maybe in a nother world with another life things would have been different. She could have just been social, but she's lost so much.]

It's not a favorite way to be.

I've never understood the people who like the "cool loner" persona.

Maybe it just beats the sad and lonely persona. Important to have a cool jacket and cigarettes. [Which was kind of both of them with his jacket and her old smoking habit.]

I have a pair of really cool sunglasses! [He reaches into one of his pockets and pulls out his trademark glasses with a gold tint to them. He slides them up on his face and waggles his eyebrows.] How's that?

[She looks at him and the glasses appraisingly for a few moments before nodding her head.] I guess you get to be cool. We should get you a certificate of cool.

[goldenglasses]

Aw, come on they're not- wait, really?

[She thinks he's cool!?]

What did you think I said?

Well, I was expecting you to say they don't make me look cool, but you said I get a certificate and you can't take back a certificate! [One that he hasn't even been given in fact!]

I would never take back a certificate. Honor wouldn't allow it. Looking amused.] You really do have your cool moments even despite the hair. [Him shooting at the range was impressive. Some of the things she saw in her memories. Sometimes when he thinks he's alone and no one's watching.]

Pfft? Cool moments. [He scoffs at the suggestion.] I am cool all of the time! [Said as he nearly tips himself off his chair.]

[She reaches out to catch his arm.] Hey, careful. You don't want to be a bar casualty.

That would be a pretty terrible headline, wouldn't it? Vash the Stampede: Humanoid Typhoon! First humanoid to be labeled as a natural disaster! Killed! By a bar stool!

But that would be one rich piece of furniture! AHHHHHH-HAHAHAHHAHA!

Do people really call you that? Humanoid Typhoon? Suddenly Shadowcat is sounding more awesome.

Yeah! They go: [He raises his voice up to just a pitch below shrill level.] Oh no! It's Vash the Stampede! The legendary Humanoid Typhoon! Run away if you want to live! Ahhhhh! How could someone so frightening be so amazingly good looking?! Ahhhhhhh!!!

[One of those things may be a lie.]

That's pretty hard to believe. I mean, maybe not the good looking part, but you're so kind and helpful. [Was that the part he expected her to doubt? But she doesn't really doubt people's ability to fear someone they don't understand. That just feels...familiar.]
